Sweetest words I've heard out of Training Camp

On what he thought of the first day in shoulder pads:

I thought the defense dominated the practice. We have a lot of work to do on offense to be at their level of play right now. It is a little bit different than it has been and it is good for our football team. They have some good players (on that side of the ball). They work hard, they play hard, they are good leaders; it is a solid group up there.

Oh, Yeah.

I really hope this year is not another year where on one side of the ball we are good and the other holds us back like has so often been the case.

I was there today and the starting D-line is no joke!! Never once was there a pocket on any passing play they (the 1's) were in on. Never once did a back get significant daylight either. If it wasn't MArio disrupting things, it was Marcel. If it wasn't Marcel, it was Kyle. If it wasn't Kyle, it was Anderson. ALL of hem had would-be sacks and stuffs.

His word choice is interesting...they, up there, their level of play... we have catching up to do...

can we read into his administration of the team or just where his mind is right now? Is there a hint of, "man I wish I had me one of THOSE guys on offense!"?

Now when she said she likes me, did she mean she likes me or LIKES me?

Me thinks you may be reading too much into it

I played football for a long time and never have I not seen a defense dominate the first practices... they have much less to incorporate, sure the defenses get more complex and schemes are more advanced but its still knowing your responsibility - pin your ears back and go..move and react. The offense has to become in sync, get there timing down, know what the man next to him is doing, get the cadence down, and the playbook has much more to incorporate.

It shouldn't be, it all depends on injuries I think. That was #1 D going against #2 Center and ?#2 or #3 RT? There were still completions and some decent runs...enough?

If Wood and Pears are back and play up to their level last year, we'll be fine. If the backups improve, we'll be fine. If neither happens, well....it sheds some additional light on the last half of the season, doesn't it? I give our FO points for trying to address the OL with drafting, FA etc. but no team can improve if injuries drain the talent faster than we can build talent up.

I would expect our D-Lne to pretty much dominate every game...I mean we have an All-Pro player(Mario), 2 Pro-Bowl quality players(Dareus and KW), and one of the best pass rush specialists in the league(Anderson). Then we rotate in former starters Kelsay, Merriman, Edwards and Johnson along with Troup and Carrington. That is just freaking ridiculous.

Teams literally may need to max protect on virtually every pass play to avoid getting their QB killed, as Mario, Kyle and Marcel all require double teams to effectively block them in most cases. That is 6 players to block them, plus another for Anderson/Kelsay, taking 7 players up front to block our 4. Throw in blitzes and we are going to be seeing a lot of quick hitting passes, screens, draws and 2 & 3 receiver routes this year...

+1

If I remember correctly, the Bills DL was dominating at the start of last year's camp as well. Everyone was wondering if it was because they were good or because the OL was bad.

Oh, Yeah.

Meaning: We have a dominating D but an average O. Just as I expected.
