  1. In the off-season of 2013 the Bills handled their QB situation poorly. Kolb was signed as the veteran stop gap but the team probably should have been more aggressive in the market finding other options as far as having a pair of competent veteran QB's. Maybe had the team got a couple of Kyle Orton type QB's they would have been more comfortable at the position enough to not feel like they had to get a QB in the draft. The made an excellent trade down to pick up an extra 2nd round pick and they could have gotten a lot of talented players at pick 16. Instead the team felt compelled to reach for EJ since they needed a QB. EJ wasn't the right player and it wasn't the right time. EJ probably would have been best suited to play behind a talented veteran QB for 2-3 years. Learn the game slowly spend years working on footwork and mastering a system. EJ has the work ethic, the smarts, and the physical tools he just lacked the technique and footwork to be successful in the pros. Had he been in a good spot after being drafted maybe he could have worked out. But the Bills were not that spot, at best they maybe could have sat him for a year but they were forced to go with EJ early and the results showed.
  2. Getting Zach Brown back in the fold would set the team up well in the front 7. Ragland can anchor the MLB position and both Browns can flank him at the OLB spots with Lorax taking some snaps at OLB. The team wouldn't have to touch the front 7 this season with Brown back in the fold. I like that Preston is doing this, hopefully they are able to get Brown back at a good price.
  3. Free agency isn't over. The options dwindle by the day but there are still good players out there to be had that could fill needs for this team. The team made a smart move bringing back Taylor and made good moves in bringing in Hyde and resigning Lorax. The team is desperately thin at receiver and corner and could use a boost at RT and Safety. But the draft could provide some of those needs and the team can make a move or two in free agency to fill some of those needs. Hopefully the Bills keep active in the secondary market and have a good draft. The Bills are smart to not overpay but they would be stupid to leave glaring holes on the roster. Hopefully the rest of free agency shakes out positively.
  4. Seems like a good signing, certainly give the team something at the receiver position.
  5. With very few if any exceptions no matter what team you are, you are going to need at least a few players from your draft class to contribute if you hope to have a winning season. 30 or more teams go into each draft with 3 or more pressing needs at key positions. Right now the Bills have 5 to 7 pressing needs. They need 2 corners, 1 safety, and 2 receivers badly. Right tackle is probably also a weak spot on the roster and Outside linebacker if they let Zach Brown get away is also a spot of concern. Free agency still has viable options out there to fill at least some of those needs. Bringing back Zach Brown helps settle the front 7, there are options at corner available and Jarius Byrd could make for a nice buy low option at safety. Right now the Bills need to pounce on Zach Brown and sign some players available in the secondary because right now even if they found a good receiver and a good corner in the draft they still have too many pressing needs.
  6. Zach Brown would be nice to bring back as I think he rounds out our front 7 nicely. But from a pressing needs point of view the team desperately needs corner and receivers and maybe even a safety. Whoever the best corner on the market is that fits the defensive system best would be my bet. Ideally I think the team should bring back Zach Brown to set the front seven and then go after at least 2 players in the secondary where there are still deals to be had, on top of that the team desperately needs a slot receiver. I am fine with going receiver early but the team can have 5+ pressing needs at critical positions going into the draft.
  7. I would really like to keep Brown. Not at all costs. Ragland can be the MLB, Spikes anchored that spot in 2014 and I think Ragland is better than Spikes in a lot of ways. But at OLB I don't see much outside of Preston Brown. I am not sure where Lorax fits as I think he is best suited for DE same goes for Shaq. Having Both Browns flank Ragland is a pretty good LB core behind a very good defensive line. Zach Brown gives them a lot better coverage from the lineback position which could be lacking with Ragland and Preston Brown.
  8. Not a big loss, decent redzone target but I think that the team needed an upgrade at WR over what they had last year which was Hunter, Woods, and Goodwin.
  9. Good Depth signing, D-line appears to be uber deep with this addition and the resigning of Lorax. Would love for the team to bring back Zach Brown to round out the front 7 and steady the team at Linebacker. Then the team could maybe try to find a good corner or two before stocking up on offense at the draft.
  10. Would be a good replacement for Easley as a special teams ace.
  11. Hopefully the Bills can trade down from 10. Lots of needs on the roster and not enough draft picks to satisfy all those needs at the moment. Trading down and picking up an extra 2nd would be a great move if such a trade was available. Right now the best case scenario for the off-season would be for the Bills to sign another safety and a good nickle corner (Robey needs to be replaced), resign Zach Brown and then trade down in the draft to pick up an extra second round pick which would could then address CB, WR, and RT in the first two rounds with three picks and then draft another receiver or tight end in round 3. Hopefully they can accomplish addressing the secondary a bit more and resigning Zach Brown so that they don't have so many needs come the draft.
  12. I wouldn't mind bringing him back on a one year deal. At this point the Bills are desperate for safety help and the options are thinning by the minute. Byrd and Hyde would be a solid combo (Probably would need to find a depth option as well in there) and then they could focus on signing another corner.
