if regular season is all that matters then the inventor of Lamar Jackson whose team was the number one seed in the AFC hands down did the best coaching job.  If post season matters then we will know Sunday night if Reid or Shanahan is coach of the year.

some outlet announced him COTY in early December

it turned out to be their nominee not the official nomination

Not exactly, it was a poll of NFL Execs and McDermott was their choice as "coach of the year".

No one actually read that article thought, they just saw "Coach of the Year" on Twitter and everyone thought it was the NFL Honors award, but it wasn't so THEN everyone assumed it was "fake".  It was neither of those, it was just an opinion from a survey of top NFL Executives.

R.I.F. people

I love McDermott, but if I'm being unbiased...

I'd have to say either Shanahan, who took the 49ers from 4-12 to the Super Bowl in one calendar year, or Matt LaFleur, who won 13 games as a rookie head coach, are more deserving.

Hard to argue againt that, going from 4-12 to the Super Bowl is tremendous.  Only problem with that is hearing Richard Sherman lecturing everyone about it.

I don’t think LeFleur will win

Well, devil in the details and all, but it's only a 2 hr time difference for them....

.....maybe they just got outplayed by a better team?

They got killed by the chargers, definitely not a better team, in a stadium full of packers fans and it was weird. It was like they didn’t even show up.

If I had a vote, I'd go with Harbaugh.

McDermott has (in my opinion) done a very good job with his "process," and we started to see the fruits of it this past season.

However ... a 10-win season with that schedules is on the unimpressive side.  The team was inconsistent for much of the season.

I think he deserves consideration and it's right that he's a finalist.  I'm still glad that he's the coach.

But Harbaugh simply did a better job.  He recognized what he had (and didn't have) in Lamar Jackson and he built a team and an offensive identity around Jackson's skillset.  Ego went out the door.  They were the best team in the regular season and that is primarily because Harbaugh didn't try to make Jackson something that he isn't.
