  1. I would love this signing. He had a great 2015 with 1000 yards and 9 TD's. Even though he came back to Earth in 2016 he was still dam productive with 55 catches and around 600 yards if I am not mistaken. Grabbing him would allow the Bills to run more two TE sets and have a viable backup for Clay. Having a second capable TE would also allow the Bills to mask a weakness on their offense as it would allow the team to use less receivers a position the team is not very deep at.
  2. Plus too I am sure they have write offs that can offset parts of those salary commitments. On top of that the Bills and Sabers are toys for them. They really are just putting money into something for fun as opposed to running it like a traditional business.
  3. Makes sense since I don't see any major free agents on the Bills roster. Preston Brown and Cyrus are the only other significant expiring contracts on the Bills roster and neither one are can't lose players and both seem to be players that could be resigned if the Bills need them to. So if Sammy goes off and has a career year they can franchise him and work out a long term deal. Whereas if they picked up his option and Sammy gets another major injury the Bills will be locked into 13 million for Sammy with zero flexibility.
  4. Let's be honest it is also about having the right environment to develop a QB. Prescott and Russell Wilson were drafted to pretty stacked teams that were able to play to their strenghts and mask their weaknesses. Prescott was gifted a great O-line, a beastly running back, and a defense that had a great year, his rookie year success could come down. Russell Wilson was drafted to a team that had a very good O-line at that time, a Hall of Fame running back in Lynch, and an all time great defense. Wilson has since matured into a great player as ironically the talent around him has dipped he has gotten better as a player. Derek Carr was the only player drafted into a **** situation that turned it around and developed into a very good player with a lot of potential. So I am curious how much of it is the player and how much of it is the situation. Would Big Ben been a great player had he been drafted by the Bills? I don't know if he would have developed into the same player honestly. I hope that the Bills do turn it around as an organization. I think Tyrod can be a QB that gets you to the playoffs but I am not sure how much he elevates a offenses talent. Honestly it might be a combination of right player, right place, right time in a lot of circumstances which is why finding QB's is so hard.
  5. That's more of a 70 yard pass and he got a hell of a running start. Not saying it isn't impressive but it's unlikely that he is going to be able to do that in games since the conditions that he threw that pass in are unlikely to manifest themselves in a game. JaMarcus Russell had a monster arm that a lot of pundits said was as strong as any QB ever and a lot of QB's can throw the ball huge distances but having a cannon arm is only one aspect of being a QB. Mahomes could be a great QB he certainly is in the right situation in KC where he can sit behind Alex Smith for a season or two but he also was riddled with question marks and has a lot of issues which made him a less than appealing prospect that fell to pick 10 despite being in a premium position in the league. Time will tell but I liked what the Bills got.
  6. In my mind the Bills came in with the following needs. CB 2 Nickel CB WR 2 WR 3 OLB RT Safety The Bills first three picks are looking to fill needs at RT, CB2, and WR2. Not only did the Bills get those three positions of need but they also added an extra 1st round pick next year. Even though they only have a handful of picks remaining I think the team in terms of philsophy, player value relative to perception, and setting themselves up for the future did a great job in this draft. They got 3 players at fairly good value in 3 positions of significant need all while pocketing a future 1st round pick. Now who knows how these three players will actually play and how much they can and will contribute for this upcoming season. But it is clear that the people doing the drafting know where the weaknesses on the roster are and brought in players to sure up those weaknesses while not really reaching.
  7. Would be a very good pickup for the Bills, not just because he was a diamond in the rough for my 2015 fantasy team but because the Bills need a quality second tight end and Barnidge is a pretty good option in my mind. He had a 1000 yard 9 TD performance in 2015 which was an insane year. But even though in 2016 he came down to Earth he still put up more than serviceable numbers for an abysmal Browns team with a pathetic QB situation. 55 catches and 600 plus yards on that team in that situation is pretty good. He had better numbers than Clay had last year if you want to put it into context. Barnidge and Clay would make a formidable combo that would take a lot of pressure off of the thin WR core and sure up depth at a position the Bills have very little at.
