Didn't he say the same thing about Jauron?

He loved Jauron.........that's why Marv hired him..........Polian said that had they not hired Dungy in Indianapolis Jauron would have been his next choice.

Pollen liked coaches that he could dictate terms to.

I don't see the correlation with McDermott.......he seems power driven and perhaps a bit disingenuous. :flirt:

Polian liked Marrone and Mcdermott has a similar personality.

I think everyone wants results.

At the same time, the first evidence is there to show this isn't the same old same old. This isn't status quo packaged as new. This isn't Marrone pointing at the lifers 3 years ago and Russ stepping in to protect them. It's the closest to real substantive change there's ever been at OBD.

It's going to be a new regime both in terms of coaching AND in the front office next season. Sure, McD could be unsuccessful. But he won't be unsuccessful because RW cronies were still pulling the strings from behind the scenes. He's the first HC in some time who'll control his own destiny. He wouldn't have taken this job without that assurance.

Great post. There was no chance of any type of culture change as long as Ralph's chumps and losers were still running the team. McD may not end up being the answer, but at least the possibility of turning the team around is finally here. The sky's the limit! Edited by Rico

I think you mean the ceiling is the roof.

Marv motivated the players and the players respected him.

McD is that way. Marv like.

I don't see the similarities really. Marrone was born in the Bronx so he had that New York attitude going for him. McD is from Nebraska and I see him more low key, quite and meticulous, all business. I can see where you may feel there demeanor may have slight similarities but I don't see any semblance of Jauron or Marrone and so far I like what I see in McD, a take charge character.

I haven't seen enough of McD to compare him to anyone yet. I hope he is not levy 2.0 as levy was a good coach sure, not great but good with a flaw that could be a good reason they never won a sb, especially 25 and that was lack of discipline. he let those players run loose, no curfew just let them booze it up and what ever else went along with the two week party train leading up to the big game.

so no, I hope McD is the opposite of levy and shows to be more of a disciplinarian than levy was.

There was only one week the conference championship and SB XXV. That was enough time for the Bills to over-party and lose their edge. Such a sad waste of a golden opportunity.

what he should of done was shut the doors at 10 pm and made it clear no booze and partying like it's 1999.

focus, he certainly didn't preach that to the players or they would of won at least two or even three of those sb's?

McD on the other hand, all business, no play. that may be the difference and could finally get this team back to winning?

so it was only a week back then, memory not what it was.

yes, more than enough time to lose focus. drag really, because the reg season they were kicking ass and taking names.

party on garth

I don't care if he is or not, in fact I LIKE IT! Nice to see someone come in, who has worked in successful franchises, take control and implement a brand new way of doing things and has a clear vision. Let the man have a few years before railing on him about it, it just might work out well.

I don't. People now realize how hard and how huge an accomplishment it was and that it will never be done again. Would I have liked to have won 1-2 yes, but I wouldn't trade one win for the nearly 5 seasons we got to enjoy

I don't understand....you wouldn't take a Superbowl win over the 4 losses? If yes you have to be F&^%*ing kidding me. That is the definition of a loser. If I interpreted incorrectly I apologize.

I'm not sure why fans have doubts at this point. I certainly understand a "prove it" mentality, but it hard not to love the first few months.

There has been a total culture change since he got here. Discipline, hard work, focus - a 180 from the Rex years. He seems to have a real vision, and his first draft was stellar.

Honestly, the guy he reminds me of is Belichick.

The words Honest and Bellicheat should not be in same sentence. I know some would be okay with winning if we needed to steal his director of spying and bribe zebras.

I don't think the winning will happen right away which will deter some already on the bubble fans, this is not a win now team but I feel we'll get our franchise QB next season and hopefully these draft picks we got contribute in a big way this year, The future looks bright though.

Bubbles should be popped; trying to satisfy those type of fans is what causes issues. They will come back changing their Pats* (or whatever) jerseys when we are winning.

What a joke... The 70's and 80's Raiders were known to party as hard or harder than anyone . They won. It didn't and doesn't matter. The Bills got out coached by the Giants and still had a great chance to win in the final minutes, but mismanaged the clock. That's why they lost. It's pretty common knowledge , rewatch Supe XXV if you need to see the evidence.
