  1. Schwartz left the team fairly recently and relatively later in the process. The guy was probably taking some time off to weight his options. He got hired by the Bills after two losing seasons in Detroit. You don't think after coordination of a top 5 defense has raised his stock somewhat? Maybe the only issue is that a lot of teams don't run the wide 9. But if a team is running a 4-3 it shouldn't be much of a change to run the wide 9. Either way expect to hear about the guy getting interviews later this week. I can't imagine a team wouldn't want him.
  2. I suspect with the Bills defensive mind you will see the Bills be much more conservative than the Jets. Although I do think the Jets will play to not turn the ball over Chan always seems to be more aggressive with Screens and short/medium passes down the field. So I think the Jets will produce better numbers but a lot more turnovers. I do think the Jets with their first round pick being so high and their huge cap space could make more moves to upgrade the offense. Getting CJ as a Darren Sproles type, signing a good WR, and drafting a QB or offensive player high could really improve their offense. The Bills could upgrade guard and tight end but QB is a lot harder to deal with without a high draft pick.
  3. Makes sense. The Jets have Ivory who is the between the tackles guy, Johnson is a bust at this point of his career and will be out of the league this or next year. The Jets could use a affordable offensive playmaker in the Darren Sproles mold. CJ wouldn't need to be an every down back with Ivory there. Chan used him well in the past. The Jets also have a lot of cap space a 3 year 9-12 million dollar offer would be easy for the Jets to offer. I see it as a good fit for both parties. The Jets have Harvin, Decker, Amoro, and Ivory, adding CJ and another reciever would really round out their core well.
  4. The problem is QB development. A rookie QB drafted in rounds 1 or 2 is expected to start right away. When they don't have success year one they get booted or their job becomes subject to removal. A QB like EJ should have been put behind a veteran QB like Orton for the first two or three years of his career. Then he should have been given two years to start no matter what and then judge his career. Asking a kid straight out of college to come in and lead an NFL team is a crazy proposition. Yet that's what happens because its win yesterday in the NFL. Coaches can get fired after just one year and they don't have time to really put 5 years to try and develop a QB. I am not saying the EJ or any bust QB would have been a MVP or franchise type QB with that type of development but I think you would give a lot of guys more of a chance to develop if teams were much more willing to develop a QB properly.
  5. There are a lot of trades in NFL history that look bad. A lot of the time its because veteran players don't get equal value. There are a lot of Lynch for a 4th round pick or Hughes for Sheppard type trades out there.
  6. It might be too late in the game for Marrone to get a college job (Recruiting is already on the way) so he might just sit back and collect that 4 million and try to pry a college job next year.
  7. No way the Redskins take RGIII for EJ straight up. EJ hasn't proven anything in the NFL, while RGIII had a rookie year for the ages. So I doubt the Skins would give up on RGIII for a QB who has proven nothing.
  8. Iupati is gonna get more than that. Guards like Levitre get paid way more and Iupati is worth a big payday. I suspect Hughes will get less than 5-60 the market is flooded with pass rushers. But if that's the type of contact Iupati gets I would sign him over Hughes all day. JPP would be a better deal if we were trying to dish out a 5-60 type deal.
  9. Backloaded contracts are fools gold. Players have realized that the short term money is what counts. The money and the gaurantee in years 2-3 on long term deals is what really counts. Years 4-5 are usually pay as you go team options, anything beyond that is usually something the team will either not end up paying.
  10. Makes sense. A lot of older players and marginal free agents were complaining that they were getting edged out by college players. Giving them some outlet to showcase their skills before the start of free agency is a good idea. This will help a lot of 2-4 year players on the bubble of rosters stay on and help their careers. While more veteran players 10+ years in the league can go out and have a better opportunity to hang on.
  11. Good to see Pepper get a look. As much as I would want to keep the guy its hard to hold a guy back from a good opportunity. Selfishly I hope he doesn't get it because he is such a good coach but I would be happy for him if he got a good gig. Maybe after Fewell they will be sick of Buffalo coaches.
  12. Del Rio isn't a bad hire (Decent job turning around the Jags which has been something a lot of coaches are having a hard time doing now, and he did a good job with Denver's defense). But he isn't a very good hire either. Just a run of the mill mid level defensive coach. They should have taken a risk on a more up and coming coach as opposed to Del Rio
  13. Marrone got some bad advice from his agent. Marrone probably could have got a solid extension (Maybe 4 years 20+ million) from the Pegulas (Who seem to have very generous pockets). Instead he thought he could get a payout on this year plus get another 4 or 5 year contract offer to coach another team. Now it looks like he might have to build up his resume as a coordinator.
  14. Even if you project the defense to be top 5 the offense as currently constructed is bottom 5. Granted the team could retain a lot of its defensive talent and still make upgrades to the offense via free agency and the draft. So the off-season moves to retain defensive talent and add to the offense will be what determines if this team makes the playoffs.
  15. If the Bills don't trade for a big money QB I could see them putting a lot of money and a fairly high draft choice into the guard position.
  16. I would imagine some of the players playing in a similar system might be benifit Rex in trying to implement his defense. But the turnover between the 2013 and 2015 bills will be probably pretty big and two years is a long time in the NFL.
  17. There didn't seem to be too many injuries this season. Kiko was a freak occurance in the off-season, can't think of too many other devestating injuries to the team. One good thing Marrone did the past couple of seasons was modernize a lot of the aspects of the team. Ryan comes from a more progressive mold too so if he likes the staff I don't have a major issue with it.
  18. Murray would at the very least get a 6-8 million dollar a year deal on the open market with a significant gaurantee. The guy is able to catch the ball out of the backfield and a dam good between the tackles runner. I doubt that was the Cowboys offer. I understand that running backs are worth less due to the increased importance of the passing game. But an elite RB is still going to command more.
  19. I would have liked to have seen Schwartz implement some of his scheme into the Rex Ryan defense. In particular the secondary elements. But the wide 9 and the Rex Ryan 3-4 is about as far different as you can get. On paper it just looks like it won't be a fit, and Schwartz could get hired as a DC anywhere there is an opening.
  20. Peyton looked hurt the last month plus of the season. Just didn't look like the same guy. The guy will be 39 next season would be interesting to see if he could put together one more year. Denver might not be able to keep all their offensive free agents but if they could keep the team together for one more run I Would like to see Peyton give it a go for one more year.
  21. Kap's contract is a 15 million dollar cap hit. Not exactly sure I would trade our 2nd round pick and use up a lot of cap space to take on Kap. I would seriously think about trading for him esp if it was our 3rd round pick. Maybe get Mario's deal restructured to add some more cap space. If the team took on cap they probably would only have enough cap space to do much unless they don't resign Hughes.
  22. Teams area realizing that there really doesn't need to be that much of a sense of urgency. Waiting an extra week or two isn't going to hurt your ability to prepare for the season.
  23. I feel 12 is right at that sweet spot. Enough teams don't make it to feel elite but enough teams stay in the race where you have enough teams staying alive late in the season. The Bye weeks also keep the top teams jocking for position late into the season.
  24. I honestly hope the guy gets a head coaching job so he can ruin a different NFL team.
  25. A change of ownership opt-out was likely to be asked for by anyone that took the job. ESP someone like Marrone who had gotten other interviews. Any coach was going to want some sort of get out of jail free card so to speak. The odds of someone opting out after being offered an extension was so low.
