When my son had his first playoff game this year, I cancelled my entire trip to Carolina after I bought flights. That was only the first round....6rounds later, East Aurora won their first ever Class A State Championship. I can tell you right now, that was a MILLION times better than if Bills or Sabres were to evert win the big one.

You ignore social media.  

You watch the rest of the game when your sons game is over, you can rewatch it all on the Amazon stream later.

If you have NFL channel they replay the Thursday night games.

 

And as @RkFast sez, your kid will be gone off to college or wherever befor you know it,but the Bills will still be here and your So will your phone.  It will happen faster than you expect.  Enjoy it while you can.

I missed a game live earlier this season because my grandson (also a Bills fan) got baptized that day and there was a lunch that followed 2 hours from home. He was watching the game on his phone at the lunch, and I never went back to watch it. I would have had a much harder time with that years ago, but I’m much better now.

Tell her you need to drive separate to make a fast getaway after the bball game is over.

But you're really driving separately to go to Wegmans or wherever to get 4 dozen cupcakes.

 

When walk into the bball game with all your cupcakes you announce to the crowd (other kids' parents/siblings and stragglers) that it's your beautiful wife's birthday and we're all gonna sing her happy birthday and eat these cupcakes, then watch the bball game.

 

AS SOON as the bball game ends you hightail it out of there and catch-up during commercials.

 

Everyone is happy, and your wife felt so special you might even get some after the Bills win.

Assuming you are streaming on Amazon there is an option to start from the begining of coverage and skip through commercials. Put yourself in media blackout (no phone), get home, cut through the commercials to catch up.

Go to the basketball game as a family. When the game is over, as a family, tell them you're taking wife and mom out for a birthday dinner. The restaurant of choice just so happens to be a sports bar with the game on in multiple locations. Since you're footing the bill (no pun intended), the family has to stay until the end of the game, because, Josh. If the family can't understand the power of Josh, couples therapy with Beane could be an option.