  8. Yeah the turnover since 2014 has been huge, there isn't much reason to think that the defense will resemble 2014. But hopefully the D-line and the newer additions step up. Dareus, Hughes, Kyle, Shaq, Washington, and company could make for a very deep formidable unit. If Brown can find a way to return to being a capable starter and Lorax and Ragland fit well in the scheme then I don't see why the LB core won't be productive. The Secondary is a bit of a question mark even with White being added. Darby, Hyde, and now White are the only 3 that you can have confidence in and 1 is a rookie. If Seymour and the other less known players can contribute then the defense stands a chance. I suspect one of those third round picks will be invested into the secondary if not both 3rd rounders.
  9. WR or Safety makes the most sense from a need perspective. I think the Bills can find a LB in round 3. Even with White added the secondary could still use another player.
  10. It's a sugar high for Chief's fans, they didn't give up a lot in this years draft. A late 3rd to move up to pick 10. But the cost in terms of dumping out future picks was pretty steep The Bills took a plummet but they pocketed a 3rd in a deep draft class and they stashed a huge 1st round pick in next years draft. At pick 27 the Bills managed to get a very good player that filled a need they have 2 third round picks and their 2nd to go to work with and they pocketed a 1st that even if it is a late 1st (which with how up and down KC can be I am not so sure that is likely) provides McD a good piece to build the teams future. I love the move for the Bills. For the Chiefs it is a gamble but one that will payoff if they found their QB of the future. I don't always think trades have a winner or loser every single time, sometimes trades are mutually beneficial. Personally I don't think that the Chiefs did well in this trade. Mahomes isn't a guy that I would give up 2 first round picks and 3rd for. But the Chiefs have the luxury of being able to groom Mahomes for a year or two which might help out his development.
  11. They need to move down desperately. They simply have too many needs to be covered by their top 2-3 picks. If they can trade down and acquire another pick in round 2 plus maybe another mid round pick the Bills would have a much better chance at filling the litany of needs they have. I feel as though they need 2 players in the secondary and 2 at WR. They also have needs at RT and Linebacker. Getting more picks even in 1-2 trade downs won't help solve all of those issues but a trade down could help the Bills solve more of those issues.
  12. Sports and the NFL are a meritocracy. No team is playing the owners nephew unless he happens to be a very good player. So when it comes to a racial divide at certain positions I think the problem is either non-existent or massively overblown. Teams aren't playing white guys at corner back because they aren't very good at that position, if a white player was good at that position teams would play them. In a high stakes zero sum game with definitive outcomes teams aren't messing around caring about race and such.
  13. I would rather they trade down, not sure if LB is that huge of a need but it would be more palatable to take one if it was around pick 20 and the team got a extra 2nd round pick in the process. Right now I feel that WR and Secondary are the two most pressing areas of need. Outside of Darby and Hyde the team doesn't have much talent in the secondary and in McD's defense last season you saw just how ****ty the defense plays with a lack of secondary talent. I would much rather draft a linebacker in round 3-5 and go after the more pressing areas of need in rounds 1-2.
  14. Maybe it was an LA Fitness in another city?
  15. Makes sense that it would happen after the draft if it is going to happen. The current scouting staff and player management end can't be replaced before the draft process. But after Undrafted free agents are signed once 90% of the personnel decisions have been made things will be much easier to overhaul. I don't think Whaley has done a bad job but he hasn't done a good one either. Hopefully the Bills faith in Doug McD is well placed.
  16. It will be interesting to see if Alabama continues to produce injury prone players that if NFL teams continue to draft those players so high. If NFL teams draft Alabama players lower based on wear and tear if will be interesting to see if high end recruits still end up going to Alabama knowing that going to that school will mean lower draft positioning even if they execute and do well. Or will Alabama readjust their injury management systems to help ensure the longer term health of their players. Alabama has to remember that recruits are most attracted by places where they will have a path to be drafted the highest. If going to Alabama carries a reputation of long term durability concerns which results in a lower draft status then it is likely high end recruits might shy away from Alabama once such a reputation is earned.
