This is the problem.  Even if Benford plays, I expect Diggs to play the majority of his snaps in the slot.  Benford doesn’t really travel there, so it’ll be Taron and Cam in coverage.  McD had his work cut out for him.

McDermott has them all sitting at desks, studying playbooks for a system that must be half a step below advanced calculus.  Strong minds, yes, but strong bodies must also be cultivated.  Including feet.  Especially feet.  And maybe some heavy duty work boots with metatarsal protection.  Too many 'stepped on' injuries of late. 🤨

We saw Tee Higgins play with obvious scrambled brains last week. He gutted it out. We saw Justin Herbert grind it out 6 days after surgery and pins in his hand.  I think the Bills continue to play the long game more than most teams. Any tweak and the player is sitting out. If the playoffs were on the line i do think guys who are irreplaceable would be playing if they possibly can.

I agree, they need to be more creative around assignments and choosing to follow some receivers as Cam and Taron are matchups that teams have been exploiting just that way. One would think it would be as easy as saying, you guys cover the slow guys - I know it is more involved than that.

Also, if they are playing Bishop closer to the line and Hancock is playing more as the single high, he needs to be coached up to be decisive and roll coverage to the side with the hardest matchup to help out our corners.

At this stage he seems to be on the verge of indecision peddling back and forth covering grass till finally coming over too late to really cap those routes.

If you had asked me on Monday which defensive player was going to be key in the matchup against New England's offense, I would have said Benford.  I would have envisioned Benford following Diggs wherever he lines up, except perhaps in the slot.  I hope he's up to playing.  It is frustrating though seeing key  players getting hurt week after week this season.  Darnell Savage is primarily a safety, but can play some cornerback.

Belichick was the master at shutting down teams best players, double team Diggs at all times, let Maye beat you somewhere else, we should be hitting Diggs early and often to really get him off his game but I don't really think much of McDermott as a HC or a DC so Diggs will probably be a major factor once again unfortunately, I'd love to be wrong about this but I'm probably not.

Higgins was an absolute embarrassment for the Bengals franchise to play an injured player. If that’s the bench mark I’ll support the Bills on this. Benford if he can play will play.. I don’t think it’s a question of courage.

I'll be surprised if this isn't the case. That's not to say the Bills won't win, but Diggs will get big numbers. I can think of no one less deserving, either.

The usual game plan would be to double teams Diggs and rely on Benford and White/Hairston to hold up on the outside with minimum help. If Benford is out, then that becomes harder. So it does have an effect.
