Searcy Watch--update signs with Tenny
billsfan89 replied to RyanC883's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard that the Colts might be making a run at him with a few other teams in the mix. Searcy is looking for starter money (4-5 million a year) with some guarantee. I am not sure the Bills could offer that kind of money given the needs on offense and the resigning of Hughes. I would love to see him return but in the age of the cap you can't keep everyone (Searcy was rated the 18th best safety according to the metrics and by the eye test that isn't too far off). I think a team is going to get a solid player at a reasonable price for Searcy. -
Vikings FB Jerome Felton -update:Bills signed
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn't Felton AP's lead blocker for his 2000 yard season? It would make sense that if this team is going to ground and pound that they have a big time fullback. It would be a nice small move for the offense. -
Thomas who had injury issues early on in his career is cashing in on a good contract and a big guarantee. The Jags had money to spend and they got a talented player.

Are we we in store for a big splash in FA
billsfan89 replied to JTown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we can expect another signing of significance. Most likely on the offensive side of the ball. But McCoy and keeping Hughes were already pretty huge moves. -
Would make sense for Fitz to reunite with Chan. Jets need a veteran option at QB.
-
Having a kickoff specialist seems like a dumb idea on the surface but having someone who can get touch backs consistently and save Carpenters leg (Something that he said helped him kick longer field goals as his leg was fresh) is a good thing and probably can provide more value than a position player that would have been player number 53.

Jets, Bills to pursue Revis (Update-Signed with Jets)
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Revis will sign here. Its either a return to the Jets for a dump truck full of money or a deal with New England for a good but more reasonable contract (Probably 12ish million a year with a nice guarantee). I don't think the numbers align to sign Revis and extend Dareus and possibly Gilmore as well as make other moves this off-season. -
Rex has capable corners and will hope Gilmore will develop into a poor mans version of Revis. With Hughes, McCoy, Cassel, and Incognito in the fold I don't think Revis will fit under the cap even if you don't make any more significant signings in free agency. Revis will likely command 15+ million a year and while I think he is worth it the math just doesn't make sense and would leave a lot of holes on the offense (Even if you draft a guard in round 2) and hamper the depth of the defense.

I would spend a nice chunk of change on a guard 5-7 million don't go super crazy like 8.5 for Iupati but getting a good starting caliber guard would round out the O-line as I think Kujo or Henderson would be capable to handle the RT position and we can draft a backup interior linemen in the third for depth and be a fall back if Incognito flames out. My other big move would be to go after Vince Wilfork maybe a deal in the 5-6 million range if that could get it done. If you want to build a bully having a very good NT with a mean streak will get that done. Imagine a front 5 of Hughes-Dareus-Wilfrok-Kyle-Mario that would be sick. If Wilfork is too pricey or doesn't want to come here then go after a tight end or a big redzone WR. A couple of minor moves would be to sign a MLB similar to the role Spikes had and try to resign Searcy (If his price tag is reasonable) depth along the defense is key. With a second round pick I would go after a Tight end or a WR adding more weapons to the offense is always a good idea. I think with Freddie (sadly), Urbik, and Williams all possible cuts does free up enough cap space to make these moves possible.

