So you are saying it took more opportunity for McKenzie for folks to realize how bad he is? Accurate. But now all but a few people who still want to "get him in space" know that he sucks.
-
Before you invoke Chan any further..........Lil' Dummy is not even remotely close to a CJ Spiller type physical talent at his position........McKenzie is JAG. When Spiller was in Buffalo he was the most physically gifted player on the offense so Gailey was truly compelled to make it work. And after Dummy played such a HUGE role in nearly single-handedly costing the team a win in KC and of course running out the clock in Miami...........I don't blame Dorsey for not going out of his way to find touches for that dunce.

Gabe Davis is a 2023 Captain...let the board erupt!
BADOLBILZ replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's a hard working overachiever and a good guy...........I don't see any problem with it. Has nothing to do with the fact that he lacks the talent to get open on most routes and has bad hands. He doesn't insist they throw the ball to him.........it's on the organization to find ways to put him in better position to succeed..........which is as the clear WR3 or WR4 option. -
You are talking out of both sides of your mouth here...........you literally said a low 50's PFF level......which Edmunds had in his first 4 seasons........was "really bad" in McD's scheme. Now you are giving him credit for causing false starts? C'mon now. The reality is that his level of play worked in all of those seasons where he performed at a Kirksey-esque overall level............it wasn't "really bad"..........it was the defensive equivalent of Devin Singletary. Plenty adequate to win a SB with...........but Edmunds is like a RB with a good very ypa who just isn't a threat in the passing game. That's a legitimate disappointment for a mid-first round pick at a devalued position.
-
Which defense is slow not a problem in anymore? I haven't seen that one in the NFL in the last decade or so. "McD's defense" has been predicated on giving teams all of the short gains they want and hoping they make mistakes in execution. Edmunds was something of a failure in that role because he didn't cause offense's to make mistakes when the opportunities presented themselves. In your opinion low 50's PFF level performance from a MLB is "really bad"...........but that's all they got from Edmunds for 4 seasons and he was never the reason they didn't reach a SB.
-
It's not amazing if you follow the NFL closely enough to realize that MLB is probably the least important position in an NFL defense anymore. Just like a RB might get the most touches of any offensive player...........a MLB might make the most tackles..........but neither are winning games for you.
-
If healthy.........I absolutely agree. And at league minimum versus $18M aav........sign me up for that.
-
Well, the 2020 and 2021 teams went further than the 2022 Bills did and that was with Edmunds playing low 50's grade MLB. I know there are still people out there......perhaps like yourself......who think you need a star RB.........and MLB's have always mirrored the RB position in terms of importance so some people think that's just as important as a star RB. But the reality CLEARLY does not align with that old school thinking.
-
The vague complaints about the Bills not knowing "how to use McKenzie correctly" were always .
-
Nice attempt at a straw man. Edmunds got paid $18M per year because he was a legit top 5 MLB last year. Which I said in the post you replied to. Prior to that.......he was a lot of hype and not much actual excellent play. What teams have traditionally gotten from Kirksey when healthy is low 50's PFF grade MLB play.........about the same as Edmunds before his huge outlier of a season with a near 80 grade in 2022. Personally, I would not be the least bit surprised to hear that the Bears are underwhelmed with Edmunds lack of playmaking and for him to be back with Buffalo in 2025 when his dead cap is only around $4M. Eberflus is used to LB's that make a lot of plays on the football in his scheme and Edmunds has just never shown even a spark of potential in that regard.
-
Yeah I've seen some of your posts while @eball was in hiding this past offseason.......after he produced TSW's worst offseason takes of 2022. Coincidentally, @eballwas a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder for "a very long time". He quit out of frustration when they hired McDermott. Still cracks me up.
-
Yeah he's fine. We endured a lot of years of being told how good Tremaine Edmunds REALLY was when he was actually a pretty pedestrian producer at MLB in a HOF MLB's body. And the defense was stout nonetheless. Last year Edmunds finally played like a top 5 MLB for the first time so you can't expect to find that level of MLB play off the street for minimum wage at the end of August..........but if Kirksey(or any of the options) play OK it really confirms what many people believe.........that MLB isn't a position you need an impact player/1st round pick/$18M per year aav player at to have a top defense. Eagles seem to agree and Howie Roseman is at the top of the game so there is that as well.
-
$13.3M in cap space is much more than enough to sign a QB to a long term $50M/year extension..........let alone a little $30M aav deal for a young edge rusher.........because a LONG extension can start with small $5M type cap hits in the first couple of seasons. The Bills started out this offseason $20M OVER the cap and yet they added over $40M in aav's to the payroll to this year between the Oliver extension, McGovern, Sharty and Floyd........they just pushed a lot of that cap debt into the future. Bosa is an absolute superstar. I hope Miami isn't in on him but I suspect they would be on the very short list of places Bosa would agree to sign with.
-
You all saw one game each.........just one........from Gabe and McKenzie and assumed that they just needed more opportunity. That's not optimism that's delusional. Two weeks before his 4 TD game in KC Gabe had one of the worst showings by a Bills receiver in recent memory with just 3 catches on 14 targets game against the Jets. And McKenzie had proven over and over that the only thing harder than his hands was his head. It wasn't pessimism to expect that those players would continue to be what they had always been.
-
Yep but it's that lack of impact players that has prevented them from either being a #1 seed or from reaching the SB. They had a nice setup in 2021 blowing up a wounded Chiefs defense and with very beatable Cinci and LA Rams teams on the playoff horizon...........but the bar got raised at the top of the league last year and seems to set maybe even a little higher. Probably need Allen to elevate his game as a pocket QB even further and guys like Kincaid and Rousseau to really turn into impact players to expect to reach and/or win a SB.
-
Yeah but he's worth a lot more in trade if they send him somewhere he wants to go that will give him the contract he wants. Nick Bosa is the kind of player you give a 7 year contract to...........so people who assume that the cap hit will be a detriment aren't taking into account that his deal will be heavily backloaded and his first couple years cap hits could be pretty minor. It's not like he will have to settle for a team that can absorb a big 2023/2024 cap hit. The thing is though...........half price still only gets you 1 star player back. Teams that push cap debt like the Saints or now the Bills to some extend........they can get the same effect by manipulating the cap. I suspect that deal would blow up in Cinci in a few years because I wouldn't trust Mike Brown to not use more of a "cash to the cap" type system. Burrow would be dumb to do that. I have seen more evidence of willingness to sacrifice earnings from Ralph C. Wilson Jr. than Mike Brown........and it's not close.
-
Brady sorta' did that. The numbers were lower but the cap % was still significant. Just depends on the owner. Not sure I would trust Mike Brown to put the money back into the talent. And $25M gets them back 1 star player. The Bengals did get Logan Wilson back on a great contract though.
-
I'm sure they'd prefer to trade him to Houston............the potential for picks earlier in rounds...........but again, Bosa would have to agree to sign with the team in order for San Fran to get anything good. I get the Demeco Ryans connection but the Texans are losers with a dubious management structure per @GunnerBill. The Dolphins might be willing to swap Jaelan Phillips+ for Bosa and get a deal done and both players end up back in their home states.
-
I think they would prioritize Bosa over those players mentioned, to be honest. And coincidentally, extension talks between Wilkins and the Dolphins have stalled but they locked up his running mate at the other DT for around $10M aav a couple days ago.🤔 Wilkins is probably asking for around $25M aav himself............I mean he's a ball grabbing SOB but the dude made an insane 98 tackles from the DT position last year..........he is one of the 5 most productive DL in the NFL. Maybe they move on from Wilkins to make a salary slot for Bosa. Bosa might take $30M aav on a longer term deal to come home(worth a bit more in a no state income tax state like Florida instead of CA).........and as an edge rusher instead of an interior DL the Dolphins might be willing to go longer on his contract than they would a DT........which would provide lower cap hits early on.
-
They only have 5 playable WR and maybe 4 playable LB's plus Matakevich...........so I think they could easily carry 10 on the OL while developing Van Demark and Anderson on the 53.
-
Bosa would have to want to sign with the team they trade him to in order for San Francisco to get a good return. That would point to Miami. His dad was a first round bust for the Dolphins.......his uncle is Eric Kumerow the former Dolphins LB...........and Nick and Joey were raised in Miami. That's home for the Bosa family.

