McDermott isn't going anywhere....
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McD. Just read an article a week or two ago that basically stated considering the talent he has to work with , Daboll's done pretty well. So not really faulting him there, lets first see what he can do with some talent on the team. Reading your response the other poster, kind of stats the same. -
All-22 Analysis: Guard Wyatt Teller
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to steven50's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because he's a rookie 5th round draft choice that looked good in per-season (as did Peterman), but the people that see him every day in practice, meeting, etc, don't feel he's ready yet. The fact that he did play some last week may mean he's getting closer to being ready. By next season he could be a starter, maybe later this season after the bye. maybe he starts seeing more PT even maybe start. -

But now you'll be ripped for McD is so clueless that he hasn't played him, he can't even see talent himself when it's right there in front of him! -

Well I'll take your word for it that they were top 10, they certainly didn't look anything that special. It had to be almost completely on the legs of McCoy as it sure wasn't because of TT's great play. So to say he destroyed the offense is a large stretch. Who did he get rid of on the offensive side that was talked about on an elite or even close to elite level. Please don't say Watkins as he did pretty much nothing. Neither did Woods or Goodwin while here. The only player really outstanding besides McCoy was RI and he kind of sealed his own fate. What exactly has McD done to show he's clueless? The way I see it he's shown very little good or bad as they haven't signed or drafted anyone too much. You want to fault him for neglecting the offense ok fine, but can't fix everything at once. If you want to fault him for play calling, execution, that falls more on the OC than him, or at least it should. -
Peterman actually played quite well!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
189 yards on 31 completions is about 6 yards per completion. And as has been stated the INT's weren't on him, if the receiver had actually caught those passes from what I recall were all over 10 yards each too. I also tend to agree with the article. As was also stated, very few teams have a good backup QB, and the few that do, likely has more to do with the players around him than his actual play. I missed the Minn game, but of the others I saw, watching it I thought it was the best game of the year at QB for the Bills overall. Who's played better this season for the team? -
I think I'm out on McDermott

I haven't seen them do anything on the offensive side to say either way that they can or can't do it. The players they've drafted in the top 4 rounds defensively have looked pretty good and solid, no obvious busts there. I have trouble believing that people can have the knowledge to draft correctly defensively, but not on the offensive side? Once you get below the 4th round it's kind of a crap shoot however it works out, you hope for some successes there, but don't expect too much either. The three players they did draft offensively Dawkins looks solid, Jones has looked OK this year with no supporting cast around him, can't recall seeing too many bad drops like last year. Allen is way too early to know either way in spite of what many here claim and even if he does bomb out, the number of 1st round QBs that fail is pretty large, welcome to the club. People argue that you need an offensive mind to know how to draft that side, well then how does that guy know how to draft the other side? Couple years back people here were clamoring for Adam Gaise, he isn't looking very good lately and he was this supposed offensive guru from what I recall. They ignored the offense which if you want to blame him there, can't argue much. They wanted extra draft picks, for the most part the only players they could have moved and got any value back were on the offensive side so they let some there go, couple that with losing Woods and RI left them in worse shape. The molding and shaping you mention was mostly dumping players and getting little back, but no effort to get return so can't say they can't do it either. There's really very little evidence either way. -
WHO DESERVES THE BLAME?? THE PEGULAS!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to billsfan61184's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK I'll agree with you there, but where's the lies and the misleading part? I'd agree they underestimated the QB part and even there think it came down to they felt AJ would have looked/played much better than he did. Not excusing them for that, but seems like that was their big mistake and not bringing in a guy like Anderson earlier. The other big mistake was winning 9 games last year which resulted in a worse than expected draft position and resulted in leaving the "cupboard" more bare. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to billsfan61184's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What specifically do you feel they lied about?? IMO what Beane and McD told the P's were they have too many overpaid contracts that need to be purged. Until those are off the books we're going to be be pretty bad, but will have high draft choices. Maybe they mislead them last year by winning 9 games when they thought they'd only win 5 or 6. Admittedly they likely didn't think they'd be looking this bad. In hindsight they would have maybe been better developing some offense and some defense as opposed to all emphasis on one side. But again, they likely didn't think they'd be anywhere this bad on offense either. -

Was everyone who says they should fire him stating the same at the end of last season when they made the playoffs and went 9-7 when most at the beginning of the year were predicting 4 to 6 wins? Just curious? -
Matt Barkley should start next week.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to realtruelove's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll say this Peterman also has the worst luck. The first two ints really weren't his fault. Even on the 3rd one, the announcers were commenting how Benjamin did nothing to help on that one. -
That was the knock on Darnold going, he may tend to throw alot of INT's. Every year the best QB class of all time is the class a year out. Then they all play their last year and ones who were can't miss, drops off and some unknown pops up out of nowhere. That's the part I don't understand how so many here ripping the Bills for picking the wrong guy. All of them had questions, Allen had all the tools, but accuracy was in question, Darnold may be the most ready but question on turnovers, Rosen, will he stay interested and concussions, Mayfield played n the B-12 where there was no defense and tended to free wheel way too much for the NFL. It wasn't like any of them were can't miss. Who ever they picked was a question.