What's all this talk about a #2 receiver need?
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think your view of a need for a number 2 WR stems from your view of Wood's talent. If you don't think Woods is capable of handling that role than there really isn't a need there. But if you think Woods is more so a slot receiver and Hogan a spread WR/backup then adding a WR maybe necessary. I honestly think if the team can add a tight end who is a big target in the redzone then they will be fine just adding a capable slot receiver to compete with Hogan at the slot. -
Fred Jackson cut??(UPDATE: Pegula says Hell To The No)
billsfan89 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know why the Bills wouldn't at least bring Freddie into camp? The guy was productive last year and is very versatile, it would make sense to try and keep him for training camp to see exactly what he has left. -
Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A bit of an overpay but the guy is a huge part of the defense and young enough that he should be in the fold for the next few seasons. Love the move as it shows aggressiveness in competing now and its not a dramatic overpay. Also the type of deal proves that cash to cap is gone. -
Compensation Picks for Byrd/Others Lost in 2014??
billsfan89 replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The system for compensatory picks is messed up. Its logic of simply counting bodies without context doesn't make for a rational system. Losing a player like Byrd to a huge contract without signing a similar player salary wise should yield you a pick of some sort. I think they need to rework the system to factor in context of players signing. -
Andre Johnson as big receiving option instead of TE?
billsfan89 replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Johnson is going to want to play for no QB again. I think Johnson is going to want to play for a contender with a QB. -
Bilal Powell RB Jets- Leaning towards Buff
billsfan89 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they want to have competition at the running back position. Brown, Booby, and Freddie would all be on the bubble if they brought in Powell which might push each guy to preform better. As long as Powell doesn't get any guaranteed money I have no issue with it. -
Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Hughes wants a big guarantee from Buffalo even if the year by year value is a little lower. More guaranteed is always better in the NFL and with Dareus, Mario, and Kyle he gets to play in the successful scheme which will help him insure he collects the non-guaranteed money. -
Bills, McCoy agree on new 5-yr contract
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently we could be seeing a 10 million dollar increase in the cap each year for the next two years. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/07/cap-could-hit-160-million-in-2016/ -
Jets, Bills to pursue Revis (Update-Signed with Jets)
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see the Bills going after Revis. Just hard to see the team going in that direction. I don't think its impossible as Rex's schemes require really good corners (Rex's best Jets team had Revis and Chromartie as shut down corners). But with Gilmore, Graham, and McKelvin as the top 3 with Robey as the dime back its hard to see them needing anything more than depth either a low key signing or a mid to late round pick. Keeping Hughes (and depth at LB) and adding to the offense seems like a more pressing need. -
Bills, McCoy agree on new 5-yr contract
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You had to know that they were going to give into McCoy's demands (You know they weren't going to make the trade unless they were willing to) a win win, it keeps him happy and it lowers his cap hit this season. -
Suh is probably regarded as the best defensive free agent in 20 years and with good reason. The sweepstakes should be very intriguing. Will a team like Oakland come in and give an absurd 25 million dollar a year offer? Or will he take a 20 million dollar offer to go to a better team? As far as Miami's chances they have been very active in free agency historically so who knows. But I would say anywhere from 10-15 teams are likely giving him offers.

Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team let Byrd walk last year and the defense was fine and this year not having his contract on the books is a good thing. Levitre got a ludicrous deal from the Titans and the team couldn't match or come close to that offer. The team didn't replace Levitre properly but not tying up that kind of resources to a guard of his caliber (Good but not top 3-4 at his position) was a smart move. So letting Spiller who was ineffective most of the time walk is a good thing. The Kiko trade might not work out but at least the offense got much more dynamic with McCoy and Kiko might have asked out of Buffalo anyway. There is a lot of value in knowing who to let walk and who to bring in. Hopefully the team makes the right call on just how much Hughes is worth. -
Good Grantland breakdownof compelling free agents
billsfan89 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually would like the team to bring in Morgan if Hughes is too expensive for the Bills tastes. Morgan reminds me a lot of what Hughes use to be when he was in Indy (A talented player not in the right role). Of course I don't know if Morgan is a fit for the Rex Ryan system but if the staff feels like he is I think it would be smart to go after him. Playing next to the talent on the defensive line helps any edge rusher and is likely why Hughes turned his career around. Morgan on a solid 2 year deal could fill the hole Hughes possibly leaves. -
Sanchez in talks to return to Eagles - update: signed
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes sense for Sanchez to take another one year deal with the Eagles. They made him look pretty competent and improved his stock last year but not to the point where a team is going to give him a starting job. The Eagles will probably get him for 5-7 million one year small guarantee. Sanchez should have a good shot at being the Eagles QB. 1- If they can't swing a trade and Foles is there Sanchez will get a shot to overtake Foles 2- If they do get Mariota Sanchez still has a shot to overtake the rookie if in camp and preseason Mariota struggles (Also Chip being a college guy might want to sit him a year anyway). -
BREAKING NEWS: Hairston not tendered
billsfan89 replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Too much of a log jam at the position with Kujo although I wouldn't have minded bringing him into camp. -
The Jets made a smart move. A bit of an overpay esp in the guaranteed money but keeping Harris even spending a little more than you have to is a good move considering how important Harris is to that defense and the cap space the Jets have and need to spend. With the Harris resigning and the Brandon Marshall trade the Jets are off to a very nice off-season.
