The Odds of Dying from COVID-19

I have no desire to take your civics lessons any more than you wish to take ours. But leadership is leadership...it started and then disappeared. Strangely you mention his powers are limited inside the US borders, so this means he has no powers, since he has none outside the borders. The president has always had great powers around the world through persuasion, economic influence, through leadership powers history has allocated to the Oval Office, all for good reason.

Today, he has lost influence through his treatment of long term allies, his insults, his impulsive reactions, and now he has lost his influence during a crisis inside his own borders. Sad, but well earned status.

Wow! An unbelievable display of either total ignorance or willful naivety. The President (no matter who it is) has virtually sole powers in foreign affairs and virtually zero powers in domestic affairs. It’s very purposefully constructed that way. You really have ZERO idea how any of this works. Please take a class before November.

Obama was not a good Pres and trump had the opportunity to lead, to maga and he abdicated.

Not telling you about your country, just commentary on the failure during this crisis. 175000 and counting,

Horseshit! There may be leaders of other countries who don't like Trump but they sure respect him. He's gotten many NATO countries to pony up while punishing Germany for their reticence to do so. When oil prices plummeted a few months ago he got Russia and Saudi Arabia to lower the supply in order to support the prices and make our oil industry viable. We've been able to supply the world with ventilators only because he took firm action to get them made. He took the lead on a Middle East peace agreement between Israel and the UEA.  Heads of State of other countries cherish a visit to the White House. What about trade agreements in NA and China? How about Mexico placing their troops on both their southern and northern borders to tamp down on illegal immigration to the U.S.? The list goes on and on.

Yes I remember...but he still abdicated, he through up his hands, he took his ball and went home...demonstrating his character. He failed to represent all his citizens, and so far 175000 died. You cannot remove that burden or responsibility from the man in the Oval Office.

Stupid for wasting my energy talking about your Presidents failure to lead...You are right because all you do is blame everyone exceot the man with the responsibility and ability to do something.

It does not matter if China drop a bomb on CA, he cannot say not my problem because CA are democrats.

As for name calling...typical, move on the 8th inning.

Because he CANT force states to close their borders.
all Trumpy has to was suggest it and he was deemed a fascist.
See!!!  He is an authoritarian!
cant win for losing with Dems.
all they do is cry.

there is a reason why 80% of all covid deaths are coming from blue run states. Poor leadership.

Holy crap you got so much wrong here...but you like the orange menace so...

1. Nato countries "ponying up"? Ya nothing new here "But while the military alliance may be energized by Trump’s threats to pull the United States out of NATO, European member states have been contributing more in part as a response to Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, in Ukraine. That same year, NATO members pledged to commit at least 2 percent of their GDP to defense spending by 2024."

2. Russia got crushed by SA and came correct - DT did nothing

3. He "gave" a paltry amount of ventilators to others as an FU to the left and blue states

4. Israel and UAE? Well....if you want to stick another nail in  the Palestinian people - hooray....agreement solved nothing long term

5. Trade agreement with China? LOL! He took 4 steps back and informally took 1 forward. His "war" has cost .3 on the GPD annually, put farmers on welfare, lost trade channels that took decades to build.....so much winning - BTW how are all those Chinese products you bought over the  Trump years?

6. Border apprehensions are double for 2019 over 2018...but 2016-2018 were Obama levels and the 2019 levels were lower than the Bush years...The 2019 flood was largely a result of horrific conditions in SA that  - we as America first...have decided it is not our problem.

The list goes on and on alright....the list of things you "think" DT has accomplished....but really hasn't....

Please read what said, constitution power is limited, influential power, power of persuasion in areas, countries external to the US has always been granted to the great oval office. He has lost that, he has lost that power inside the borders as well. His Art if the Deal died...He walked away, but this was not a real estate deal...this was life and death to citizens the Oval Office has power and responsibility to defend. He failed in leadership when most needed. Yes Pelosi etc caused terrible blocks, BUT he us the leader responsible.

If but some terrible acts Amazon fails...Bezos is responsible no matter how many fingers he could point.

The President is responsible for navigating the minefields, cannot blame the those who put the mines there because if he cannot navigate, he is dead.

It is what happens to those who fail in leadership.

Yes he can punish his friends, who are now less responsive...punish punish...oh the Art of the Deal.

As President trump he had greater responsibility.

Nobody cherishes a visit any longer, those few who come are out of compliance under threats...and you know it.

Reagan was tough, brought down walls, United people and countries with leadership...trump has failed....

No wall, no stopping drugs cartels, Russia is stronger, China is emboldened, North Korea still has missiles, Iran is close to nuclear bombs because his allies  Germany, France etc do not trust him...He lost the influence...on and on. Failure falls to the leader!