Brandon Beane deserves to be fired tomorrow
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK so assuming you live by him, how does that make you an expert on his state of mind? Do you two hang together every night? I'm sure he goes out of his way to talk to you about the Bills and what should be done.? Or maybe you just give your opinion and thoughts to him. Can see how that would be perceived as him having a big ego. I'm sure anyone in a position like he is in would be very guarded around others and others could view it as ego driven. -

The level of idiocy around here is amazing. I can't believe how many times I've read this here about either Beane or McD. What the pattern seems to always be, "The Bills made a move I don't like or agree with, since he didn't do what I wanted there can't be any other reason to not agree with my brilliance so it's because of his ego" I seriously doubt any poster on this board has any idea what type of ego any of those guys really have, though IMO listening to McD speak I haven't heard much of anything come from him that makes me think he has a big ego. Beane haven' read/heard enough direct quotes, but regardless none of us have any real idea. -
If Andy Reid is so smart, how come in all his years in Philly he passed on guys like Rodgers, Brady, Big Ben, and Brees just to name a few off the top of my head? This goes back to the OP's point, not nearly as easy to predict as some want to think in hind sight. And lets give Mahomes more than half a season before we start sculpting his HOF bust here too.

Fan conduct at the game.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to The Bills Blog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's the thing people who post on message boards (in particular in the off-season) are way beyond the normal fan. We take the word fan short for fanatic and it really should be fanatic on steroids. I recall years back going to a Bills game with someone else driving and he was playing music in his car on the drive there and back. MUSIC!! Fng MUSIC when the pre and post and post-post-post game shows are on! What kind of a moron would be listening to music?? But then again he doesn't post on message boards either. -
I'm not sure they tried to build an offense and no one here knows the answer to that. Their strategy could be we don't have enough money for both so lets build the defense first. Long term offensive salaries are higher so does make sense to get the defense going first as once players are all off rookie contracts harder to keep all your offensive plyers as they are paid more. Seattle did that, Rams kind of did too. IMO The one miscalculation by the front office was that they were as good as they were last year which landed them a lower than expected draft slot which meant took more draft capital to move up to the top. If they had finished 8-8 where they would have drafted, likely could have kept at least one of the extra 2nd or 3rd rounders if not two. Those could hve been used on the offense, but instead are rather bare.
-
I thought Kolb was 1st rounder, guess I mis-read it, the other two, I wasn't implying they were 1st rounders, realized that. My point being the OP was claiming as to how great of a talent evaluator in QB's Andy Reid is. Well a 2nd rounder on Kolb wasn't very impressive, plus the bigger point would be how many in that time frame did he pass on that were likely available when he drafted; Arron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, could have traded up a couple of picks for Big Ben just to name a couple of top names. If he was that smart, he would have easily got one of them for certain. It just goes to the point that drafting QB's is more a crap shoot than anything. 13 teams passed on Mahomes and I'm sure if the other 15 behind that pick felt Mahomes was going to look as good as he has to date, they'd have moved up too.
-
LOL Just to put things in perspective this same competent scouting that you're talking about, while likely not the same identical top to bottom front office and coaching staff, the guy in the middle of all that Andy Reid during his years with the Eagles drafted Kevin Kolb in the 1st round, AJ Feeley, Andy Hall and Donovan McNabb (got one right) So is he really so s smart or just got lucky. And lets give a little more time than 6 games too. Dak Prescott was looking amazing the first 10 games of his rookie year. Since then looks OK, but not great.

WATSON/MAHOMMES IF THEY WAS
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to liverpoolkev's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The one thing I do know when comparing Watson/Mahomme 2nd year against Allen's rookie yearis he already has exceeded Mahome's rookie stats and was closing in on matching Tribisky. Beyond that who know how Allen will do long term, maybe he'll be flop or maybe he'll become very good. But do know for all the supposed experts here who keep telling us how smart they are and know Allen will be a bust, neither of those two were thought anywhere as highly in last seasons draft based on where they were drafted. -
Here is why I'm not panicking...

Wow, that's pretty impressive that a high school coach made the playoffs last year. Maybe that means there's even hope for you.