2023 Yankees thread.........Domingo German pitches perfect game
BADOLBILZ replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in Off the Wall
Yanks release Josh Donaldson and put Masterson Bader on irrevocable waivers. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/mlb/article-12459099/Yankees-waive-Harrison-Bader-release-Josh-Donaldson.html Two of Cashman's worst player evaluations.......he was like "You thought we couldn't hit right handed pitching in 2021? Hold my beer I got some trades to make...". Hopefully we see some more prospects up. How I'd prioritize them: 1. Jasson Dominguez OF switch hit 2. Austin Wells C lefty bat 3. Estevan Florial OF lefty bat 4. "Uncle" Ben Rice C lefty bat They will probably go Wells first if they bring just one of them up as the roster expands 2 spots. But Dominguez is red hot. Now is the time to get him some at bats. On a positive note tonight.......nice start from Mike Cocaine.........2 ER in 8.1 innings as a starter now........maybe he has a future at the back end of the rotation next year..........and great long relief from Johnny Burrito. Filthy stuff from Johnny B. -
I believe the decisions are collaborative but that McD has the most authority and therefore the final say if he chooses. But I also think that McD relies on the scouts and Beane to narrow the field of prospects and pro personnel greatly and has to give them the benefit of the doubt more often than not. So if their recommendations are poor.........the end result is poor. Ultimately I think they are tied together and if one goes they both do.........but if only one stays it would be McD and he would choose his next GM.

Speculation and discussion on Bills final roster cuts
BADOLBILZ replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Anderson played some RT versus Chicago on Saturday. As did Ryan Van Demark. David Edwards was a college RT. Bates was a LT in college and can be a backup at the tackle spots. -
The conferences......and some of the divisions.......are heavily imbalanced. Not implausible that multiple teams with losing records make the playoffs this year while an 11 win team does not. One thing is fairly certain.......some of the divisions are going to be true battles. The AFC East perhaps the toughest. So "deserve" may be a relative term with regard to making the playoffs. 11-6 might not get it done if that includes a .500 or worse record in division or conference.
