Somehow Benford was snubbed for Rasul Douglas of all people.

They never give it to two players on the same team in the same week. Allen being a lock to get it meant Benford didn't have a chance.

Interesting that Benford didn't get defensive player of the week, but I know they don't like to give the offensive and defensive POTW to teammates and Benford just won it.  Our buddy Rasul got it for Miami, but his stats weren't as impressive

Douglas has quietly had a really good year for Miami. Bounced back from his efforts last year. Not sure what he did to earn PoW honors, but glad for him getting an early Christmas present.

I mean, against Burrow and Chase, Benford allowed 0 catches. Not as effective against Higgins, but still. Add the sack and game-changing pick-6, and I really don't see how Rasul was better.

The issue was probably that Allen was the obvious OPOW. They don’t like giving both awards to one team so the #2 choice got the DPOW award. Benford would have gotten the award if not for his offensive teammate’s exploits.

Rasul did have a good game.

But Benford, besides an overall solid game, made a play that entirely changed the trajectory of an important game with playoff implications.

It's a shame Josh's award precluded Benford from getting what he deserved.

Can’t have the Bills win 3 out of the last 4 o and D pow awards.

He could’ve if he hadn’t thrown two picks

I don't know that I even blame Burrow for either INT.  One was an incredible play by Benford who might make that play 1 out of 10 times and the other was a good play by Philips to get his hand on the ball and a favorable bounce.

On the Benford INT he tried to shot put the ball and lost control of it. That was definitely on him, although Benford certainly made a great play on the ball. On the other INT Jordan Phillips put his hand up and then almost a full second passed and then Burrow threw it right into his hand. It wasn't just lucky timing, it's like he thought he could get it over or around his hand and it was a poor judgment on his part. He definitely let his offense down. There was no need to force anything, they were moving the ball at will against us.

I thought he played extremely well. I've seen him play live twice now, and he's incredible. The biggest knock on him is availability, but he's one of the better throwers I've ever seen

The first one was on Burrow for sure. Almost looked like his hand slipped on the ball when releasing it. Second one I agree was largely luck (good or bad luck depending on your perspective).

He also just always sucks the first game of the season for some reason.

He’s won it at least once every year in his career (Mahomes took a bagel last year, Lamar was shut out in 2022 and 2018, Burrow didn’t win in 2020 or so far this year) and has won it at least three times in four different years, including this one (he won it four times in 2020 when they gave the MVP to Aaron Rodgers).

He also just tied Jim Kelly with 18 awards and, except for Rodgers (27) has won it more often than any other active offensive player.  And he’s not even 30.  He’s the only player (offense, defense, or ST) in the top 31 all-time who has played fewer than 10 seasons.  Lamar is #32 with 14 awards.

We are blessed.

Benford probably deserved it, but I said it last year Douglas might’ve regressed a little, but he still came up with some plays last year. I do think we should’ve signed him again not like it would’ve cost much.

Benford had a good game, but the Bills were absolutely shredded overall on defense and it's hard for me to see voters responsible for paying attention to 14-15 games locating the gem in the sea of crap.
