Was just on ESPN saying that the offense bounced back last night and it is really the defense :doh: . What ! a defensive TD and two bombs doesn't make a good offense. the D is bad but the O is worse.

They are firing up the fire rex narrative. They were waiting for this moment. Now they can write and talk about every single move Rex makes in anticipation of it being related to him getting fired. And they will make money off of it. That's why they love Rex.

Here is the truth about the game last night:

1. Defense was bad. To be fair, it was missing its most talented player and 3 other expected week 1 starters. It was also facing a ton of pressure having to be on the field for a ridiculous amounts of time because the offense left the field quickly in the first half from either quick score or a unsustained drives. At the same time, the scheme itself looked bad, I mean it was like the safeties were ghosts out there. Hard to say how much of that had to do from the missing personnel and getting wore out never getting off the field, but overall, the secondary was torn apart and was frequently in bad position.

2. Offense was more bad than good. Offense had a few bright spots, and we got a couple scores in those few bright spots. However, overall, the play calling was utterly atrocious, the effort from some of the guys TT threw too was piss poor (Clay I am still furious over that 3rd down where you ran your route straight out of bounds and didn't even look for the ball TT threw right into your butt that you should have caught for a first), and TT more often than not looked uncomfortable and didn't see multiple opportunities or flat our missed them.

The team did battle back, but that battle back was more built around a couple of big plays rather than a consistent team making plays.

Overall, I havent been that disgusted with an OC since that POS Hacket was here. I mean throwing bombs on 3rd and 1 or getting too cute on 3rd and 1 all game long is how you lose football games and put even more pressure on your D. His run schemes are terrible too and he has no clue how to get the most out of McCoy. Any OC who isn't getting a min of 10 attempts to Sammy and 10 to Clay every game shouldn't be coaching as those are our only 2 real receiving weapons. Woods is a 3rd string WR at best who never seems to keep his feet. Goodwin is a deep threat specialist with the talent to be more but the body who can't be more because he can't take the hits. So if you aren't throwing 10 times a game to Clay and Sammy then you need your head examined as an OC. Not to mention, Roman seems to have no idea how to actually run plays for those guys when he does.

I gave Roman credit last year, but man he has been bad this year. All the things he did last year that irked me have become the norm this year. At least last year, there were a lot of other positives to over shadow the dumb calls.

PS: This team misses Karlos Williams...a lot. McCoy is NOT a power back. Hopefully Williams can come in and fill some of those shoes.

The defense had more than enough opportunity to get off the field. The Jets were over 70% on third downs, and converted many 3rd and longs. The defense's problem was the cover 1 that Rex stupidly believed the Bills CBs could handle. Fitzgerald was throwing into tight coverage, and the DBs couldn't make the plays.

You would think after the first half, Rex and Rob would figure this out, but the Bills stayed in cover 1 or man 2 for most of the rest of the game.

The Bills defense lost that game on 3rd down last night, playing schemes that their secondary personnel couldn't handle.

I can't blame one side more than the other. Ignoring the kneel down at the end of the half, the defense forced one fumble and two punts. Other than that, every single drive produced points. Time of possession is going to impact that a bit, but that is a very consistent lack of results from the D drive after drive.

Agree. That Power back was def missing. I thought J Will could take over for Karlos but hes injured. Also Sammy was visibly injured out there. I dont think he woulda been able to make 100 recs last nite.

Just a point, Alphadawg, it *was* on them not to get off the field on the two long drives in the 1st quarter, right? I mean, the Jets received kickoff, so if the D was on the field almost 9 minutes that first drive, it's totally on them to get their own butts off, right? And if the O gets off the field 'cuz they score immediately - same deal, get your own butt off the field, we just scored! The Bills D during the K-Gun years would laugh at them!

Yo about the defense being on the field for a "ridiculous" amount of time. Would they not be on the field for a "ridiculous" amount of time if they actually did their job and didn't allow the Jets to march at will all the way down the field? I am sick and tired of people using Defensive failure as an excuse for their own failure.

Blaming the CB's for last night is wrong. The lack of pressure on Fitz was incredible. He was taking deep drops on almost every play, giving his receivers time to make multiple moves and get open. There's coverage sacks, and there's protection completions, which is what we saw last night. In a scheme that's not playing safety help that is completely unacceptable and the lack of adjustments when it clearly wasn't working should have resulted in some defensive staff firings, if not executions.

Our local Cbus radio show talked about what a great game it was, so exciting, Tyrod was "very good", Rex didn't "have his guys" on D but they battled back etc.

Oh

:lol::lol:

It's like debating whether the garbage truck or the dumpster stinks more.

he thought the offense smelled like roses

There was no need to insult idiots like that, BB. No need at all.

:worthy::thumbsup:

Rodak did say the Bills could be 0-4 before the season started. So far he is correct.

has to be right once in awhile

It's not only them. It is every media person, including gameday announcers. I expect this too be mentioned with each and every Bills gameday announcers. Sunday AM sport talk shows, everyone. Unless it is just a local broadcast with say Tasker and company. I think this is do too Rex's personality One guy even mentioned Rex's "winning the offseason", and in particular his comments the day he was hired. They are eating this up. Lets face it Rex does not come off as a humble man.

That's the type of blowback you can expect when you talk big and don't deliver. I don't think it's even any kind of major media dislike for Rex. He craves media attention, and the bad comes with the good (which for rex is rare). Unless there is a major comeback this season expect more of the same. And the firing talk will only increase. deserved or not. Past that I expect virtually zero coverage on anything else Bills aside from Fantasy stats. The team is completely irrelevant and it happened after game 2.

I would rather have the team go on a 6 game win streak. Then have these talking heads say things like " hard to believe Rex was coaching for his job just a month ago" Even though I doubt he is today.
