Reading the tea leaves. (Mostly Oline related)
34-78-83 replied to Allen2Moulds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a really good post but also remember that cover1 breakdown was focused on the shortcomings in the running game, when specific bad plays happened. Its very accurate and right to point out the line as most of the problem and the backs as some part of it too. Just be careful not to let this review make you think the team is going to replace 3 or more linemen along with both backs. This film review didn't go over the successful plays made by these players in the run game, nor show that both backs are pretty good in pass pro. The Bills still believe in these backs and will stick with them, as they should, and backs don't require breakaway speed. Maybe they'll pick a fast one up later in the draft for a change of pace... I see up to 2 lineman being replaced by better run blockers. This line gave up the most hits on backs in the backfield and that makes a huge difference. This team is a passing team that is best with the ball in Josh's hands, and likes to spread 4 wide more than any other team. That puts them at a disadvantage in the run game from the start, and they know this. This will a calculated adjustment, not a full blown re-vamp. (IMO) -
RD 2, Pick 54: DE AJ Epenesa, University of Iowa

To me, they knew he was going to need time to adjust his body type to the pro game (so more of a need to than an "ask" to) and they also didn't draft him as an immediate "get on the field" need and had to learn some more of the nuances of the game. He lost a bit too much weight by working extra hard but either way he's a development player that should be at or near his expected performance levels by year 3. Not sure he'll ever be a game changer but projects as a solid player who can certainly contribute. -
Theory on why Allen struggles against KC
34-78-83 replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As always, there were a number of contributing factors at play here. One's that I noted or heard about from expert viewers (Eric Wood/ Cover 1) were: 1 - The extremely grabby defenders (Bills need to learn to play this way on D too if they get back to the AFC title game) 2- KC was waiting til Josh reacted to their alignment on D with adjustments, then they would switch out and then switch back to their original defensive alignment with very few seconds left on the clock causing confusion on the re-load 3- Crowd noise had both of our tackles reacting a split second late on snaps (which they weren't used to this year) 4- Our receivers were seriously banged up (especially Davis, Brown and Beasley to a degree) -
I think a "re-tooling" is in order for this off season. For the most part, the Bills have a very strong roster. Certainly their roster is strong enough to compete on par with any team in the league other than KC. For the upper tier teams, the cap and having to pay an elite QB makes it so that no team can be absent of flaws, although for now, KC is very close. I feel like while there may be needs in a number of areas for the Bills, the two primary focus areas should be on the lines of scrimmage. A difference making edge rusher DE and/or a "plugger" DT would help a great deal, as would another offensive lineman or 2. Our line played well in pass pro for the season, but it appears that some of it was surely assisted by Allen's athleticism and they certainly weren't great last night vs. KC. When it comes to run blocking, our line left a lot to be desired. Keeping in mind that its more difficult to run out of spread formations, still our backs were often stopped in the backfield, and far too often to at least maintain the "threat" of a running game. Yes for sure we are a passing team now and should stay that way, but this will allow them to be much harder to defend. As for coaching and strategy, I hope our coaching staff learned after last night that as the heat turns up in the playoffs round by round, the refs keep their whistles in their pockets more and more often in terms of flagging grabbing and holding by defenders. Its on our coaches for not adjusting to or anticipating this. This was the reason our receivers were covered like a blanket all night. And we don't have the types of receivers who can easily break handsy press coverage for the most part. If we get back to this game next year, our defense needs to play that way, laying hands on the opponent in coverage to keep them in check if we face another high powered offense. And our offense needs to have a plan of attack for getting off the line vs. overzealous press coverage (maybe more crossers and rub routes? More horizontal game ie. McKenzie's role).

Love the changes! Thanks SDS -
Hughes ( who deserves this playoff run more than he? ) Johnson - turning point in 2 key victories so far this year. Edmunds ( now has played extremely well in all 3 playoff games in career) Diggs - He’s just money in the bank Frazier - his most dominant performance in his largest ever game with the Bills

I think it's going to be another McKenzie day with how much man coverage the Ravens play. With that said I don't think Stills cracks the top 5 for tomorrow.

Jimmy Garoppolo headed back to the Patriots?

I hope he goes there. He's ok but also leaves a lot to be desired at the position. -
Why is Allen's improvement linked to Daboll?

The level of success has been literally directly in sync with the level of talent on the team. It matters more than any other factor. -
Leslie Frazier interviewing for Texans job
34-78-83 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As stated by others, they had already satisfied that rule. So it was quite serious and Frazier is a very good D coordinator and has experience as head coach. So the comment was short sighted and was only made because Frazier is black. -

Basically the thinking was like/dislike and thumbs up/down can’t coexist even though they are ever so slightly different -

thumbs down most important to me followed by an an alternate of dislike. -
Milano really did have an oddly poor game. Certainly not typical for him so I am not too worried. Edmunds on the other hand,,,,IF YOU ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND HIS ROLE IN SEAN'S DEFENSE , played one of his best games if not his best game of the season! This is 2 playoff games in a row where Edmunds was the best player out there on D for us. Lots of breakups and helped immensely in keeping Taylor under 4 ypc.

Did you ask that in the past? If not , someone else did. Either way, it's simply that they are my 3 favorite Bills of all time, during the era that I was able to attend every significant Bills home game live and in person. Love #12! My son and I went to his football camp too, and I had possibly even more fun than my son did, LOL.

Barnwell's Entire Playoff Prediction
34-78-83 replied to Ayjent's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Umm we're not losing to Pittsburgh if we are blessed enough to get to round 2 and Pittsburgh beats the Browns. This guy must be protecting an early season prediction of Pit/KC in the AFC Championship. Nobody in their right mind would pick Pit over Buf right now.
