Yeah if Beane had taken a WR in the 3rd or 4th we'd be in the Super Bowl for sure!

Projecting the 53 man roster
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was just one game for Andreessen, don't recall anything about last week, but from what I've also read even before Andreessen great game yesterday, sounded like Morrow was in trouble of being cut. -

I think a better chance Edwards goes to IR, but then is released with injury settlement as from what I read, didn't sound like he looked that good even when he was playing in the spring. It may be they keep him more out of desperation. I wonder too, with this new designation, is the a minimum number of weeks you need to be on IR, 6 games I'll assume?? -

Rules changed, you can now put 2 players on IR before final cuts and bring them back during the season. Don't know if you have to designate who the 2 are or can wait and see how the injuries work out? But either way, he can start out on IR. With the injuries that happened yesterday, wouldn't be shocked if Milano is moved to IR in next couple of days. -
Recall back was in 1991 or 92, Kelly got hurt, out for 3 weeks, maybe people thought the Bills would lose all 3, Reich came in and won all 3. In those same years recall the Bills going 0-5 in pre-season and then went to SB. If the games matter and Allen's hurt and not playing, then lets see where things are. As other posts state, you can't base anything on pre-season. Mitch has probably played as well as Wilson, so if a guy like that is NG, the Bills aren't getting a better backup.

The preseason means everything!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Bills!Win!'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Recall the Bills SB years going 0-5 in pre-season. And yes played 5 pre-season games back then. PS Why isn't pre-season a real word? Where is Webster when you need him? -

So she attended the game? -
Once the starters are out and even past 2nd string, think there's a big advantage to Bears having already played a game, particularly WRT special teams. Aside from Martin, Many of these guys toward bottom of roster may never have even played ST. Wonder too do coaching staffs sometimes try to get embarrassed in pre-season game to use as a wake up call?

Why not, they have break dancing now!

Joe Buscaglia's Projected 53 man roster as of today
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to MikePJ76's topic in The Stadium Wall
That may be what keeps Collins on the roster, do they want to go with 4 backups with essentially no experience. Agree too they may find a vet cut from another team and sign him instead. Article also stated a similar thing could happen at safety or I'll add maybe Hyde? -
I'm not a big fan of ex QB as OC's when they have a great QB as think they see themselves in the QB's eyes and think to themselves, if I had his talent, I'd have been a star and try to get to cute in game planning and show what could do.

Projecting the 53 man roster

But then can the come back after 4 or is it 6 weeks. Prior you could go right to IR, but if you're not first named to the 53, but say next wek put on IR, you're done for the year. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
So most years, there's always a vet player or two not subject to waivers that is cut with the intent to bring back and allow someone else to be moved to the recallable IR list. With the team getting younger this year, how many of those guys to we have left that are eligible. One name I can think of is Ferguson. As has been pointed out prior, the Bills have always kept 5 LB's so can't see them going with 4 at that group. -
Bass struggling at minicamp (and now at training camp)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
A long time ago, but don't forget Anderson. That's probably the biggest blunder, but can understand how it happens. Bass certainly struggled last year and was up and down a couple times, but more down the up. Actually I blame it all on Jim Nantz. Bass started the year off 9 of 9, Nantz announced that as he went for his 10th kick, missed it and was down hill from there. Prior to last year though he was very good and everyone here was praising him and talking about how lucky we were to have him. -
Yeah but the problem there is when a RB is on the field in passing situations, maybe 1/2 the time he goes out on a pass pattern, the other half, he's used for blocking and do you want to trust a rookie to pick up blitzes? That was one area Cook did seem to improve on in his 2nd year as a blocker as likely may even be better yet this year.

My dark horse candidate since April has been Frank Gore Jr and I'll stick with it. -

That fact that Terry had her ruled in incapacitated and he is now her guardian doesn't bode well for the likelihood much improvement IMO. Like JP51 stated, there may be some improvement, but probably not substantial. -
QB2 is a problem and has been ignored for years
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
Do you realize that back up QB's get on average about 6 snaps a week with the 1st string. I don't care how good or bad you think Mitch is, a rookie getting that little work would be a downgrade from Mitch for quite some time. Simple solution, give the backup more snaps, yeas at the expense of less work for the 1st team. 30 years ago this could work as there were little rules limiting the amount of practice time, but not today with all the rules in place regarding practice time. By the time the guy may get to be decent if ever, he'll likely be at the end of his contract and not likely he-d have any interest in resigning wit ha team where he knows the only way he's going to ever see the field is either to hand off in mop up games or if Allen were to get hurt. -

I read that about during Wednesdays practice she was in a car, not sure about today?? -
that the offense wasn't going to largely center around him so he became a distraction more than he was worth. He likely would have lasted one more year based on his contract, but think things reached a level sooner than they expected so decided to bite the bullet and get rid of him now with the goal of becoming younger and felt it was worth taking the bigger cap hit this year, but giving them more flexibility in 2025 than they'd have had if they kept him another year.

The Quality of Our Opinions
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall
While many here will likely disagree with my opinion, but I would also add to your list, for the most part local beat reporters. They have direct access to the players, coaches, and front office that none of us do. They also likely are privy to many off the record conversations. A reporter may talk to Beane off the record and he'll state "we're considering doing X" It may then be reported in an off hand way by the reporter "I wouldn't be surprised if X happens" and everyone here jumps on the reporter as what does he know, especially if they don't like the message. He's not going to quote Beane, but he does have inside information on this. National writers with a few exceptions, they more are often reading tea leaves form afar. -
Who is your surprise cut this year?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's not my point. My point is teams are good at gauging what another team will pay for player. So they either need to sign him for an "absurd" amount or they may lose him. You either pay what other teams are willing to pay or lose the player. There's also the other side of this, in the past there were players who were FA and Beane waited them out until was able to sign him for what the Bills and other felt he was worth. They waited until he came down to their level and were able to do that without fear of losing him as others also didn't value him any higher. -
Who is your surprise cut this year?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
The problem there is likely if the Bills didn't give him that some other team would have. One thing I think the Bills and most NFL teams are very good (unlike many poster here) is gauging a players worth and knowing how much to pay someone if they want that player, whether it be re-signing their own or signing a FA, they know what to offer as do most teams.
