Here are mine: Terrell Owens, Drew Pearson, Rickey Watters, Kenny Easley, Jerry Kramer, Ken Anderson, Roger Craig, Steve Atwater, Robert Brazille, Dexter Manley. KDIGGZ Posted August 5, 2016 Share Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Steve Tasker was so good on special teams that they had to invent a new position for him. I don't remember before then anyone making a team strictly for special teams. Now every team has at least a couple of special teams specialists and it's a category of player in the Pro Bowl because of him. Prickly Pete Posted August 5, 2016 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Is there some kind of time limit for a player to become ineligible, or at least not have a snowball's chance in hell of getting in to the HoF? I'm looking forward to that day as it pertains to Steve Tasker. The arguments have already been laid out (like 2 or 3 threads every year), and thankfully, despite his fairly consistent exposure nationally as an announcer/NFL personality (a big help in gaining votes), he remains on the outside. Terrell Davis, Ricky Waters, Steve Atwater, Steve Tasker, Jonn Lynch, Roger Craig, Alan Faneca, and Randall Cunningham. Thats 11, but I coudlnt even leave one of them off this list let alone the HOF. Every single one of those guys absolutely deserves the Hall. Several of those players not only had great careers but also revolutionized their respective positions like Craig and Cunningham. Others were one of the absolute best to play the position during their era like Ty Law. Couple guys had bad attitudes and reps for being bad in the locker room (T.O. and Waters), however their career stats and success at their positions on the field are more than worthy of the HOF. Few guys struggle to get in because of the positions they played like the safeties in Atwater and Lynch where being an enforcer and game changer doesn't always show on the stat sheet like big play DB's who have tons of INT's. Just like how Steve Taskers impact isn't filling those exciting and popular stat sections, yet was such a valuable player and dominated what he did better than anyone IMO. Or Faneca who already plays on a less sexy unit, the O-Line, furthering by playing at the position that gets even less attention than OT's do. Yet he dominated the position for his whole career. Others get hit on longevity, like Warner and Davis...yet Warner holds many passing records, in fact he not only holds many SB passing records, in many cases he is 1, 2, and 3 on the list from the 3 SB's he played in. One of the best post season QB's to ever play the game, this guy should have been a 1st ballot HOFer IMO. Davis too...his career wasn't as short as other HOF RB's like D. Walker or Sayers, yet they are in and he is not even though his career was better than theirs in terms of totals, dominance and consistency. In fairness, while I get what you said, that just can't really be the metric used. A position is only going to be changed so many times. Roger Craig changed the game being the first player ever to 1000 yards rushing and 1000 yards receiving. How does another RB change the position after that? People say Marshall Faulk changed the position...no he didn't, he just did his best Roger Craig impression. A lot of people who get credited for changing the position never really "changed" the position as much as they get credit for. After Roger Craig, people went out to find RB's like him. Cunningham wasn't the first QB to run, but he did it in a way that changed the perception of a dual threat QB and the demand for them and also those who wanted to play like him. The HOF is for players who was one of the best to play the position in their Era, not just guys who make you think differently about what you want from the position. Martin wasn't the flashiest, but he was definitely one of the best and most consistent of his era and his resume is HOF worthy IMO.
