USA Today's 4-Round Mock - I'd be Thrilled
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Metcalf is another one of these high risk/ high reward types. From what you hear, it may be worth it. -
Did they? I heard yesterday AB state the Steelers agreed to trade him, but haven't heard the Steelers state that yes we will trade him. Granted they are due to pay a big roster bonus, so ideally you'd want to make the a trade prior. But also could come back that Sorry AB we didn't get any good offers, we're keeping you. Likely he'll be gone, but will see.

McBeane Draft Tendencies?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just heard Kipers latest draft he has Metcalf going to Buffalo at #9. He has the TE from Iowa going at #8. And yes I know 20 people will likely state "what does Kiper know" He did state more than once during the interview, "What I'm hearing" So his mock isn't just him going into a room and deciding who he thinks are the top 100 or whatever players. He's getting feedback from teams front office's telling him what they also think. Every team in the league talks with the front offices of other teams themselves and gets some feedback. I'm sure Beane and Gettleman are talking, not enough to give each others own respective plans away, but enough to get a sense on what other teams are thinking of doing. Are the teams likely blowing smoke, sure, but if the smoke from 5 teams all blows in the same direction, that likely does mean the wind is blowing in that direction. Will there be some shifts, certainly. For everyone still on this "the obvious pick was JJ Smith-Schuster over Zay Jones". Do you actually think Schusters numbers would have been anything even close with TT then a combo of 4 different people throwing him the ball this past season. The Bills have had some of the worst WR/QB play in the past two seasons, assuming Allen is the answer, that should improve, will see. It's hard to find much data now that goes back to prior to the 2017 draft but the little I could find one article ranked Jones as the better choice another had Smith-Schuster as the 9th best overall offense threat which pretty much included any position on the offense except the line and Jones was 16th, hardly enough to say "the obvious pick was JJ Smith-Schuster" -
2019 Free Agency Cheat Sheet
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Repost on March 11th, could come in handy then And if it could be downloadable would be really nice! -
While more often than not teams don't block moves like this may be to that the Saints look at this like; "Now! a week and half before the combines, almost to the start of FA. Sorry we're too committed to this guy now and not enough time to bring a replacement for him. Should have called us last month!"
-
If I were to trade for someone, either Brown or OBJ, I think I'd first call Atlanta and see what it would take to get Julio instead. He's about the same age as Brown, and not as mentally unstable as the other two and his numbers have been just as good. But they don't appear to be talking about trading him so the price may be higher.

Kipers predictions for last year Round 1
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Da webster guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saw that thread the other day that had Foster and Wallace as potential 1st round picks. Even if in reality, in a re-draft they were selected in the 2nd or 3rd, to go that high from being undrafted, after all the interviews, film study workouts, etc. shows me how little the scouts, front office, etc really know about who's going to be a star and who's a dud. -
Interesting And Sad Coaching Tidbit
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
3 years has seemed to have become the standard length a coach lasts without making the playoffs. Though do think after three years if there's obvious improvement, buys them an extra year. Barring a return this coming season to like 2 or 3 win season. McDermott making the playoffs in his first season likely buys him a 4th year. I also think Pegula strikes me as wanting to be a patient person, even though he got rid of Ryan quickly with good reason. In the case of Williams and Galley, seemed after three years things had got worse not better too. Also in Galley's case, wasn't he hired by Marv but he was gone by the time he was fired? Don't see Fred Smerles favorite coach listed Hank Bullouh (sp) If Fred had ever been inducted into the HOF, I'm sure Hank would have been his presenter. -
Does Brady finally hang it up now?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well I guess then he must want to throw a bunch of bad passes too then that in prior years didn't seem to happen. Granted when the chips were down the passes got completed, but sure saw many more bad passes than I did in prior years. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You wonder what's really going through his mind, I till got it lets go for #7 next year, or does he realize he just completed a season somewhat similar to Peyton Manning's last year. Even in this years Super Bowl, he threw many bad passes and all regular season he was often shaky. Granted in the 4th quarter both against KC and the Rams, he was vintage Brady (and vintage Gronk). I'd think Brady would step down before going out like Manning, the question is does he truly think he's still got it or is he beginning to realize he's struggling. Probably the best thing for him would be for Gronk to retire and use the $9 mil or so he was being paid on other younger WR's nd TE. The one thing he does have going is it seems like his line has turned around and is much improved. Can recall a couple years back the line was very shaky. -
Bill Polian on Bills coaching and more....

My Hypothetical Julio Jones Trade....Yes or No?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My thought exactly. I already let Beane know. True and the scoring in our league is PPR for WR 1 point for every 15 yards, so need TD's to rack up the points. There were many weeks he didn't make his projection. I also have Fornette, so need to decide between the two. Fornette had a terrible year, but will see if he does get cut/traded or they gear the offense around him. -
Miami officially hires Brian Flores as HC
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll be surprised if this works out in Miami. No way to know how much is BB and how much is this guy, but based on number of failures of BB assistants I'd be rather skeptical. -
post game interview madness
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Da webster guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just read an article praising Tracy Wolfson for handling it like a pro and blaming it on security. You can argue security let it get out of hand or can argue security was lettign the players enjoy their moment without being bothered by reporters. I'll go with the 2nd one! Kind of reminded me of the Peter Rose Jim Grey interview And to the poster who commented she shouted the entire time, that's the only voice I've ever heard from her. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They used a #1 on a WR last year, plus have Sanu. I can tell you I'm ready to give up on him as he's my keeper on my fantasy team and his numbers have been pretty low. He'll have a couple of monster games, but overall too many people to throw the ball to down there. -
Who's more overrated...goff or mcvay
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well when you have the best RB in the league (at least for the first 14 weeks or so) and arguably one of the top defensive talents in the league if not #1 and one of top rated young healthy QB's in the league, it's easy to look like a genius HC. I think he has a very short window to win as once they extend Goff and others will be hard to keep the bulk of the team together. And once a team is considered great the value of all their pending FA's becomes elevated compared to other FA with other teams -
Non-call affected Super Bowl too
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plain and simple whining! Again there can be calls every play if you'd like. I recall back in the 90's people in Western NY who were not Bills fans always complaining about how obnoxious Bills fans were and how they'd get all the calls in their favor. Now the shoe's on the other foot as they say! -

Stop your whining, there's holding on every play. You need to find something a lot better than that to complain about.- 59 replies

True story, years ago went on a bus trip to a Bills game, bus company had a problem with the bus we were supposed to get so instead sent two of these small 20 passenger mini buses. Enough seats for everyone, however only one of the buses had a bathroom. So now get to the stadium and all 40 or so people are using the bathroom on one bus. By the time the game ended, it was literately within about 1/2" of overflowing. So the two buses left the stadium, got up onto 219 and pulled over, the bus without the toilet pulled behind the other one to kind of shield the view from the highway. My bus driver then got out of the bus and pulled the plug along the side of 219! Can you imagine a couple hours later a state trooper or someone stopping on the side of the road wondering what is that pile? He probably called in a sighting of Big Foot is in the area!

I really think the reason he got fired as fast as he did was more due to off the field things going on, i.e. showing up to a press conference wearing a Clemson helmet, having an ex player be the game day captain.. Can't recall other things similar anymore, but there were many. Those are the types of things regardless of the talent, won't change the person.
