And the point of that is?  Who cares what Tony Dungy thingks?  You think he has any more info than you, me or anyone else?  Trust me, he doesn't.

Since when does Tony know what NE offered him in those meetings?  Since when does Tony know what is best for McDaniels career?  Since when does Tony know what is best for McDaniels family?

You think McDaniels kids give 2 craps what Tony thinks?  Lol

Your opinion is uninformed and you are taking the most ludicrous and holier-than-thou stand I've seen on here for a while.

Bypassing the Rooney rule that way, you would be correct, so long as that language is written in the contract, probably part of the sweetening of his contract, mentioned earlier. Now what is convenient is this happens just right before he is to start HC for the colts, I mean could the Pats organization could have renegotiated his contract anytime, so why did they wait until the last minute?

That I can't answer.  Only one truly knows that is Kraft. My GUESS is BB told him late that his end date was X.. and Kraft wanted a successor in place to keep the organization going like it is. (I feel he is trying to make it like the Steelers where they are always good with few years of truly bad)

No one has to honor a verbal commitment. But most men with honor do. I think it is safe to say, based on all reporting, that there was a verbal commitment made by McDaniels to the Colts. Unfortunately for the Colts(or fortunately), I think it is safe to say, based on all reporting, that McDaniels is a douchebag with very little honor. He was a known to be douchy at Denver, douchy at St. Louis and he comes off as douchy at NE. Douchebagery is not a great quality for a head coach but you can get away with it as an OC. Belichek is a dick but not a douchebag. Big difference in my book. McDaniels as head coach of NE is good for the Bills and can't come soon enough. This will go down as another decision that will lead to the downfall of the Patriot dynasty. I'm confident of it.

Yep. nothing to show he’s  a good HC and Brady will either be gone, on his way out, or suspended for his ARod/Benjamin Button crap that he’s taking

All of this transpired after McDaniels committed to Indy, hired coaches, and then reneged? Seems sudden. After all, it was pretty much known since the regular season ended that McDaniels was going to be hired by the Colts.

i wonder if Belichick staying another year or 2 hinged on Kraft being able to give McDaniels what he wanted.  BB was fairly close to the vest until after the Superbowl, then told Kraft to keep his OC, and he will remain (and likely pass the steering wheel off for 2019 or 2020)... which is what caused the late push

Good questions.

Belicheck had said in several news outlets at the time of the "Patriots rift" article that he would be back.

I got nothing, but I'll speculate like the rest of us.

Suppose BB wants to hang up his cleats after notching one more Superbowl win.  He's keeping it close, but that's one reason he's doing stuff he hasn't before like helping his assistants prep for HC interviews.  Facing the Eagles backup QB, the guy that wasn't good enough for them 3 years ago, he has to feel fairly good about their chances.  One more championship, then he'll leave on top of his game.

Their offense sets records.  Only their defense gets shredded, and it isn't enough.  So they fall short, and Belichick doesn't want to leave on that note.

He's perfectly happy for Patricia to move on to Detroit.  In fact, if Patricia weren't quitting, he might get fired.  The D needs to get fixed, and fixed now.  Belichick wants to give it the lions share of his 2018 attention.  Only there's a problem .... he's also losing his right-hand OC.  So he goes to Kraft and says "make it worth his while to stay, so I can focus on D and bring you the championship you deserved."

If Luck is healthy, he might be better off with the crazy owner. Because he’s probably not going to get Brady while Brady is still worth having.

As many people have been saying, don’t underestimate the power of family in these decisions. I get the honor part, but I hope I always do the best thing for the family. Now, I’d have to figure that out on the front end first........

Lmao, yup.  And I guess yours is so informed lol.  What a weird statement, but all good.

It’s a total pet peeve of mine when people expect players or coaches to bend to the will of the very owners who cast them aside and break their deals the moment they don’t feel they want to honor the contract anymore.

NE made a better offer, that’s the Colts problem not McDaniels.  This has actually been the most enjoyable thread in a while here for me at least. I’m slammed busy and keep getting sucked into it ha.

Doesnt bother me others want to se it differently, but this is actually been a good thread.  Mostly discussable responses even if on different sides and I harbor no ill will even though some want to slander me personally for seeing it differently, but I sure am not gonna change my stance on it because people want to jab at me lmao

But I’m with everyone hating McDaniels, can’t stand him.  Just don’t think making a better choice for his life was something he did wrong.

What’s interesting to me Is when B.B. retires, New England loses a Head Coach AND General Manager correct? New England will have to find a GM who wants McDaniels to be head coach, that might cause limitations to the search, unless McDaniels becomes coach and GM, that’s a lot of confidence in one man. If McDaniels did this for his family I have a feeling he will have plenty of time to spend with them soon.

Wow do a LITTLE research. The Rooney rule does not apply if their is a succession plan in place it is only in search for a new hire.

So what you're saying is that Kraft* would rather pay McDaniels* enough money to make him renege on an employment commitment to a company AND renege on commitments he made to assistant coaches, some of which were already hired by Indy, so the Pats* could avoid hiring a minority head coach?

I can see that. Totally.

You're really gonna die on this hill, alone and in the rain?

He's not the only person with the particular view. He changed his mind and did what was best for his family and himself. That's his prerogative. The contract was not signed. The Colts have every right to be upset. Their irritation is understandable and warranted. But let's not act as if with his change of mind the organization is going to be damaged. In the hiring process the organization puts a list together of good candidates. The Colts have the option of following their list or expanding their search. It's obvious that McDaniels was ambivalent about taking the change. So the Colts are fortunate that he withdraw before even more time went by or even worse hiring a coach who wasn't happy with not only with this coaching job but also with his family situation in this new location.