What happened to the old The Buck Stops Here.

He is the leader, (the President use to be the Leader if the Free World but this no longer true). He started to take control and then bailed for political reasons. You say NY, NJ CA, I say Florida, Texas, .see, just politics.

170,000 people, and only 58,200 in 10 years of the Vietnam War. You cannot say there has been ,leadership that has been successful.

Can you even imagine Kennedy, Johnson or Nixon issuing a press release criticising New Zealand election process during the war, or Bush during Iraq.

trump has abdicated responsibility and leadership. He has shown lack of moral leadership.

The last I remember NY NJ CA FLA were all part of the USA for which he is responsible for.

It is not time to say  but the governor did this or this mayor did that.

trump was elected top dog. When the responsibility came to his desk, he ran away and blamed others.

I am curious what you think leadership would have looked like? And most importantly would it have made different policies for different regions of out country?

When it is your turn at bat, you have won the clean up position, and you strike out without taking the bat off your shoulders, you can tell your mommy that the fans were mean, that the other coaches hollered mean things, that your team mates were not good enough but you failed. You fought for the chance and then kept the bat on your shoulders. The moment was too big, the desire was too little, the ability was never there...does not matter, step up accept the participation ribbon and recognize when the moment was biggest...you pointed fingers you did not point to the outfield fence and deliver.

trump is not Ruth, Jordan, LeBron, Namath, he is Jamarcus Russell, or if your prefer Aaron Maybin

Reagan in a mixed Congress brought down walls. Nixon cemented co operation with China which let to huge economic benefits, Bush against all odds went to war with Saddam...right or wrong...

trump could not lead, he walked.

He could get his own party on board.

Obama failed even with his own party in charge of Congress.. no leadership there.

Leadership takes consistent respected and respectful positions, not personal opinions,

China was blamed..a little economic reaction then China laughed and Hong Kong happened. Belarus, Ukraine and Putin laughs. Iran get nuclear because he has no relationship with France and Germany...no leadership displayed.

Sorry, this non voter but close neighbor is just making honest commentary over the back fence.

Your stats are a bit all over the place but in general spot on. The really important graph is the one from the CDC showing the deaths by age group. We now KNOW that if you are under 65 you have very very little chance of dying from Covid 19. And, just as importantly, it’s a condition that you get over. It’s not like cancer, heart disease, or other chronic ailments.

I know, or work with 4 different people who have had COVID related deaths in their family.  All were under 65.  We all know that underlying conditions likely contributed to those deaths, but the majority of Americans have those underlying conditions.

Agreed, and also maybe another wake up call to seriously address the T2 diabetes, heart disease and obesity epidemic in this country.  The answer isn't more drugs and surgeries.  People with these chronic conditions are more susceptible to a whole host of infectious diseases.

It would also be interesting to examine covid cases and deaths based on states with red v blue governors.

I linked the facts thread in another post. I doubt you are smart enough to read it though.

Tell me about it. My wife was diagnosed with early stages of diabetes so the medical industry started pumping her full of pills, most of which had significant side effects. She went to an organic holistic doctor who within just six months got her off all but one medication and even that was at a reduced dose. All of her symptoms and vitals have returned to near normal. Modern medicine is a 100% total racket!

By the Time this occurred he had already alienated almost everyone. He had shown a disrespect to states, CDC etc and had lost his time...He could have been honest with the public, protected them on his tv presentations, detailed a safe plan, stuck to it rather than abdicate. He could have disagreed with Florida, Texas, Arizona etc and protected his voters and citizens. Even voicing his displeasure would have been effective. Their plans were flawed.

He could have dropped the dems vs rep issue for the sake of the country and 175000 deaths. He could have brought people together to help protect one another rather than separate. He could have forcefully accepted science.

He could have been consistent. He could have stopped the foolish hydroxie thing. He could have shown love and concern for all citizens.

Instead he played politics. 175000 and counting.

Is this enough...I am sure you will 100% disagree and point fingers at others...but trump shows he is no Reagan  Nixon or Bush.

Thanks for the lack of answer. Your opinion has no basis in fact and your only opinion seems to be " orange man bad". You speak of Florida and Texas as if they are in the same echelon of death as NY and NJ. As for dropping the Dems issue he gave NY more support than any other state and it is not even close. So I ask you one last time and beg you to answer a direct question- what would real leadership look like? But please bring up W again  because it means you are dishonest to your core, I argued with idiots like you about how he was not a Nazi or evil and now you pretend to appreciate his diplomacy?

Did the white supremacists Richard Spencer just endorse Biden because Trump has failed to suppress the black man?

