Trump foreign policy

I buy it because that's what I'm told, constantly, by active duty members. It's also backed up by facts. The previous administration's policy was to leave the men and women on the ground exposed -- to both enemy fire and litigation from their own country. The ROE's enforced on the soldiers turned them into lawyers on the battlefield rather than what they're trained/supposed to be doing.

I've heard this from multiple sources as well.  Some of the specifics are pretty gruesome, like ROEs that wouldn't let fire bases respond at all to mortar bombardments.

The ROE's enforced on the soldiers turned them into lawyers on the battlefield rather than what they're trained/supposed to be doing. That cost lives. Worse, the previous (several) administrations left the military vastly unprepared for the two decades worth of endless war we've asked them to perform.

This administration's policies put the soldiers lives first, and they love him for it. It's not a controversial idea, it's just a fact. What happened in terms of the show of force is 100% in line with that policy/philosophy. Turkey endangered our pilots -- so a (non lethal) message was sent to deter that from repeating.

I spoke to a vet today, unrelated to the politics of the day. He volunteered how “amazing” his recent visits to the local VA have been the last couple years.  Quite a change from years past, he said.

Trump reportedly called Jim Mattis the 'world's most overrated general' in a chaotic meeting on Syria

President Donald Trump belittled his former defense secretary, Jim Mattis, by characterizing him as the "world's most overrated general," according to a Washington Post report published Wednesday.

The account from numerous officials came during an afternoon closed door meeting with congressional leaders in the Cabinet Room of the White House on Wednesday. In the meeting, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reportedly brought up dissenting views towards the president's decision to withdraw the vast majority of roughly 1,000 US troops stationed in Syria.

As an Independent, are you ever going to post something that is not on the left side of the spectrum or not critical of Trump?

So, Dear Leader Pelosi tweeted this out? I think that would refer to a meeting scheduled for today. Hmmmn, why does a cancelled meeting even bother her if she's just going to walk out?

I am deeply concerned that the White House has canceled an all-Member classified briefing on the dangerous situation the President has caused in Syria, denying the Congress its right to be informed as it makes decisions about our national security.

If everyone is losing their minds over Syria, just wait until Trump (or another President) finally pulls the plug on Afghanistan.

At least in Syria, you have the Russians, a resilient Syrian government, battle-tested Kurds and a state (Turkey) that can be hurt via sanctions.  In Afghanistan, there will be nobody to stop the inevitable Taliban offensive and obscenely bloody wave of reprisal killings.

• YPG would withdraw 20miles

YPG is an acronym whose translation means People's Protection Units. It is the home grown defense forces of the Kurdish area of Syria

The USA have usually supported the YPG militia in its fight against ISIL, both with air support in combat and with embedded US Special Forces.

The  Kurdish military force would have to withdraw from the Turkey border. Will the Kurdish civilians who have always lived in this 20 mile region be allowed to stay in their homes ?

Germany is pretty much gone now so I say yes let them enjoy their love of globalism and the EU. Korea as well. Trump did his part backing of N.Korea so South Korea should step up and build a better defense.

Japan and Poland I would stay if desired by them. The Polish and Hungarian leaders know which way is up and Japan has been good with us for a long time now.

Yes....we should! It’s the 21st Century. We can be back there in hours if we need to be. All of this is just legacy of wars gone by long ago and a private contractor machine that has an ever hungry customer base called the US military.

Consistency does NOT mean comparing strategic bases that have been in place for a half a century with a few hundred troops on the Syrian border.

But no one expects any better from you.
