overrated. gave up as much as he took away

That's how he ended his career (the last couple seasons or so), but it sure wasn't what his game was about during his peak. He was absolutely a game changer. Even the injury knock is a little hollow. He played recklessly - and fast. That's going to take its toll. I expect him to make it to Canton.

Incidentally, I heard that the Steelers were pushing him to retire so they wouldn't have to cut him. That's strictly a PR thing. It does increase the possibility of him un-retiring in a few months, however. That'd probably mean following Lebeau to TEN. He isn't nearly the player he was, but he could certainly find a role on an NFL roster.

That's inevitable when a player has been as great as Troy his whole career, it is more noticeable when play will drop off at the end. At least he realized it and didn't go sign with another team to keep playing. Imo can't imagine how anyone could think he was overrated for his career.

Apparently the Steelers wanted him to retire; they didn't want to cut him if they didn't have to. They carried his cap hit this whole time while he made his decision. Respect.
