If Taylor struggles out of the gate, and they're sitting with only one or two wins, the early bye gives them a chance to switch to Cardale and see what happens (while expecting to finish with a top 5 pick). Obviously I'm speculating, but it's not a bad thought. ANd they very well could draft a QB later that competes for the backup with Cardale.