  13. Not a bad deal at all, hopefully they can resign Zach Brown and really round out the front 7 nicely.
  14. No the Bills don't need to be one of the avenues that reintroduce him back to society, you don't have to try and erase him from history but you don't need to have him back in the fold. It reminds me of a story Louis CK told about when he was on the Chris Rock show circa 1995 or 1996 they were thinking about having OJ do a segment where Chris Rock was going to have OJ answer the one question everyone wanted to know and then Chris Rock would just ask him who he thought would win the MVP that year. OJ had apparently agreed to do it when the floated the idea over to him but Rock decided to pull back thinking that they didn't want to normalize OJ again.
  15. I love Stevie and on a minimum contract why not? But I wouldn't expect him to do much, but if it's a one year deal on the minimum I think you could do worse as competition for the bottom 2 WR spots. However if the team decides he is done and doesn't want him I am completely fine with it.
  16. I don't mind losing Woods and spending a high draft choice to replace him since Woods was not a top of the line player at best he was a low end #2 WR. But if the Bills are thinking about drafting a WR then they should spend money to fill in needs at other positions. If they want to draft a WR at 10 or in round 2 then they should spend money at RT and safety to take those needs off the board and fill out the roster overall. Problem is that the Bills in the past would never go out and improve other avenues of the roster instead tread water by trying to refill positions of recently departed good players.
  17. The Bills basically spread the guaranteed money across two seasons. This frees up 6 million in cap space for this off-season which is nice. But for Tyrod he basically gets a better shot at being here for 2 season which will further help him in his career while still getting his money. Smart move all around.
  18. I agree that LorAx might be a bit of good money after bad. His career year at age 33 is likely an anomaly and even if LorAx has a good year or two left he isn't going to be playing in the same system. So in addition to the fact that he might not produce the same way at his age you have to account that he is no longer in the same system that produced those results.
  19. A sub 2 million dollar contract for one year is the most I would give him. If the Bills could get him at 2 million or less I would honestly take it. It gives the team an option at safety that is far better than what the team has previously had in the past two seasons. He has been healthier the past two seasons but has had mixed levels of performance. Given the cost could be fairly cheap I wouldn't mind a return.
  20. The NFL isn't like the NBA, NHL, or MLB where you can sell off players for prospects and draft choices and short change your near future to rebuild for a long prosperous future. Very few players in the NFL command high draft picks. So it is not like the Bills can sell off a lot of players for a massive haul of draft picks. Even some of our "Most Tradable" players like Darby on cheap contracts will not get a very high return. So you either let a lot of talent go and not pursue free agents in the hopes of freeing up your cap in the next couple of years and getting a franchise QB with a high draft choice. I think when you have a solid QB in Tyrod, other talent on the roster, solid collection of draft choices, and some cap space to work with I think you are better trying to move upwards as opposed to scrapping the general direction of the team.
  21. If the Bills keep Tyrod (Which I want them to do) I don't want to see them spend a high draft choice on a QB. They have Jones who is a high upside developmental QB already a year in, they can spend a late pick on Kelly or some other developmental prospect. But it would be horribly wasteful to spend a pick in the first three rounds on a QB if Tyrod a proven effective starter is on the roster. Build the existing talent around the QB and stick to making the QB who has gone out there and proved it look better. Put Tyrod in a better position to have success with better talent around him or better talent on the defense. Allow Jones and a late round pick the chance to develop behind a proven starter.
  22. Seems like he is aiming for 15 million a year which I don't think he is worth. But as a in his prime and in a high demand position he might command something close to that maybe 12ish per year if not more. I don't think he is worth that at all if it comes down to something closer to 10 million per year then I think you would have to make some sort of offer.
  23. On a cheap 1 or 2 year deal yes, you could do worse for a 4th receiver, adds some punch and speed to the offense. Ted Ginn has done well for the Panthers offense 2 out of the last 3 seasons. If it costs anything significant to keep him then pass. But a sub 1 million dollar deal I Would seriously consider.
  24. I hope they keep Tyrod. I am fine with drafting a QB and keeping Tyrod. Tyrod is better than any QB the Bills can acquire this off-season via trade or free agency. Tyrod will be better this season than any QB the Bills can draft. Maybe draft Chad Kelly late and stick with developing him and Cardale while Tyrod holds down the position this year and next year (Probably would need to sign a decent back up if you weren't drafting a QB in rounds 1 or 2.) Right now I see no better option than Tyrod at QB for the Bills. Is Tyrod a franchise QB? No but his contract is affordable and not a long term commitment beyond next year and he is an above average QB who is good enough to win with a good supporting cast. The Bills can use the luxery of having a solid option at QB while picking their spot to have long term development at the QB position.
  25. I always feel like Whaley is better than he might actually be because he is so much better than the previous administration. Nix/Whaley was so much better than the Marv/Jauron era and the Donahue era (Although Wahley's recent struggles are dipping him into Donahue territory) that I think my standards are so low that someone doing a decent to below average job looks like sunshine and roses.
