BRASILIA, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Far-right lawmaker Jair Bolsonaro won Brazil's presidential election on Sunday, riding a wave of frustration over corruption and crime that brought a dramatic swing to the right in the world's fourth-largest democracy.

With 94 percent of ballots counted, Bolsonaro had 56 percent of the votes in the run-off election against left-wing hopeful Fernando Haddad of the Workers Party (PT), who had 44 percent, according to the electoral authority TSE.

"We cannot continue flirting with communism ... We are going to change the destiny of Brazil," Bolsonaro said in an acceptance address in which he vowed to carry out his campaign promises to stamp out corruption after years of leftist rule.

We need to heed these words or else the Democrats will continue to drag us into a similar situation Brazil has faced with the last 15 years.

I think I finally figured it out.

You get rock hard over a guy who says this:

Quote

“Through voting, nothing will change in this country, nothing, absolutely nothing. It will only change, unfortunately, on the day a civil war breaks out here and does the job that the military regime didn’t do. Killing some 30,000, starting with Fernando Henrique Cardoso, we can’t leave him out, no,” Bolsonaro said in a public television interview in 1999. “Innocent people will die, okay, but in every war, innocents die.”

And then you move over to snark at the appearance of two other heads of state.

This is what you like. You a-holes are happy about a guy who has explicitly said that Pinochet should have murdered more people, that democracy is weak and should be replaced.

It is enlightening.

It kind of is!

"Today I learned that the reason why DR, 3rdnlong and Koko seem to say deranged things is because they like fascist dictatorships. That's why democracy, representation of the people and not brutally killing people who disagree with you seems like such a crazy idea to them!"

Whose backers have been responsible for more violent acts and destruction of property over the last 4 years?

Funny...all - ALL - the "democracy doesn't work" rhetoric I hear comes from the left.

Let's recast this.  Their claim is that the historic US representative Democracy doesn't work for them, so let's use fascist means to blow up the system that's worked fairly well for 200+ years in favor of a model that's always resulted in failure.

This reads like a Jim Acosta "Dear Diary" tweet. It's about as factually accurate as a CNN story as well!

Well done. You're a good little NPC.

Time will tell whether your fears about a Bolsonaro regime come true, but isn't he the candidate who was stabbed at a campaign rally a couple months ago, and almost died?  Seems like the violence comes from one side in Brazil, so far.

I don't understand where you get that from my posts, but I do appreciate the company you've thrown me in with.

You know, I seem to notice that...no one who seems offended is disputing that Bolosaro has a record of anti-Democratic principles, advocated that the military murder people, or that he has publically stated that he wants the police killing more people.

No, instead it's just insulting me, and making up some random personal anecdote about how "the left doesn't think democracy works" and "he says something I don't like, let's compare him to a journalist I don't like and therefore he's just a drone"

You can't actually refute me, so you like to stroke yourselves to not feel quite so small.

Were those comments made in light of the shining example that is Brazilian democracy?

I thought after 2003 it was passe for polite society to insist that US hold other countries to its standards?

I don't get the love lefties have for socialist/communist states.  It's a system(s) that rewards very few people.  Odds are most of these same people would be relegated to a hopeless/meaningless existence if in such a state.  Here they can harp about Trump all they want but still hold jobs as teachers, librarians, etc. that allow themselves to be spoiled on expensive coffee, paper thin pizza, etc..  Even if they got a job as a community rat (organizer/manager) the best that they could hope for is some magarine to put on their toast at dinner.

Your NPC programming is such that you can't even be honest about the fights you pick.

Ironic considering how fast you've run from honest discussions about topics in the past. Remember all the ink you spilled in the the Trump/Russia threads? Those were fun... then you ran away, like a coward, when pressed to back up your positions or refute actual evidence shown.

You're TERRIBLE at this.

Yes.  If you want to be a socialist, find like-minded people and start a commune somewhere.  It might work on a small scale where people are of the same mind, but socialism can't be scaled up at all to include the unwilling.

NPCwalkerinPhilly is exactly what I've been talking about. He pops in with a stupid comment, refuses to back up any of his drivel, cries when he's called an idiot for being an idiot, then runs away like a little B word when challenged. He gets no respect, because he hasn't earned any.

Here's some advice: if you want respect, stop acting like a moron, you ***** NPC twit.
