Zach Brown visiting Bills

Recommended Posts

I was one of the biggest critics of Rex after year one. He was a joke.

I just think LB is a very overrated position. It's similar to RB. If you have a great line in front of them, it will make average players good and good players great. There are very few elite ones and you pay them.

But imo, a guy with Brown's skill is very replaceable in the draft for much cheaper. And it is really had to get past those awful 200 yard rushing games. Obviously, JMO though.

The Bills currently have only 6 draft picks this year. I don't see how they can fill all the necessary slots with picks. They have to sign FAs and they will have to pay whatever the market determines to do that. In the case of ZB, they know what they've got, which is at least a decent, knowledgeable pro. Makes sense to resign him but if they don't, I'm not going to pull my hair out.

please, remind me to follow this up with you. Right now after rex my mind is blown to what reality is and I just can't see right or wrong with you linebacker view. I wonder what 2017 will do to it

this is the only reason is considered important for bringing brown back

I don't get why so many guys are down about the lb corp starters. hopefully ragland turns out to be a stud but with him, p.brown, z. brown and lorax we have a solid core.

we have a very good front 7 and even if we start seymour across from darby with hyde and poyer we can ...and i believe will, climb several spots on defense.

i think mcdermott and the 4-3 is not gonna be a huge change in scheme and i believ he will get the best out of everybody. i think we can easily be in the 10 to12 range.

people are questioning ragland and lorax skill set as a match to this new system. It might not be a big deal since they are talented, but can't help but be a bit skeptical until we see the finished product

You may be right about the position generally but ZB is a sick athlete. He's a linebacker with a cornerback's agility. Those guys are not dime-a-dozen. I don't love his lack of heart but his skills are rare.

ragland is not a mike in this system and will have to play a role and position he has never played in order to fit in. otherwise he is brandon spikes expected to play a luke keuchly role which covers far too much.

alexander is a pass rushing specialist who was lousy at setting the edge which seldom happens but is important for containment in mcd's d. alexander is also poor at tracking to the ball and fighting traffic. to the laymen that is simply being ray lewis in the backfield and getting through the crowd to make a play. alexander can't do this to save his life and gets lost.

preston brown is not a linebacker for this system in any way shape or form. he is a jack of all trades to a minor degree, that is, he could bring home a C report card for all the things this defense would have a linebacker do if he studied really hard. mcd's defense doesn't need a very dynamic player. he needs a player who can track the ball on a run and cover the middle. he needs what kiko alonso was the first half of the season he was here from brown. brown just can't do that.

zach brown is essentially the best chance we have at will linebacker. he can cover man to man with most guys but that's something you need from a jack linebacker in the 34. he was still not used well in ryan's system. he has no fit in this defense but will be the best wlb we have on the roster if he signed, which is tragic.

the lack of heart is what scares me the most. i would love to know how he and gilmore were in the locker room as a character deposition on a psychological basis.

that preston brown is campaigning so hard for him is interesting to me; that he's the only one, too, is interesting.

my belief is that zach brown is only as good as he wants to be and that's a reason that he has not drawn the interest one would expect. word has to be out on the type of guy he is. i'd be interested to hear from the drunk canadian reporter guy.

That's like the Bills website saying they were still in the mix for someone that visited and left 4 days ago. While technically true because that player has yet to sign elsewhere, they clearly aren't the front runner. They also signed Jenkins about 5 mins after ZB left. Don't think they are likely to land him. Its Buffalo or bust, baby!

Thumbs up

If/when we re-sign ZB i bet our first round pick is OJ, Mike Williams or Cory Davis. Second round CB, third whichever we didnt take in the first

Don't know how true this is but it looks like Brown's original agent priced his client out of the market. Anyone who was going to pay Brown 10m could have had him. Miami probably used the Brown visit as leverage in getting a deal done with Alonso.

Simon Clancy‏ @SiClancy

@mlwilsonpublish @AdamHBeasley Again, Brown wanted close to 10m a year. Which is why he's unsigned & why he changed agents.

According to this, Buffalo is not his preferred destination and would need to overpay to get him

@phinsiderradio

Zach Brown is headed back to Buffalo, but Miami and Oakland remain his preferred destinations, with Miami on top. Will come down to $$.

.@ReadytoWomble tells us that Zach Brown is absolutely drawn to Adam Gase, the weather in Miami, and playing alongside Timmons and Alonso.

It's a 2 two team race. Oak and Miami. Other teams are there but would have to overpay to land him. Oak/miami getting garage sale price

Well said. I. Holding out hope Ragland plays lighter and therefore a bit faster than we expect. On Preston, I've see the irony in his recruitment of Zach - it may be that Zach pushes Preston out of a starting role and (however unlikely at this point) perhaps even off of the roster.

well now i'm on a bummer. i thought we finally got a coach who would design a winning formula based on the talent we have.

Your essentially saying none of the LBs we have fit this defense.

Ay I'll say it again, the Rex hire really offset any success or momentum they gained from that 2014 season.

sorry to burst your bubble. MCD is doomed and his time in Buffalo was numbered as soon as we hired him then inked Taylor and let Gilmore walk. Gilmore, per my source, had a good chance at Carolina had he stayed. The coaches as a whole liked him and he wanted to go home. The market there changed when mcd left and bradberry and worely over achieved at the end of the season. Both ofnthem may be pro bowlers once day

brown is cheap. He won't be off the roster unless he lays an egg.

If they sign ZB and draft some secondary help, this defense might be ok.

isn't that a scary statement? Might be OK. I have said the same thing and it isn't comfortable.

So the Dolphin Fan Insider says he wants to be in Miami while the Bills Fan Insider says he wants to be in Buffalo.

Homer insiders are homers.

The Dolphins insider isn't really an insider- just "reporting" on comments made by his friend that's supposedly close with him and in Miami during the visit. Don't care if he likes Gase, beaches and nose candy, $$$$ talks and he's in Buffalo tomorrow without a contract in hand from Oakland or Miami.

Later ZB. You're not gonna get overpaid here in the B-Lo, especially with only about $14,000,000 in cap space left.

the part about Oakland/Miami getting discount doesn't make sense with the reports that both teams were far apart in money... and I suppose he could be using buffalo for leverage but neither of those teams seemed desperate to get into a bidding war.
