RBs so rarely get second contracts that I’d be okay with them being paid more (again, maybe just for those taken in the first 3 rounds)

Theoretically, yes. However, the practical effect of Sanders missing training camp over this is that his potential impact on the Bills defense is greatly diminished. Unfortunately it is not linear. Missing time at the beginning of camp, even a week, will likely mean he will be relatively useless for at least the first half of the season. More than that, we will be definitely be talking about a wasted high second round pick. Sorry, but I am going to blame the player for that.
