  1. That's not my point. My point is teams are good at gauging what another team will pay for player. So they either need to sign him for an "absurd" amount or they may lose him. You either pay what other teams are willing to pay or lose the player. There's also the other side of this, in the past there were players who were FA and Beane waited them out until was able to sign him for what the Bills and other felt he was worth. They waited until he came down to their level and were able to do that without fear of losing him as others also didn't value him any higher.
  2. The problem there is likely if the Bills didn't give him that some other team would have. One thing I think the Bills and most NFL teams are very good (unlike many poster here) is gauging a players worth and knowing how much to pay someone if they want that player, whether it be re-signing their own or signing a FA, they know what to offer as do most teams.
  3. I'll go with this direction. I was going to post with instead of a surprise cut, was going to go with a surprise of who makes the team and my pick was going going to be Frank Gore Jr. And likely for him to make the roster, Johnson would become a prime cut candidate. $2.25Mil isn't a huge deal in the NFL so that amount hardly guarantees he makes the roster over someone who outplays him. Good chance MVS is on the team, but doubtful it's because of the contract.
  4. That's one of the issues. It's much easier to prove gambling as there are often solid proof. Receipts can't recant or be payed off for silence. Like it or not, gambling also can impact the integrity of the game and potentially the players teammates where with cases involving violence, it's about one person only. As someone else posted, we still all watch the games so add to that.
  5. Rogers does think he's the GM of the Jets. Based on that I'd argue this is tampering and we should be awarded the Jets' 1st round pick in next years draft!
  6. On the other hand if that's the teams biggest need, think we're in pretty good shape then overall!
  7. It must be as that's what fits PBF81's continual narrative. I'm sure this recent heat spell Western NY is having is also due to McD micro managing the weathermen too. It couldn't just be that Diggs is a diva who sulks and goes through the motions when he's not the focus of the team.
  8. The players probably view it as the shortest 6 weeks!
  9. How can he be one of the best or top 5 when the scale being given says a B means he is NOT one of the top 10. Sorry kind of picking on you guys when my complaint is more about the OP's scale. Think there's way to much of a gap between the A and B ranking. Maybe B would be better if it said he's not one of the top 5, but when say he's not even top 10 make him more average and what should be more like a C grade.
  10. Realistically who could they trade for that A) is available, B) is a clear step up from what they have now C) they can afford the contract? D) doesn't hurt them either on the field on financially beyond this coming season Think the list gets pretty small if anyone. A guy like Allen makes all the WR's look better than they are. Add in Kincaid at TE and this team is stronger than you'd think. The team looked pretty strong the last month of the season with Diggs doing pretty much nothing. Only 5 QB's had more completions than Allen and only 4 more yards. Is not like if the team had Hopkins last year like many folks wanted Allen would have thrown another 1000 yards. It would mostly mean that others would have less yards instead.
  11. That certainly is true of Brady, was it also true with Manning? Don't recall all the talk about him in the same way it's been of Brady WRT working out, off season, etc.
  12. To me the key is longevity, winning multiply times with same team so do agree with the Oilers In the "modern era" of sports I'd go with Steelers of late 70's as they won 4 superbowls with most of the same roster. Reds of the 70's were pretty good to with a real all star roster. Bulls were on top for close to 10 years so they have to be one of the best ever too. Kept a good part of the roster together too over that span. Even though they never won it, do have to consider the Bills as the best roster ever for a team that never won a championship.
  13. You should have titled this thread should we trade pass the Clapp back to them?
  14. Was thinking a bit about Chase Claypool. He very likely was also a diva WR, but he was a diva with poor QB play so then becomes labeled a real problem child and need to get rid of him. So will see now has a good QB, will he have a good year. Was also mentioned Claypool's best year as a rookie was still when Big Ben was around as his QB
  15. Certainly not buying into the OC's plans is a headache in itself. Yes but do you want him to then kind of sulk when he doesn't get he ball as that was the impression he was giving by year end, more going through the motions.
  16. Article in todays BN makes me think the biggest rift was between Diggs and Brady. He didn't like the direction the offense was going in, article kind of supports that too. Think he just kept sulking more and more each week late last year., I'd imagine Diggs and Brady talked in off season tying to get Diggs to buy in, wasn't happening so figured best to trade him. https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/buffalo-bills-stefon-diggs-josh-allen-nfl-houston-texans/article_2e5188b6-22ab-11ef-bbe8-6782a08e6066.html
  17. Unless they drastically both outplay the competition, I think it will be one spot for either Scantling or Claypool as feel the team will more want to give that last roster spot to someone younger who could stick around with the team longer. Shorter is locked up for another 3 years I'd imagine on rookie contract so could more see him sticking and taking the last slot.
  18. When I read the article two things struck me first the authors comments about Lawrence's development. I do, however, remember thinking this at the time: He’s going to need to be reprogrammed from Clemson’s RPO-heavy, simplistic passing game and be taught an NFL passing game from the ground up, conceptually. 2nd comment made was: He’s not even the best quarterback in the AFC South — that would be the Texans’ C.J. Stroud, last year’s No. 2 pick and Offensive Rookie of the Year. To me Stroud is still a bit of a TBD. Yes he played better last year, but there have been a number of rookie wonders over the years, lets see how he looks this year and even the year after that.
  19. Yes but the 17th game in 2025 will be NFC West at AFC East, for Bills good chance it will be SF at Buffalo
  20. Lot of time rookie QB's look real good, but then teams figure them out by the 2nd year. Even with adding Diggs, I'll be surprised if Stroud plays as well this year. Levis is a real emotional guy, a fan favorite, but how much improvement will we actually see??
  21. Agree, the point I was trying to make though was when any team drafts a player that young, regardless of how well he was ranked, IMO the uncertainty increases as to how good he'll eventually become also increases. Beane seems to be going more for players with less risk lately, drafting the lower hanging fruit.
  22. True, but he was still very young when drafted and was expected to improve significantly which happened somewhat, but not likely to the level they expected.
  23. One of the things that Beane appeared to address differently this year and maybe even already last year was picking players who performed high in college as opposed to in the early years of Beane as GM was picking players more based on potential and ceiling. A couple that come to mind were Knox, Edmunds, even Allen. I suppose it made more sense back than as the team was in a more longer term building mode whereas now they are looking to replace players with a new younger version right away.
  24. I don't think Diggs skipping OTA's with the Bills was a big deal as he had developed good chemistry with Allen. But on a new team with a new QB is more a big deal. But he basically has a one year contract so little need as he can walk after 2024.
  25. Somebody must have heard me talking about this the other day as the Athletic just did an article on this. Of the 31% 3rd drafted QB's Allen is one of them, interestingly so is Big Ben whom Allen is sometimes compared too
