Buffalo is 9th in the ESPN Power Rankings, dropping one spot from last week:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27889924/week-8-nfl-power-rankings-1-32-poll-plus-new-goals-every-team

1. New Engkand (7-0)

2. New Orleans (6-1)

3. San Francisco (6-0)

4. Green Bay (6-1)

5. Kansas City (5-2)

6. Baltimore (5-2)

7. Seattle (5-2)

8. Minnesota (5-2)

9. Buffalo (5-1)

"Recalibrated expectation: Make the playoffs

With their current 5-1 record and one of the NFL's easiest remaining schedules, there's no excuse for the Bills not to make the playoffs for the second time in three seasons -- something that hasn't happened since they made back-to-back postseason appearances in 1998 and 1999. They're only one game back of the AFC East-leading Patriots, but overtaking them for what could end up being the conference's No. 1 seed seems less realistic than capturing a wild-card berth. -- Marcel Louis-Jacques"

I have to lean more towards the 9th best than the 5th best after the Dolphins game.  Dolphins were beat up all over the offensive line and the Bills didn’t do enough to take advantage of that. Defense looked very average. Offense looked out of sync for 3 quarters. Time for Daboll to call a good game for 4 quarters and the offense to cut out the  penalties.

The Dolphins game may be just another case of a good team showing a little bit of a letdown and a bad team playing up. This week will be a better test.

Yep, plus the Bills had just come off a bye and were a little complacent and rusty.

that is a ready-made excuse but there are still troubling signs consistent with all the pre-bye games.......1) a rash of penalties, esp. pre-snap; 2) questionable play-calling; 3) inability to connect on the bomb; 4) needing to "flip the switch" late in the game after trailing, aka sleepwalking; 5) untimely drops

IMHO this is not a sustainable model for success. We need to be honest and admit we have been lucky AND good but not in all areas. And for the record, I am a huge JA fan and want him to prosper.

I am the furthest thing from a Debbie Downer, but rather a pragmatist. Let's hope for continued improvement so we don't have to continue to ***** victory from the jaws of defeat. When it was 14-9 and the Fins were driving to almost make it 21-9, I kept thinking how bad I was going to feel Monday morning. I don't want that to happen again.

I guess SF winning with 3 field goals is acceptable

I don't understand the comment here by Marcel Louis-Jacques.

Why is it hard to believe the Bills who should have one that first game vs NE could beat them in the rematch?

Lets say the Bills enter that game with only 1 loss and NE is undefeated and the Bills beat NE so they are both 1 loss teams with each loosing to the other, then what? Possible? Yes.

Respectfully, I can't LOL about it because the Bills' last opponent, up at halftime and down by three before the onsides kick, was 32 the previous week.

Its in NE is probably the main reason he is saying that. Why should the Bills have won? It was a battle of defenses and NE did what it needed to do. What is more likely - Brady plays better or Allen plays better next time?

The Athletic has Bills holding at 11

https://theathletic.com/1311813/2019/10/22/nfl-power-rankings-week-7-nfc-north/

11. Buffalo Bills (5-1; Last week: 11)

Surely that was closer than Bills fans might have liked, but Buffalo holds on to its spot as a wild-card favorite after pulling away from the Dolphins late. What are the chances Josh Allen can (finally) put together a complete game next week against Philadelphia’s ailing secondary?

10 Texans

9 Seahawks

8 Chiefs

7 Colts

6 Ravens

5 Vikings

4 Packers

3 49ers

2 Saints

1 Cheaters

Then, in your scenario, the tie-breakers would apply:

https://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakingprocedures

It would come down most likely to stregth of victory and then strength of schedule then. Playing an identical schedule as Buffalo'ss except for two games, New England would most likely win, as they played, and would have beaten, Kansas City and Houston, whereas Buffalo would have defeated Denver and Tennessee, both with worse records, most likely.

Vikings score a lot of points ( most in the NFC ) and have a QB that is considered good. The Bills don’t  score much , win mostly with defense ( not sexy) and have few stars. They just aren’t going to get a lot of love short of beating the Pats.

Every year, there are games where a good team, loses or struggles to beat a bad team. Sometimes those Good teams that either lost, or almost lost to the bad team win the super bowl, or have a deep playoff run. Think about the 2007 Dallas cowboys who beat us by 1 point, and needed a lot of luck to win that game. They finished 13-3, with the number 1 seed in the NFC. Think about the Patriots 2nd super bowl winning season, who lost to a 6-10 buffalo bills team 31-0. Or the 2011 Patriots, who lost to a 6-10 buffalo bills team, yet they still won the AFC championship. This is really a week to week league. Just win and move on. The dominant games against bad teams will come soon!

Yes and no. That Dallas team that was putting up huge points in most games and won 9 games by double digits. And four by more than 20 pints. Not us yet. And even so, that team went on to lose its first playoff game.

Those NE teams were similar. Yes some close games but also some blowouts. This Bills team has not proven it can blow anyone out yet.

We all want to see the Bills play a game like we saw NE play last night. We are closer to losing to a bad team right now than we are to blowing them out.

Buffalo missed a field goal and they also went for it on 4th instead of kicking a field goal that right there is 6 points and a tied game. Had the cheap shot not happened I do honestly think Allen drives them for a TD and Allen was actually out playing Brady in that game, look at the #.

I get the game is in NE but they are beatable and I think it's possible and not out of the question.

If you told me before the season that we would be 5-1 at the 1/3 point, with a completely rebuilt offense not nearly firing on all cylinders, I would have taken it all day.

What the O is at this time is not what  the O will be at the end of the season.

We are a top 10 team looking at a playoff berth and people are complaining????

    Jeez Louise!!!!!
How bout we bring back Roman and TT?

watching last night's game, do you think NE is that good, or are the Jests that bad?

It's nice to be on the right side of those for once. Great way to make your point, by comparing Sunday's win to several Bills games from the past.