I As for Richard Spencer your right he is insignificant but he was a big deal to the left when he liked Trump before he was president. Secondly I am not interested in your opinion anymore because I asked 4 times a simple straight forward questions and 4 times you called me names like my 10 year old does to her brother when she loses an argument. Lastly i appreciate you wanting me to well, which I assure you my life is great, living near Disney World in a gated neighborhood where my taxes are low but my kids school is better than almost any public school in NY or Canada makes life nice.

You have said nothing intelligent that supports trump. His leadership is a failure...you refuse to consider no matter what I have said.

You hide behind gates to protect your family from the guns and violence he has failed to address. Yes, this environment has been around for a long time, but he has divided the country more and it us worse now,

Actually my entire town is very safe, very little crime and we average about 20 murders a decade and we have a large minority community which is just as safe as I am. It is not minorites that make an areas dangerous but liberals that do.

trump could not lead himself to a brothel. The fantasy for you would have been 17,500 deaths...if he did his job as a leader. Too late for too many.

In a long line of Republican Presidents since WW2....He is by far the worst...Dwight D. /Nixon/Reagan/Bushes were much better leaders.

This guy loves only two things...himself and money.

A total leadership failure...and the supporters cannot see how he is destroying the once #1 country in the world...Obama started the spiral downward, trump has accelerated it.

you think the US should have been limited to 17,500 deaths from Covid?

Again: Can you please explain how many deaths you think the US should have had if someone suited to be president was in office?  0? 17,500? 100,000?

im waiting.

Can you please explain how you can not see how trump has not failed...you only see the other alternative, dems.

Can you not see that he is just not helped the country get thru this pandemic.

Can you not see how he ran to the politics, solution and failed the Oval Office.

Wow,...do not say what would Hilary or Obama done...

Just focus on trump.

dubs..you have been on this site for a long time...asking me to explain is like asking Jauron failed. Marv was a leader, Jauron showed no leadership. Kelly was a leader, Bledsoe was not.

When the game was on the line trump turned to politics not his full citizenship that he was responsible for. He allowed others to stop him, Pelosi, govenors etc, he blamed, not led. He spent his presidential goodwill on insults and bully around the country and world. He has no supporters left...for fucc sake Kelly Ann just bailed.

As I said, Hilly (who was the other choice, not Joe or anyone else) would have been worse because she would have kept the borders open longer.  All the other issues still would have been there.

Wow...at what point does justifying failure of trump stop hiding behind 4 years ago and Hilary....

Dick Jauron beat Belichek once too.... do I need to explain his failures.

I’m honestly trying to put your assessment of failure into context. It’s really a simple question. I’m not looking for a precise number but an estimate. You’re on record blaming every Covid death on Trump. So I’m just wondering how many deaths youd expect if someone of your choosing was president. It’s just hypothetical obviously, but helps put things into context.

You misunderstand.  I'm saying any President would have "failed" given what has transpired.  If Trump weren't President...it would have been Hilly.

You my friend are delirious.... talk is cheap...fact us trump failed his country and citizens...more deaths per capita...for the self appointed #1 nation with the #1 health system that trump failed to listen to.

trump could not lead himself to a brothel.

At this point you can't even form coherent sentences so that's a good indication you've become too emotional and are spending too much energy on this topic.

Then again, if you really believe we'd have had 90% fewer deaths with a different figurehead, maybe you are just that wacked out of your mind.

He answered it above:  17,500.  90% fewer. All Trump had to do was tell people to 'wear masks and stop traveling' and magically:

a) the tens of millions of people who don't trust anything the government says, refuse to stay home or wear masks, would have immediately trusted the government, stayed home and worn masks,  and

b) the tens of millions of people who have gone bat-**** crazy every single day since Trump was elected would have listened, complied and said "Great job Mr President, thank you for saving us!!"

WRONG

Basically everything is wrong except this is statistically incorrect. Many other countries with higher deaths per 100k

It's not some magic ***** bullet, but it really doesn't feel that complicated  though I guess it is when you get down into the details. Broadly speaking what was the point of the States shutting down?(Which apparently they had to do themselves for some ***** reason)

The point of the shutdown was to slow the spread of the virus and this did two things it helped keep it from overwhelming hospitals in the short term and it gave us time. So what do we need time for I mean we could try and hold out for the vaccine but that was going to take a while and shutting down ***** our economy. The other thing we could do was test the ***** out of the virus until we can get a handle on it and get to the point where we can use testing and contact tracing to wrestle the damn thing down.

But we didn't do that we basically held our breath for a while ***** our economy that way and then opened up thinking it was somehow going to be magically better now even though that made no ***** sense.
