Can we afford to carry 3 active QB’s all season?
Dadonkadonk replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they will go with three QBs. My take is the 49th player on the team will be a back-up OL/DL that will rarely if ever dress. There is plenty of room to carry three QBs and have the guys that are needed to play dress. My other point is their is little difference between guy #40 and guy # 60 right now. They are mostly replaceable parts that can be jettisoned or brought back if needed. And there will be plenty of other guys cut across the league available for jobs if need be. All that said, I have no problem with going with just AJ and Josh. I would take my chances that Peterman doesn't get signed and he can go to the PS. He can still help from the PS -
It May Be Time To Think Big With The Bills

How many of those people who followed the sport closely predicted the Bills in the playoffs in 2017? -
Predict the division winner: NFC North
Dadonkadonk replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably the Vikings. I don't think much of Cousins but I doubt he is any worse than Keenum's career anomaly year. Defense looks to be great. Few losses in FA. I don't see the Packers offense being explosive enough with the WRs they have. Jimmy Graham is a great get in 2014 not so sure now. Full disclosure I would take Graham and his salary in a heart beat over Cay and O'Leary. Also I've never been sold on Mike McCarthy as a HC. -
You don't think TT and running ability had anything to do with the running game's success? Top 10 scoring offense with TT, Shady, Sammy, and Clay. This offense is without an explosive downfield threat. That means the majority of the passing games has to be 5-12 yards from the LOS and at times behind the LOS. Teh short passing game will open up some running lanes, and the running game will open up the play action passing. Want to stop this attack. Do what Rex did to Chan Gailey. Play a single high safety and play everyone else up tight. Drop the Linebackers and DB's into short zone coverage. Give up short passes, make tackles, DL get your hands up quick, and make the offense put together three short positive gains in a row to get a first down. Guaranteed in that sequence there will be a tipped ball, a drop, an errant pass, or a non-productive run. Force the offense to make an explosive play. That is how you beat this offense. How does this offense succeed? KB draws double teams and still can make plays with his size. Clay and O'Leary are capable receiving threats that can block enough to force opposing defenses to stay in their base defense. This favors the passing game. WR screens can beat short zones because the WR gets the ball often with blockers before the defense can get wide. Get rid of the FB. I'm serious. Just cut them all. The base set should be double TE, double WR and a single back or the Joe Gibbs three WR, one TE set. This gives multiple run pass options and mostly forces the defense to play their base 4-3 or 3-4.

"Ruining" a QB by starting him too soon
Dadonkadonk replied to Buffalo86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As in almost all cases in life and economics, it depends. Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman were terrible their rookie years. Doesn't mean they should not have started nor does it mean that they did not benefit from the playing time. My preference would be to sit and learn for a few games even up to an entire season. That said and like I said in another thread, if Allen is the best QB by far then play him game 1. If he isn't ready or AJ is playing well then let the kid sit and watch. -

Well said. I gasped after reading that no good QBs sat. Add Brett Favre, Steve Young, and Joe Montana to that list as well. -
Allen already a factor in QB race ?
Dadonkadonk replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good take on week #5. Peterman will play his way out of a job. He is a guy that probably looks great in film room but his JV arm has no place on a NFL field. -

My take is if AJ plays just as well as Allen then AJ should start. Give Allen several games to watch and learn. If AJ does well then just keep Allen on the bench and trade AJ in the off season. If Allen is clearly the best QB then he should start game 1. Assuming Peterman doesn't completely fall apart he probably stays as the 3rd QB. Not that he is needed but I suspect AJ will be a one year rental and Peterman will be the #2 next year. If AJ is good then he gets traded. If he isn't then he will just get cut. -
Regular season overtime question
Dadonkadonk replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't matter if the receiving team recovered the onside kick and only got a FG. The kicking team would still get a possession. But the receiving team would be in better field position to score a TD on their first possession which would end the game. With the low percentage of recovering an on-sides kick it makes no sense to try it and give up the field position. If you are confident your defense can stop them well stop them on their 25 yard line not mid-field. -
I would have been happy with Rosen or Allen. Mayfield will be a bust. Darnold to me is the hardest to predict.

