My best guess is that Houston knows they aren’t going anywhere this season, he’s an older (more expensive) veteran, and he got hurt before camp to boot. Makes sense to let their young guys play and learn on the job. Fortuitous for us, to be sure.

Does it really matter? Those who love to bash Beane for his drafting (Hi @Ethan in Cleveland) will say the criteria is b.s., and those who value Beane will say the criteria is spot-on. The bottom line is that Beane is an overall top 5-10 GM in this league (at worst), and anyone who thinks he is holding the Bills back is an idiot.

Yeah, PS stashing is what I consider “roster gymnastics” — the question is how many new guys on the 53 when we kickoff on 9/11.

I would argue the team is better on the OL. Another year for Brown, signing McGovern, drafting Torrence…and another year of Kromer’s coaching. I would argue the team has better pass catchers, adding Sherfield, Harty, Kincaid…and Davis appears to be healthy. I would argue the team has a better secondary. Return of Hyde, Tre appears to be back to normal, adding Rapp, and another year for Benford and Elam. I would argue the team has a better RB room. Cook looks ready to explode, Harris and Murray bring great veteran presence. Only question marks in my mind are the MLB hole (which I think makes less of an impact than many here do) and whether Von comes back at full strength. It’s the best Bills roster in the McBeane era.

Disagree completely. The Bills’ trio of Cook, Harris, and Murray is probably in the top half of NFL RB rooms.

Added 1M of cap space and moved up a round. Not a huge haul but worth something…more than if they just cut him. At the end of the day just a bad pick/fit, but Beane is willing to move on…
