What player(s) changes for bills to be strong playoff team!

Recommended Posts

Should the owners decide to keep Rex Ryan and his staff as I see his being fired the best change the team could make for the better...if not, then yeah, change some players.

This team is built on the predication that the run game must work and work very effectively to have both the defense and offense work. It is a very one-dimensional offense and the key components to making that offense work with utmost efficiency is to build a great offensive line like the Cowboys have and find a dominate younger running back that isn't sitting out injured every year.

Tyrod Taylor at QB should be just fine long term should he continue to play and develop like he did against Seattle. There are a few teams around the league that are attempting to go forward with a power run first offense and some are successful and some are not for various reasons.

The Cowboys have it all with the very best offensive line in the league and are winning because they can protect that rookie QB. They also have the leading rusher in the league and the 18th ranked QB who is winning games because he isn't being asked to carry the offense with his arm every game.

The LA Rams have the superstar RB but not an effective offensive line or QB who can challenge defenses with the pass or with the run like Tyrod / Russell Wilson can. Speaking of Wilson, he looks like he turned the corner this season in being able to carry the team with his arm despite a bad offensive line and no star RB's that can carry the offense.

Right Tackle

Center

Find another superstar running back like Shady

WR's that are great at receiving and run blocking- Trade Watkins

TE's that are good at both receiving and catching-Trade Clay

And if the team keeps Ryan & Co the defense will need a premier safety and two CB's who can play in man coverage all game. What good is Dareus if he decides to pick up another blunt! Find a way to trade the guy!

the one position that has let Bills down for many years is the QB. Bills need an Elite Qb. A QB that can pass the ball effectively, make smart decisions in the pocket, a quick release of Football.

All Tyrod Taylor does is rely on his legs way too much. He is NOT a true pocket passer.!!!!!

His running is a strong attribute and makes him very dangerous, But, it's not that he's not a pocket passer; it's that his accuracy is WAY off the mark. Too many throws that put our receivers in jeopardy or with zero ability to gain yards after the catch. That's his biggest negative. I actually like his running and they should design more run plays. It throws off the defense. But, have to still be able to make the short, medium and long throws accurately when not running.

Great who's the elite QB you're going to get with around the 15th overall pick. Even with the #1 overall, there's a better chance of not getting the elite guy. There's a much better chance of getting the next Ryan Leaf than there is of getting the next Peyton Manning. Rams took Goff over Wentz, so far looking a bit shaky there too.

All these people constantly writing about blaming Whaley for not finding a QB makes it sound like Buffalo is the only team in the league without a QB and they are easy to find.

There is an option clause in Tyrod Taylors contract for 2017. draft a Elite QB. Stop settling for second hand garbage that has been the major problem bills have had for years.........

How about Dak Prescott?

He seems to be getting the job done for Dallas.

He played at Mississippi State and was selected in the 4th round of the draft.

Where were all the geniuses around here saying "draft Prescott in the 4th round" last year?

These guys are out there but you have to have a clue and a dedicated commitment to takings QBs in the 4th round ALL THE TIME until you really nail it.

Who should we go get? Who knows! That's not my job...that's Whaley's.

Didnt we draft a QB in the 4th round?

Yes but realistically the chances of you selecting the correct guy aren't much less than Whaley's and that's not in any way a knock on Whaley, it's reality

Agree Dak Prescott worked out great. As was pointed out we also took a QB in the 4th round, just not the right one. Can blame Whaley for that if you want, but 31other teams also passed on him multiple times. Outside of NE, Green Bay, and Indy, every other team in the league should have jumped on him knowing he'd be great. And if Dallas was so smart and knew he was going to do this great they would drafted him much earlier.

We could fire Whaley for that move as many here wish and then hire some brain child from some other team, who likely was involved in that teams decision to pass on Prescott too.

It's just laughable all these comments that we need to find an elite QB. Like it's a simple as on draft night Whaley will proclaim he is drafting an elite QB and that resolves it. Either Whaley or his successor can decide to cut Taylor and draft that elite QB that everyone wants, but the reality based on history is we have a much better chance at selecting someone even worse than Taylor than better, regardless of what round he's selected in. That's life in the NFL!

That's six teams out of 30. So are you telling me these teams all knew when they selected the current guy, he was really the answer. So when Oakland selected J Russell, they knew he'd suck but they just picked him anyway. Cinny has selected so many QB's in the past 20 years or so many very high draft picks, lost track. Do you honestly believe if any of those teams had known the guy they got was going to be even half as good as he turned out, they would have waited until they did to select him.

What I'd tell those teams is they got lucky. The only one of them that actually can argue really put some thought into it was New Orleans in that they traded for the guy, the rest were just dumb luck

Tell that to Dallas, Seattle, New England, Cincinnatti, Oakland and New Orleans. You need to Identify the right QB. None of these QB's are first rounders and everyone had a shot at them. Some teams passed multiple times.

I say we go all in on offense and just take our lumps on defense. Stack the O with great players and score a lot of points. You can give Rex 22 All Pro defenders and he will screw it up.

It could work. Billick was supposedly an offensive uber mind but his team won with defense. The reverse has been true to a degree with Bellichick.

The real answer is to get a real coach, which is something we haven't had in a long long time. Juan was actually the closest thing we've had to one but he was missing that fire. Fire is about all Rex has except in spurts. his teams look fantastic for brief periods then get beaten by better plans. It has been happening for years.

You gave Rex a third round rookie, Kyle Williams (beast), Corbin Bryant, two one year, one million dollar linebackers, a former third round pick who had largely unimpressed and Jerry Hughes (beast) as your front seven and a secondary that has absolutely sucked and they are ranked 14th overall, 13th in points allowed and first in sacks. In fact, when he did have All Pro defenders, his defenses were very much elite. So, like, what the hell are you talking about?

And I don't disagree with you on stacking the offense going into next season. But Rex's defense has outperformed its expectations/perceived talent this season.

GILMORE - improve

DARBY- improve

DAREUS - play

TYROD - maintain/improve

SHADY - avoid injury

Good post. Adding Watkins to that list obviously. But that works for me. Sprinkle a first round beast of a receiver in there and they're good right now. Edited by metzelaars_lives

We actually gave Rex our first 3 picks, 90% of our FA signings, and 2 top 10 CB's and he still hasn't put out a good defense.

He has also overseen a locker room in which star players feel free to mutiny, play at half speed, or just get fat, for two seasons now.

Remember Whaley wants to Fix EJ Manuel! He had a hand in drafting this clueless wonder!
