Hapless Bills Fan
Another Athletic write-up, this one on WR prospects at the Sr Bowl, from Matt Fairburn https://theathletic.com/1560187/2020/01/24/wide-receiver-standouts-at-senior-bowl-show-the-bills-can-be-patient-in-2020-draft/ (subscription, trial available) Spoiler: Fairburn's take in order. Sounds like he's basing it largely off Dane Brugler's board? Michael Pittman Jr., USC 6-foot-4 and 219 pounds, the son of former NFL running back Michael Pittman was a handful for opposing cornerbacks this week. Boosting Pittman Jr.’s value is the fact that he can play special teams. He blocked four punts while at USC and is eager to play that role again in the NFL. Due to his size, some question his speed, but Pittman Jr. said he’ll quiet those concerns Chase Claypool, Notre Dame 6-foot-4 and nearly 230 pounds and plays up to that size. Brugler pointed out that Claypool was showing off “freaky athleticism” during practice this week. (doesnt mention teams) Antonio Gandy-Golden, Liberty “He’s quiet in interview settings, but he plays like an alpha and that’s what matters,” one NFC scout said of Gandy-Golden. “He never played on special teams, so that will make him a tougher sell in the draft room.” Collin Johnson, Texas Unlike a lot of college receivers, Collin Johnson saw a fair amount of press coverage at Texas. He estimated that he saw press on 80 or 90 percent of his snaps. While that may be a bit high, Johnson was challenged at the line of scrimmage. At 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, Johnson has the size to deal with NFL cornerbacks, but the question will be whether he’s quick enough and fast enough to beat that type of coverage in the NFL. Jauan Jennings, Tennessee Jauan Jennings is the type of physical presence currently lacking in the Bills’ receiver room. He led the nation in broken tackles by a receiver and brings value on special teams. Denzel Mims, Baylor

Lurker
Frustrating game so far for evaluating the WRs. Bad O-line play with meh QB play is keeping the WRs on hold. CEN-CAL17
One guy nobody is talking about in Quartney Davis WR Texas A&M. This kid is impressive. I went to the practices. Strong lower body, thicker looking kid, great speed and route runner. Great hands and muscles through defenders to fight for the ball. 6’2 200 lbs. His build is what sets him apart. Had a solid game today too.... he’s in the third round talk, but I think he may be a steal. He’s legit.

I can see why a lot of scouts skip the game after the week of practices. The WRs were almost afterthoughts today and it was really not much of a day to evaluate them. I hope the coaching staff and scouts got a good read on guys they like during the week...

He reminds me of the type of player the Pats used to pick that seemed sort of meh at first, but through smarts, technique and work ethic turned into an effective, 'Doh! Why didn't we draft him?" kind of player. His moves are so silky and refined for a college player (albeit, a 23-year old playing against 18, 19, 20 year olds should have an edge) . Now, with the top speed at the Senior Bowl, he looks even better. He'd have to play special teams at that draft slot, which I don't know if he can, but I want to follow this kid's career, wherever he lands... Jefferson's dad is the "just give it to them" receiver from that 1998 atrocity in New England.
Buffalo Barbarian
Throckmorton looks like crap, was hoping he would be decent but not today. GunnerBill
My biggest take away watching bits of this and all of the Shrine game last week is that this is not a deep defensive draft. Not sure how many guys you are going to find after round 3 who have any chance of making an impact. I think the Bills probably want to take a pass rusher somewhere in their first 3 picks but if I was them I'd be happy to go offense the rest of the way from round 4 on.

Mark Vader
Wide Receivers were unspectacular today, too bad Pittman didn't play. Quartney Davis looked good, but I wasn't floored by him. Although it is true that today's QB play was inconsistent. Man I thought Patterson was bad but the QB from Colorado was atrocious. The DB from Lenoir-Rhyne made a statement today. The DE's or Edge players brought a lot of good pressure today. That was not a touchdown for Gandy-Golden. He Robert Royal'd it.
