Game strategy continues to elude McD
Livinginthepast replied to WIDE LEFT's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is true but at least in man there's a chance that one of our slow or hesitant dbs will be within 5 yards of their receiver and therefore "theoretically" in position to break up the play. I dont expect them to intercept the pass but they can at least make a quick tackle. With the zone that we have been playing on key plays throughout the McD era, the opposing players are not only open, they catch the pass unopposed and in space, so the YAC is better. Our D doesnt seem to be the best at tackling and I think one of the reasons is we are so far off the receivers that when they catch it we dont have the angle for a tackle. -

The Upcoming Trade Deadline: 2025 Edition
Andrew Son replied to ryguy101's topic in The Stadium Wall
I generally agree with this. Should be an interesting trade deadline. I agree that our biggest current need is CB, but we hopefully have the long term answers on the team already so any addition there would be a one year rental IMO. I think WR makes the most sense for a high end trade target that would fit into our future plans. Beyond Shakir, I don't think anyone is locked in to being a key piece moving forward. I could see a swing for Olave. If we don't go that big maybe someone like Lockett. I agree, Dline is set unless we move someone. I think safety is going to end up fine. It looks bad now but I think it will improve as they get more reps together. Bishop seems to be coming on and Rapp has played well in the past, I think they will round into form. I don't think you just insert a new player into this position that is so dependent on familiarity with one another. LB is another position to watch. -
The Pirates were the Bisons' parent club for a bit. Cleveland same thing with a long time AAA affiliations. Both cities (PIT and CLE) are a pretty close/easy drive. Personally, I started as a fan of the Indians in 1985... I think as a 7 year old I thought they were the closest team. They were terrible and I was drawn to that. It has been the perfect companion MLB team to the Bills and Sabres. Red Sox... I think a lot of people were drawn into the who curse thing. And it is/was anti-Yankees Oh yeah, I know several Braves fans too... but they were so good for so long and also the old days of "Superstation TBS" carrying all of their games nationally.

Revisiting this point this after I watched The Bills Squad last night because Joe Marino had a stat that just blew me away from Sunday night's game... Now... This was what Marino said. I cannot speak to the validity and I have not confirmed anything... But... He said the Bills got NE into Base Defense on 14 downs Sunday night...14...and they passed it 2 times...2 times out of those 14 downs!!!! And the worse part of it is they got 43 yards on those 2 passes!!!! Take it for what you will... But I think what some of us have been saying all along about mixing in more passing vs stacked boxes, especially in the middle of the field, is the final key to this whole thing. Sometimes it feels like Brady and the Bills want to be the neighborhood bully and force a game of checkers out there when the kids want to play chess. It works when the kids in the neighborhood are too weak to stand up to you. But when a tougher kid shows up and forces us to play chess...It gets dicey...

Going to be a big week to get Ed back, and for our LBs to step up. Bijan is top priority, run game but hes also very dangerous in their pass game and used alot there. Then shut down Pitts. I'd lock Benford on London all game. If Penix beats us going to London, so be it. Just dont want to see Bijan picking up chunck yardage. Their defense can be ran on. But I suspect they react with bringing safeties down a lot. Need to see the field better and our OL can hold up in pass pro. Bills 33 Falcons 27 -
Return of the Tre! (Tre White signs with the Bills)
buffaloaggie replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I also have been surprised at his run support, but folks treating him as a whipping boy pales in comparison to offenses targeting whoever Tre covers. Injuries have obviously reduced his tread wear. He's not a starting caliber for the NFL, but Max's injury has exposed Tre's wear and tear again, and other teams know. -
Have you put in your application yet for a HC ing position in the NFL ? Sounds like you have much more experience & are smarter than those in that position you never know maybe some one in the NFL will see how smart you are and you could have a dream job and take a team to the big game . Just saying !!

Yeah... Someday I will be as mature as you. I am trying! 😜 And why didn't Buffalo get an MLB franchise in 1977? Why did the lose the Braves and Toronto pick up Raptors a decade later. We must of did something wrong?

So in summary, the Bills defense is a schematic mess. The three levels of the defense are utterly disconnected from each other in what they’re trying to do. And I’d even toss in the fourth level if you consider that our two safeties are playing so far back they’re close to being in the first row of the end zone. (Maybe they’ll catch a football back there and run up the stands on their way out of the stadium.) -

Lots of speculation on trades. Just not sure any of the top positions fans are talking about make sense. Cornerback is definitely a need (at this moment). But we just invested a big contract in Christian Benford and a 1st Round Pick in Maxwell Hairston. The big problem is that Hairston might not be able to help much this season, due to the injury and missed practice time. The only thing that makes sense is a one-year rental... and there is a good chance the coaching staff would be opposed to even that, if they feel it takes away from Hairston's development time. At Wide Receiver, Keon Coleman has shown growth, and isn't getting replaced anytime soon. We just invested in Khalil Shakir's extension. Beane has given decent contracts to Josh Palmer and Curtis Samuel, and neither is currently being used to their fullest potential. We also already know how Beane feels about the passing offense in general, after his comments in the offseason. He's not going to start throwing more Day 1-2 picks at WR, when he doesn't feel offense is a weak point on the team. Forget anything more on the D-Line. He added Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi, TJ Sanders, Landon Jackson and Deon Walker in the offseason. Some of those guys haven't even played yet. And the rookies will get a chance to develop. To me, the spot that makes the most sense is Safety. It's been a clear weakness on this defense. Taylor Rapp is not playing well, and has a history of being injury-prone. He's also got a potential out in his contract after this year.

Agreed. Part of the problem might also be schematic. Bills have been getting quick pressure, but if receivers aren't facing tight coverage, that doesn't help. The QB can always dump it quickly to an open receiver. If you want to have an aggressive defense, the corners need to be aggressive and play the receivers tight from the line. It might mean getting beat deep occasionally, but if it also leeds to turnovers and short possessions, you can live with that. Of course, it would help to have at least one corner with speed which is why Hairston is so important, and his injury is why you probably want at least one more. -

We are committed to following a load management strategy to be rested for the run to the Super Bowl that never happens. What does happen is we squander just enough games to not be first seed. Having said that , in the current season the abscence of a breakout team and an apparently soft remaining schedule leaves the bills in number 1 seed hunt.

I dont speak for Buffalo because I am on Lake Ontario but I'll take Toronto over NYC any day of the week. I think the love of the Yankees in this area has more to do with history and family traditions than it is a hate of Canada or the Blue Jays. I mean the Yankees had been around for 76 years before the Jays were even a franchise.
-
I don't think it's meant as real life hate as that would be nuts and whoever feels that way towards a rival sports team needs help. There is sports "hate" among rivals. Bills - Dolphins, Yankees - Red Sox, Michigan - Ohio State to name a few examples. The teams that fanbases want to beat the most and ruin their season. That type of thing.