After 8 games the only thing that matters is which QB plays the next 8 games. If they are 3-5 or worse with any QB not named Allen then switch to Allen. If they are 4-4 or better, with McCarron or Peterman then Allen sits unless they are out of the playoffs. This year is about the QB and rebuilding the front 7. If AJ or Peterman can win then Allen can sit and learn. Next year is about rebuilding the O-line

Harrison Phillips already standing out

This is great news. But I missed the NFL announcement that games were played without pads now. When did that happen? -
Bills' First Win of 2018-2019 Season
Dadonkadonk replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Indy is worse than the Jets even if Luck can play. I think they win 4 of the first 8, and then 6 in the second half of the season. There is usually a head scratcher somewhere. I could see a home win over the Patriots but dropping one of the road games against Miami or NYJ. -
It was more than coaching and scheme. They drafted a legit top 10 maybe top 8 CB. Most on this board were done with Darby. I would have kept Gilmore but I don't think he would have been the willing run support corner the defense needs. Gaines was a good fit. I like the signing of Davis more than I like the signing of PED Murphy. I really liked the Hyde signing at the time but thought they overpaid for Poyer never thinking he could play SS. Poyer is not the classic in the box big safety but McD and Frazier used him perfectly. By mid-season Hyde and Poyer were nearly interchangeable in coverage schemes. I would love to know how much of the Hyde signing was McD or Whaley or both. Hope I'm wrong about Murphy or Lawson steps up. Bills could have worst pass rush in the league if the DE spot doesn't get better and Hughes ages.

Top 10 Free Agents In Buffalo Bills History
Dadonkadonk replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spielman played a season and a half. Great player. Agree should bump TO for sure. Maybe Flutie should be in the Top 10. 21-9 as a starter is pretty good even though it was the #2 defense winning most games. FYI Flutie NFL career comp percentage 54.2%, Boston College 52.8%; Josh Allen in college 56.2% -
Top 10 Free Agents In Buffalo Bills History
Dadonkadonk replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Steve Tasker was claimed off waivers. Basically the same thing as a FA signing. Micah Hyde may be on this list in two more years. Flutie was never as good as anyone on this list but if you want him at 10 and bump Owens that is fine with me -
Worst Buffalo Bills player of all time
Dadonkadonk replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was the second half of my post and I prefaced it with letting the team down. Talley missed multiple tackles in SuperBowl XXV that helped keep Giants offense on the field,. He was awful in the most important game of his career. He is also my top overrated player of all time and someone who I don't think deserved Wall of Fame. That said however, he did have a solid career never being the best LB on the field and playing behind the greatest DE in NFL history. Kelso was just not that good and also had his worst moments in the SuperBowls. Jeff Wright, see above for Talley. For me, SuperBowl XXV was the worst moment I've experienced as a Bills fan. I blame Levy first and then Talley and Wright. Perhaps the wrong take on the OP question, but my response was prefaced with a slightly different twist on the OP question. -

Worst Buffalo Bills player of all time
Dadonkadonk replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like in all things, it is relative. Relative to potential, need, draft position, and alternative options the Bills could have gone. I started watching in 1980. Therefore I would include: Perry Tuttle Vince Ferragamo Bill Joe Hobert Tony Hunter Aaron Maybin Torrell Troup TJ Graham JP Losman Rob Johnson Langston Walker Derrick Dockery If you take the perspective of worst players that may have been ok but ultimately did not play up to potential or let the team down then: Darryl Talley Mark Kelso Jeff Wright Donte Whitner (hell he could be in the list above) Trent Edwards Drew Bledsoe (great for 8 games but terrible afterwards) I like Ronnie Harmon and he was a special player but the drop gets him on the list Josh Reed - I don't know why I dislike him so much but then again do I really need a reason, oh look at that it is 2018 and he still has yet to break a tackle after the catch
