Trent Dilfer: "I don't think Josh Allen should be playing"
TheBrownBear replied to VW82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm more worried about Allen getting physically killed, than I am about his psyche. His mental makeup seems pretty solid. -
Sean McDermott: "Culture Trumps Strategy" ?
TheBrownBear replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have absolutely no problem with Beane and McDermott gutting this roster, so long as the dudes they shipped out were not contributing to a positive atmosphere. They were brought in to rebuild this team the way they see fit. And I really don't understand how people can complain given they ended the playoff drought in their one full season, and presumably have secured our franchise quarterback for the next decade. This year is painful, but it's what year one of a rebuilding project looks like. Look back to the '88-'89 Cowboys or the '85-86 Bills. Those teams sucked, but the cultures were being created and the pieces put into place for future dominance. -
Kelly Holcomb was a hall-of-famer in comparison to most of the bums listed (and many who weren't).

Josh Allen: A fawn in headlights
TheBrownBear replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh Allen was always the biggest project of the "big 4" QBs. Very high ceiling, but a lower floor based on his current development. We're going to have to be very patient with this kid. And yes, it will sting watching Mayfield, Rosen and Darnold put up more impressive numbers than our guy for the next year or so, but drafting Allen was always about the longterm outlook. This team sucks top-to-bottom anyway, so there's really no point in whining about not having an NFL ready guy in there. The hope is that Josh grows with the rest of the roster over the next 2 to 3 years. If he looks like he did yesterday in the middle of year 2, then I'll start to worry. But the guy basically has a pass from me this year, so long as he continues to compete and show that he's a good leader/teammate. -
I think 2-2 is definitely doable.

Andrea Kramer seems pretty solid. Not sure about Hannah Storm though.

Don't look now, but Fitzy is on the comeback wagon.

Is anyone THAT upset being 0-2?
TheBrownBear replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm with the OP. This is a team of very meager talent. I have zero expectations that we'll even be competitive from week-to-week. Now that the Peterman experiment is over, I'm excited to watch Josh Allen's development. -
Great post. This is spot on, in my opinion. He definitely looks the part and seems to have the right make-up to lead this team into the future, but he still has quite a bit to work on. I think he'll eventually get the decision-making/processing stuff down after a year or two, but I do worry whether he'll ever be accurate. With his arm strength, gunslinger mentality and overall athleticism, he reminds me quite a bit of a young John Elway.

[Edited Title] Tremaine Edmunds looks Lost

Pretty sure he's only 20 years old. This is what it looks like when you're forced to start extremely green guys. -

You gotta trade McCoy now... right?
TheBrownBear replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was my exact thought. Allen needs at least one above-average NFL skill position player to work with. Not going to net much for Shady at this point so just ride out the contract so long as he remains productive. -
How many of you were optimistic going into the preseason?
TheBrownBear replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not really optimistic or pessimistic. Going into camp, poor QB play was my biggest worry, but Peterman and Allen both showed some good things in preseason and look like they have the potential to be quality starters. I really haven't a clue how this team will look on Sunday, but I'm excited to see what unfolds. -
That's pretty unfair. Just because you put down some roots here doesn't mean you don't have deeper roots somewhere else. I love Buffalo, but I'll most likely never live there again since my wife's family is entrenched in San Diego. And for these dudes with tons of $$$, there's more fun to be had, better weather, potentially higher QOL in lots of cities outside of Buffalo.

The thread for Positive Pollyannas!
TheBrownBear replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What does a negative Pollyanna look like? -
That was a once in a generation performance from Peterman last season in Carson. Not going to happen again. Seriously, given all the crap Peterman has taken from the national media and casual fans, I hope he tears it up this year and rewrites the narrative. Dude has major stones to pick himself up off the turf after that game and embrace the challenge of working and improving. I probably would have started polishing my resume or applied to grad school after that type of humiliation.

I'm probably a 6/10. We are supposed to be the worst team in the league, so expectations are obviously low. I'm curious to see if McDermott is some sort of wizard and gets the team to play greater than the sum of its parts. Also interested to see how Peterman plays and, should that go poorly, whether Allen is able to develop as the season progresses. To my eyes, there is a Jauron era level of talent on this roster, which doesn't indicate much of a high ceiling.
