PromoTheRobot Posted March 17, 2020 Share Posted March 17, 2020 Let's face it. The Pats are in the mess they are in now, in cap hell with no heir apparent to Brady, thanks to Bob Kraft. Belichick had Jimmy G all ready to step in by now. But Kraft heard Tawmmy's cry and pout and made Bill trade away Jimmy for basically nothing. So the last few years Belichick was being ruled by Brady because Kraft backed Tom, not him. So now, Belichick has a real mess not entirely his own making. So why stick around and tarnish his legacy? Bill could retire to a cushy TV job, or just sail his boat and get laid for the next year. Rather than put up with this crap show, compounded by the Coronavirus. 1st Ammendment NoMas Posted March 17, 2020 Share Posted March 17, 2020 If they end up with Cam Newton and get some WR help, they can still be dangerous. That defense was tough last year, especially on the back end. Losing Collins and Van Noy is a joy for me and hopefully it stings the Pats. Stacked team or not, we are talking about a guy no one ever heard of that they actually drafted despite never seeing the field in college. I mean the man had not started a game since HS. When Brady was suspended, Pats weren't so dangerous, including us blowing them out week 4...because their QB was wack. Yet Brady won the SB that year with that same roster. The stars kind of aligned for them that year to succeed without Brady. But obviously Bill Belichick is a big part of that. Players were going there and playing for huge discounts just to join that organization - so they were still stacked. That's over. And it's easier to get guys pumped up for one year vs hey this is what we are now - a team without a QB. BB's legacy is well established as the best coach in the modern history, if not the total history, of the game. So there is no fear that his legacy will or should be tarnished from now on. There is another aspect to the Brady departure. It gives the unlikeable coach an opportunity to further enhance his legacy by continuing to win without the greatest qb in the modern era of the NFL taking the snaps for his team. I don't understand your description of the franchise being a crap show? How can that be? For the past generation it has been the most successful team in the NFL by far coached by the same coach. BB remains the coach because he wants to be the coach. When he decides that the doesn't want to do it any longer he will be the one to make that decision. The guy stood in rain for a friggin college workout couple weeks somewhere in god forsaken east or middle tenn. He is not going to let Brady dictate his legacy plus he has a great relationship with Kraft and unlikely to leave at this point and throw the franchise into a tizzy...do you think he is a fit for broadcasting or would find that motivating given his surliness, demeanor, personality... Belichick strikes me as the kind of guy who has very few real interests outside of football and will not retire until he's forced to. I also suspect he believes (rightly or wrongly) that TB held the team back last year and that the Pats can do even better in 2020 without him.
