Kaepernick and the National Anthem

Recommended Posts

Sevyn Streeter, the performing artist who claimed Wednesday that the Sixers replaced her for the national anthem because of her intent to wear a jersey with the words "We Matter," signed a contract that prohibited political statements, according to CBS3's Jan Carabeo.

Per the report, Streeter was offered an alternate shirt and told she could wear her own shirt in the stands after the performance.

But, she's sooooo mad...........Publicity stunt.

There are many reasons why the NFL's ratings are down in 2016. You may be dismissive of the very idea that the backlash to the national anthem protests, sparked by the 49'ers Colin Kaepernick, has played a role in the NFL's TV ratings, which have dropped by about 12 percent year-over-year. To continue to dismiss that is to blatantly ignore legitimate data on the subject.

South Orange, NJ, October 27, 2016 — Viewership for NFL games is down approximately 12% this season, sending league and club officials in search of reasons. A Seton Hall Sports Poll conducted this week asked people to identify factors accounting for the drop.

Each question was asked separately, allowing for a yes, no or don’t know response. Thus, respondents could weigh in on each of the seven possibilities as a contributing factor without identifying one single factor.

[...]

A total of 841 adults across the US (on landlines and cellphones) participated in the poll, which has a margin of error of +/- 3.4%. The poll was conducted October 24-26.

Notably absent from the questions: "Do you watch football?"

I mean, really...That is the shittiest poll I have ever seen. You ask 841 random people "Why do you think other people have stopped watching football?" and think you're getting anything resembling a valid result from that? You can't be bothered to design a poll that asks people "Why have YOU stopped watching football?" or "Has your interest in football decreased, and if so, why?"

7 teams have won 2 of fewer games and not to the surprise of many of their fans. They stopped watching. Supporting a loser is too time consuming.

Or

A not politically correct answer.....The changing demographics of America. Football not as popular among some ethnic groups.

As good a place as any for this because there was a lengthy discussion about voter ID laws.

Spend 4 minutes and watch this incredibly telling video...then save it for the next time someone tries to tell you that voter ID laws are meant to suppress black turnout.

Oh those open minded Berkeley liberals. Yup and we conservatives are the racist ones.

I did a career fair at Berkeley when I first moved up here. Every year they ask me to come back. No effing way I'm setting foot on that campus again.

Republicans hate it when people vote. Despite what the people over at Fox So-Called News say, this really is a center-left nation, and when lots of people vote, it hurts Republican candidates. As Paul Weyrich, the co-founder of ALEC said in 1980 when he was helping run the Reagan campaign, Republican chances in elections go up as the number of people turning out to vote goes down:

“I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people. They never have been from the beginning of our country, and they are not now. As a matter of fact our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down." Flash-forward to today and it’s clear that Republicans have listened closely to what Paul Weyrich was talking about way back in 1980.

At the behest of ALEC - the group Paul Weyrich founded - GOP-controlled states all across the nation have, over the past few years, put into place harsh new laws requiring people to have government-issued IDs in order to vote. Republicans say these voter ID laws protect against “voter fraud,” but really they’re only there for one reason and one reason alone: to keep people - mostly minorities and other Democratic-leaning groups - away from the polls.

I can't speak for republicans, but speaking for myself I like as many people to be involved in the process as possible. I just like them to be legal citizens, be alive, and only vote once per election.

26cornerbitch at it again. Drops a link off. Runs away.

Address voter fraud? Record number of issues being reported this year... Comments? Yeah, that was funny when you won't stand behind your ****. You're full of **** and need to avoid political commentary whn all you do is kitty out or stir **** getting Beerball to go apeshit because he was as bias and ridiculous as you in his attack. You stirred ****. Ignited and instigated arguments that were unfairly disciplined by Beerball going all rampaging crusade to protect you liberal retards. You got at least 3 members permabanned responding to your political posts with their own reply and many others banned, too. And damn good posters who can do more than hit "ctrl v" with actual viewpoints

Ignorance. Get your ass back here, kitty. Stand behind your words and the can of worms you opened. You're a joke and a coward. Beerball is gone and I miss him, John is still a great man. We just need you gone, too.

Profiles in Courage....................

Colin Kaepernick a hypocrite as he ends national anthem protest now that he needs a new job

Just in time to chase one more big NFL paycheck, Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest is done.

So much for the cause he once called "bigger than football," and so much for the anger he once had toward a flag that "oppresses black people and people of color." On Thursday morning, according to ESPN, Kaepernick, who spent an entire season either sitting or kneeling during the national anthem, no longer planned to protest, and was done being a polarizing figure in the ongoing national struggle against police brutality and racial injustice.

"Kaepernick no longer wants the past method of protest to detract from the positive change that he believes has been created, per sources," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote.