  17. The thing is if Trubisky falls to number 10 isn't that a sign that teams don't covet him enough to make a huge Wentz like trade up? If Houston is in love with him and they want to do a trade up I don't think you are getting their 2nd this year plus their 1st next year. A more realistic trade down would probably look like Houston's 25th, their 2nd this year, plus Cleveland's 4th this year, and their 4th next year for Trubisky/Pick 10. The Bills can fill a lot of needs at pick 25 then circle back in the 2nd round with 2 picks and add the 1st pick of the 4th round a round where the Bills currently don't have a pick. The Bills also stash a 4th next year to sweeten the deal. That would be a good trade for both sides but I don't see that coming to fruition.
  18. We will see exactly what the Browns do with all of that cap space and draft choices. They had two massive trade downs this decade that allotted them draft picks that they really didn't do a lot with. The trade downs for Juilo Jones and Sammy might have been the right deals in theory but the Browns just didn't produce the players from those additional picks. Now with the Wentz trade downs and all of their other maneuvers they have another treasure trove of picks but what exactly will it manifest into? Good on paper don't always pan out. The Browns are still a mess as they just keep rolling over cap space with no real results and their allotment of draft picks while great isn't a guarantee. So I will wait and see just exactly how well the Browns do in the upcoming draft before I call their strategy successful.
  19. The team gets a 5th rounder if they don't match. I am not too disappointed by this. Either way the team retains a player or they get value in the form of a draft pick back for him.
  20. Tyrod being a decent starting QB and locked in for the next couple of seasons affords the Bills a semi-luxery of having some time to develop a QB behind a decent starter. I don't think there is a QB worth taking at pick 10 but I wouldn't mind them taking a flyer on Chad Kelly in the late rounds. The Team can hold 2 project QB's on the roster and try and hit lightening in a bottle on one of them and see who after a couple of years is worth it.
  21. I would love for the Bills to engineer a couple of trade downs picking up and extra 2nd, 3rd, and maybe even 4th or 5th round pick. Only thing is it take two to tango, what prospect could fall to 10 that a team in the 20ish range would want to trade up for him desperately? Then what other prospect could be coveted around the 20 range that a team in the back end of the 1st or early 2nd round would want to make a trade up? Things have to line up and I am not sure they will. But even one trade down to pick up extra picks would be great since the team has a lot of needs and not enough draft picks to fill those needs at the moment.
  22. His mechanics and accuracy aren't very good, granted you can work on those things to a degree but it's not as teachable as many scouts use to think. Hopefully they can give him 2 more years to working within the system and work on the basics of accuracy and mechanics.
  23. I wouldn't mind seeing the Bills burn a late round pick on Kelly. His off field issues are a bit over blown and speak more him being a bit immature and entitled as opposed to him having deep personal demons or being in with the wrong crowd. He has had some injuries but his talent level is good enough to where a 6th or 7th round pick would be a good enough pick to throw out at him to see if he can sit and develop for a couple of years. I know the team has Jones as a project QB occupying the 3rd spot but having another one is never a bad idea esp when you are spending such a late round pick on him. Kelly could also be placed on IR his rookie year and allowed to rehab his injuries and get comfortable with the system and the organization. I really wouldn't mind seeing Kelly but anything more than a 6th rounder wouldn't be worth it. Honestly do think that he will be undrafted for some reason.
  24. Not a big fan of the team letting him go, at worst he would be great depth at dime back. I know that he is short for his position but a lot of advanced metrics seem to have graded him out above average for his position. Considering that he was under a very reasonable contract and his performance wasn't at all bad I thought it was a very foolish move to let him go esp considering the general lack of depth the team has at that position.
  25. I would definitely put Tyrod over Wentz and Bradford. Wentz is still developing and Bradford stinks. So even pessimistically I would put Tyrod at #19 and I think you could argue he is better than Cousins, Flacco, Tanny, and Dak but you could also make a good argument he is worse than all 4. So realistically I would slot him in the range of 19-15 depending how how you would rate those other QB's. Considering his contract that's not a bad place for the Bills to be. Hopefully with better coaching and some good additions via the draft the Bills can build a good enough team around him to make the playoffs while having a couple of seasons to work on grooming future options at QB.
