  1. Years ago a notice was always given by a few individuals here when a meteor shower would occur. So here it is. I believe Pete was one of the posters who would give notice. Yes it is not football news but of interest to some. It is also perfectly clear in CNY. Tonight is the peak. Best time supposedly from Midnight to Dawn in the Northeast Sky.
  2. I have never listened to Steeleye Span but I just checked out the Wikipedia on them and your may be right that I would like them. I will have to give them a listen. One of the odd things about my list is two of the albums were purchased without having ever heard the group before. I had a copy of Rolling Stone that I was reading in the "Library" when I came to a full page add about Liege and Lief. So I went out and bought it. Loved it. Soon after I bought the other Fairport Albums with Sandy Denny on them. Love them all. The other album was purchased at Twin Fair as a cutout. It was a good place to get albums cheap and I kept seeing this album with a cover of a guy on a horse. After seeing it enough times, I thought I should try it. Really struck gold with that one. It was Then Played On by Fleetwood Mac. Don't know how it happened that I had never heard a song by them before that, but there was a lot of music coming out at the time. They never made it big on US radio. That Moby Grape album is great collection of songs plus the fact the guitars play against each other so well. Guess it takes more than just talent to make it big. Forever Changes easily makes my top 10.
  3. Interesting choice in albums. I think our tastes overlap. I had both of these albums. At the time Sweetheart of the Rodeo was a bit of a disappointment. I loved the Byrd sound especially on the Gene Clark compositions. However, I did like it enough to get the Burrito album. So the only one missing is Poco and as a Richie Furay fan from his Buffalo Springfield Days, I have Picken up the Pieces also.
  4. It is always difficult to narrow down a list of anything to 5, and to choose how to determine "favorite." Favorite all time? Favorite now? I was going to start a thread where you had to list your albums in lifetime order of number of plays. That would be a bit different that what I list here. But if I want to listen to something now, I guess it would be because it is my favorite. Fleetwood Mac - Then Played On The first incarnation of Fleedwood Mac, better than the second IMO Moby Grape - Moby Grape A group which should have been big but they released 3 singles at the same time which confused Radio stations on what to play The Kinks - Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) Many good Kinks albums around this time, difficult even to pick my favorite but Ray is always a great listen, The Strawbs - Acoustic Gold Really sort of an acoustic greatest hits but these were not really hits commercially, just very good songs. Fairport Convention - Liege and Lief English folk rock, always loved this group especially with Sandy Denny Albums don't seem to be a strong song wise as they used to be, but I always wonder if that is just because I don't commit to playing them enough to get hooked on them. And all these seem to be based on my listening during my early 20's.
  5. It isn't a very long video, but watch these guys tackle. I don't see any leading with their head. I believe this is also pre-headslap for the Defensive lineman. Jacobs' intelligence was part of what made the D so good back then. For those of you who might remember that Jacobs' was one of the individuals who were on Point After during the late 60's. The show was on channel 68? and consisted of Jacobs, Stratton and Paul McGuire, typically around 10PM Sunday night, after the game. I believe it is where McGuire got his start in broadcasting. It was a good show but the Bills were terrible, worse than they have been over the last 20 years, maybe the worse of all time. So there wasn't much positive to talk about. One of the best lines I remember, I think it was Stratton who said it, was "it used to be 4 yards a carry and a cloud of dust, now it is two yards and a cloud of excuses."
  6. If Ralph never threatened, they would still be playing in the Rockpile. And Kelly should be thanked for going to the USFL. If he would have signed with the Bills they would have been mediocre for his entire career. A few more years of sucking allowed them to gain the needed talent for those super bowl runs.
  7. I was just thinking how if it the article gave the height in "story's" how it paints a much different picture and then your comment defined it. Although I thought the rule of measure is 10 Ft per story.
  8. Thanks for the Sid and Imogene link. They were the king and queen of comedy during the 50's. A bit dated now but they were cutting edge at the time.
  9. For some reason a couple of other 50 shows have come to mind. Sgt. Bilko and The Life of Riley. And then there was George Burns and Gracie Allen. That show is timeless.
  10. 69 hours! Make sure you get up and walk every couple of hours. I am guessing it is not as hard to do on a train as it is on a plane, but it is good practice to stretch those legs.
  11. Good story. I had never heard of this before. Surprised it is not a movie.
  12. You forgot Princess SummerFallWinderSpring. I had the hots for her. The earliest show I can remember was Romper Room. They had a nice looking lady hosting that show, at least that is what I remember.
  13. Or, how about driving.
  14. I have never had a pina coladas. But the pina coladas Jelly Bellies are pretty good.
  15. My wife is 6 years younger. Doesn't mean much until you retire. She doesn't work, so when you retire and start doing Medicaid, things become a hassle. I don't believe in not having insurance, so there is a gap until she reaches the Medicaid age.
  16. Are they close relatives in terms of relationships? If not now maybe in the past? That is an awful long time to "just drop in." What is it that they have to come and stay for week for?
  17. I make lists all of the time, in my head. Unfortunately, I misplace them.
  18. What ever happened to root beers brother, birch beer? Something I haven't thought about in 50 years.
  19. I didn't think they let grown ups on the play equipment. What did you eat that caused your problem,?
  20. 4 minutes and 41 seconds. Most have cost a fortune to run. I thought it was a production of the times, especially the singing. And I don't recall it at all.
  21. I was looking for something new to try while in Walmart and bought a bag of Hi-Chews. Very addicting. When I can get them, I like Wine Gums, but there are so many companies that make them and there is only one brand I like. That addiction came while I was working in Sweden. I think the Wine Gums there were imported from England. I know I have found decent Wine gums in Canada in the bulk candy area of a supermarket but I can't remember which chain. Both of these candies seem a bit pricey to me. They can also be found in the duty free of some European airports.
  22. Thanks for the info. I have never heard about the VO2 numbers. Did they have any for Merckx or Hinault?
  23. I think he was just a better cheater with better technology at his disposal. And maybe he skipped the rest of the tour just to avoid more drug tests. I started watching the tour while I was in France in 1978. It was great to watch on French TV, especially when you only had 3 channels.
  24. I am curious. How many of these called their own plays?
  25. During the Stanley Cup, they don't coast on the ice. They pretty much go all out on each shift. They are spent at the end of the game. Soccer players are on the field more but they aren't going full out every minute. So each sport demands a different kind of endurance but I am sure at the end they are both equally exhausted. They must have had the wrong booking agent.
