Offensive Line Continuity

Wasn't everyone raving about Dallas O-line 3 years ago. Did I read that there are only 2 or 3 of the five still there? -
Three Holding Penalties on One Play?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it would need to be in the same spot to top 3 holding penalties! But as noted above that could be called for "piling on"! PS We can now say this place is going to the dogs! -
Wild eyed optimist moment
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to RochesterRob's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is true, maybe not as bad but think there's still enough holes to fill and even with a lower pick no guarantees that one will hit either. Plus with higher pick could trade down for more picks. -

Assume you're right and they somehow get to 8-8 or 9-7. Is that really want you want? Highly unlikely they will get anywhere close to #1 overall, but would be happy with a top 10 pick which typically translates to 5 maybe 6 wins. I'd be happier with that. -

I'd agree with this, one high tier FA, and maybe a 2nd who's not quite as high paid, then draft a RT or guard in 2nd round. Don't completely rule our Ike B and Conor M for next season either. At a minimum they could be your 6th and 7th guys, first off off the bench.

[Name Only Title] Wyatt Teller?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dave Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd think they'll do more than one O-lineman. I can see them signing a high level FA, maybe even two for the line, plus draft another, maybe 2nd rounder for guard or RT. Possibly either Ike B or McD from the practice squad can also develop into at least a legit depth player for the line. -
The only thing that keeps Lewis employed is he works for the cheapest owner in the league who doesn't want to have to pay off contracts, both for Lewis and assistants. IMO Lewis has a bad year or two, ready to get fired but Brown wants to give him one more year so he'll have less years left to pay off. But then Lewis has a good season so Brown re-signs him again (and for less $$ than most coaches would want) and we repeat the cycle.

The coach is never tanking, he's always trying to win with whatever he has. The GM, he can easily be looking down the road and as you said shed contracts, etc.. Does that mean McD hasn't been consulted on every roster move, certainly was on board. But when Sunday rolls around McD and even Beane to a lesser degree are trying their hardest and doing everything they can to win.

Kelvin Benjamin needs to be cut
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saw that one too, That may have been his worse effort of the year. Camera angles can be bad, but from what the TV showed, looked like he would have had a good chance to catch it. That play alone is worth getting cut over. Kind of funny the one game he looked good was the pre-season against Carolina as he had something to prove. Since then, nothing! -
Choose your dream-regime!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually you bring up a good suggestion but in a different role. I'd keep everything as is in general, maybe a new ST and O-line coach, but would keep McD as HC (min 1 to 2 more seasons) and let him make any coaching changes he feels is needed, the 2 mentioned above being likely. BUT would bring in Arians as president or if you want to call it czar fine too., kind of in a similar role as TC is in Jax. A young HC would likely gain value in having someone like that to lean on when needed and could also help the GM too. But think it's much more value in having a person who actually was a HC. People have talked about Polian, but he has no HC experience nor Pioli plus another one of these guys where tough to separate out how much is him vs BB influence. Pick another name in place of Ariens if you want but make it someone who was a HC for awhile with success, and is old enough to not want to get back into coaching as don't want the HC having to be looking over his shoulder all the time. -
The Nonsense about Camp & Preseason
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To your point, I recall a number of season between 1990 and maybe around 1998, the Bills going 0-5 in pre-season. (and yes they were still playing 5 pre-season games back then, at least back in the beginning of those years). Actually I remember even playing six pre-season games. What does that prove, that I'm old! -
Baring another say 2-14 season, I'll be very surprised if he's not given at least 4 years as really don't think TP wants to keep making changes if he feels the person is doingthings correctly and just needs more time. He's not getting fired for at least one more season, IMO 2 years Cleveland needs a coach now so no. Unless you prefer starting all over again with new players to fit a different scheme. Just curious, were you calling for him to be fired the end of last season when they went 9-7 and made the playoffs? He "tore it down" because the only players the team had with any trade value were on the offensive side. The team wanted draft picks to move up so the only way to do that was to make trades. Unless they way over paid, Sammy wasn't re-signing here so stop any delusions of thinking how much better the team would be with him here. And to say he "tore it down" is maybe the equivalent of saying he tore down an outhouse! They looked good on paper and were a very good running team, but never felt that was a strength. For the past 3 to 4 seasons everyone was complaining about how weak the O-line was so there wasn't much torn down there, are they better now, no, but nothing was torn down either. QB, they weren't going anywhere with TT WR was the one position they were better at then than now, but highly doubt they'd have re-signed Watkins and if they had, every one here would have gone nuts regarding how much they over paid. From what I read, Woods wanted to go to a west coast team, and with the QB play here the past 2 plus seasons, he'd likely look the same as he did when he was here which was nothing special.

Read an article not that long ago that said they likely would give him transition tag from what I've read would cost them between $10 to $15 mil. Gives him the option to negotiate with other teams so can't see why he'd sit out. Will be surprised if any teams really offer him what he thinks he's going to get or maybe will get a big contract but for short term, probably about what he'd have got this year under the tag. Connor playing as well as he has, hasn't helped Bell's cause much. Shows how indispensable RB's really are. One thing that did surprise me a bit is that I knew players received a game check for each weeks game, assumed it was their total salary divided by 16, didn't realize it include the bye weeks so it's salary divided by 17.

Many guys are limited in practice, but still play. Just read Edmunds cleared concussion protocol and will start, he was 100% limited all week. Granted normally with the QB whe nthey are limited but play, it's normally an experienced vet like Arron Rodgers missed a few weeks of practice, but still played. Would be unusual in Allens case, unless he was less limited than was made out to be.

Odds of Allen playing tomorrow?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or the entire thing is to try and make the Jets spend time preparing for three different QB's. Don't know much about Barkley, but the other two are different enough that would make you spend more time on diverging game plans. Granted the bar is very low, but thought last weeks game other than the Minn game was the best game of the season at QB overall. Do you honestly beleive the int's last week were Peterman's fault?? -
