  1. Past hour
  2. NFL teams carry 90 players during the preseason, but only about three running backs during the regular season. The Bills just gave James Cook a 4-year, $48M extension — he’s clearly been an effective player. They also gave Ty Johnson a 2-year, $5M deal, and Josh Allen has called him “the best third-down back in the league” multiple times. On top of that, they spent a 4th-round pick on Ray Davis last year, who stepped up big when Cook missed time (20 carries for 97 yards and 3 catches for 55 yards). None of those guys are going to see significant snaps in the last week of preseason. That leaves Frank Gore Jr. to take every carry — which obviously isn’t reasonable without another option in the room. So, what exactly do you expect the Bills to do when they need a body for just one week before roster cutdowns? Perhaps you'd like to see them trade for Christian McCaffrey?
  3. Lewis is a guy that I'm not really happy with anywhere at any level of the depth chart. But he's just barely solid enough to be 2nd/3rd string in a million spots that he sticks around. As a DB I think Ingram is a better overall prospect at what he does but he has less utility than Lewis. Also doesn't exactly fit the solution here. But again the problem is, Can Lewis sticks around because we haven't addressed the depth chart above him nearly well enough.
  4. I think Palmer will prove to be a good signing, health permitting. Coleman, Palmer, Shakir are the locked in top three. I think that, for whatever reason (maybe contract?), they still like Samuel, so he's probably WR4. That leaves two spots at most. Davis/Shavers or Shenault/Shavers have to be the betting favorites to claim those final two spots at this point.
  5. They wouldn’t; rolling over 7.34 into next year is worth more than a 5th rounder and a no production player
  6. Tough break for the kid. If he clears waivers, which is likely, he will go back on the team’s injured/reserve list. He cannot be designated to return to the roster this year but he would be eligible for the Bill’s practice squad once healthy and removed from the list. Or they may agree to a settlement and cut bait. He would then become an UFA. If they decide to keep him, the only change to his situation is that he cannot be promoted to the active roster this year, say late in the season in the event of injury to starters. He was almost certainly headed to the PS anyway. Some observers said pre-draft that he should not have declared since he had another year of eligibility. The thinking was that he would have been better served to access the transfer portal again and join a more prominent college program than Maryland’s. It’s a shame. The kid has traits.
  7. But can he play Safety?
  8. Sooner rather than later, Bills will need to draft a QB. In the meantime, Trubisky behind the #1 OL is fine as a backup. Always tough on him to play behind the #2s in preseason.
  9. You're so close to getting it. You can do it!
  10. Given that he missed almost his whole rookie training camp IMO Bishop grew as a safety last year. Nothing splashy but the Bills had the tape to expect him to develop further and become a decent starter. That he has struggled again this pre-season with injuries is an issue that has frozen him in place. But he appears healthy now and if he can be a full go at practice the next 3 weeks I think we will all be pleasantly surprised with his play week 1. All the safety's, including Johnson, struggled against the pass late last season and in the playoffs. A contributing factor IMO was the lack of a reliable 4 man pass rush. Hopefully that has been addressed in the off season with all the additions. I would expect much better safety play against the pass when the QB is feeling the heat.
  11. I thought McDermott’s messages last night were poignant and delivered well. He’ll never be the most exciting public speaker but it seemed to me that he had everyone’s attention. I also laugh (once again) at those who think they “know” McD is boring or passionless. There’s no doubt he is encouraging his team to be aggressive and in attack mode all game long.
  12. I was hopeful of both he and Samuel, but it seems both need to be cut. This is two WR signings that don't appear to work out. I pray Palmer does or we only have 2 WR worth a damn on the roster
  13. Someone tells a lib something they don't want to hear, so they fling poo, stomp their feet & put their fingers in their ears. That's a winning debate strategy. And don't respond to my post, either.
  14. I'm not your buddy, guy!
  15. The safety position is definitely a complete disaster with Hamlin.
  16. Buddy ok? How about pal?
  17. My ex always said the D was too small
  18. He has full authority to deploy the national guard. Cry harder.
  19. I would emphasize your use of the word "judiciously." Count me as most definitely against the "throwing chairs through windows" theory of coaching. I've been watching the game for sixty years and I think the emotional speakers and dramatic actors wear out their schtick pretty fast. Once you throw one chair through a window what do you do next? Throw a sofa? Throw a baby? It becomes performance, and players see through that. Marv Levy was not a "throw chairs through windows" coach. He might express anger or frustration, but if you compare him to other head coaches he was way on the intellectual side, quoting Tacitus and poems to inspire his players. Look at the coaches who have been the most successful: Bill Walsh was way cerebral. Don Shula. Hell, even Belichick was more an strategic than an emotional leader. McDermott's psychological style tends more "cool" than "hot." Compare the culture of the team and locker room under him vs. that of his predecessor, the much more theatrical Rex Ryan. We'll see how the team responds after the Chicago fiasco.
  20. After which the Pats*** are awarded a 3rd round compensatory selection.
  21. Bills fans seem to have a vision of Moore that doesn't match the reality of his time here so far. All indications are that purely in terms of his camp and preseason contributions, he's been no better than a KJ Hamler or Jalen Virgil type. Very much a roster bubble guy. But because of his name recognition and the tantalizing "he could really BE something if he just gets a good QB!" factor, many act like he's a near roster lock and a playmaker that other teams would want to trade for. I don't see it. I think Moore is more likely to be cut than rostered at this point, and I don't think he'd fetch a penny of trade return. The most I think they could hope for would be a future late round pick swap (something like Moore and a 7th for a 6th in 2027), and even then I'd be surprised. All that said, I still think Gabe Davis would improve this WR room.
  22. He was solid against the run. He got much better against the run the more he played last year. But he was not solid in coverage. That has been a recurring problem.
  23. I consider this as fact. Do others of my same age agree? BOOM shacka lacka lacka YES MA'AM
