This is how it should be.  Toronto is a big enough market for a game every year.   I volunteer the Bills to play one neutral site game there a year

ban-hammer for this guy!!!

And yet, it never actually appeared that way as far as crowd noise went.

During the actual games it was a neutral crowd at best and sometimes even an away crowd as it appeared to draw a good amount of Canadians who just wanted to root against the Bills.

I don’t think any of these guys would be playing for their current teams for free.  It’s all about the money.  Seattle is already tucked in its own corner of the U.S., players on that team have to make flights to the east coast all the time.

Talking from the perspective of logistics and player routines. It isn’t neutral for the Bills.

I might be hesitant to compare a 5 hr flight once a month to a 15 hr flight every other week.

That would be enough for me to never want to play for a team based in Sydney, Hong Kong, Berlin, Tokyo, etc.

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

i have some doubts as to the “huge hit” of global expansion. Maybe the viewership for these games is up because there is literally no competing sports program on TV at 9 am on Sunday morning.

This is probably why there’d need to be a European division.  Then at least six of these teams’ game are in closer proximity.  Then out of their other 11 games, they’d need to travel to the U.S. for 5 to 6, plus any playoff games.

They shouldn’t expand teams and make the numbers all wonky. 32 is perfect as is. Just move the Jaguars to London.

I think it'd be cool if they expanded to 40 teams.

The NFL is popular enough that they could put a franchise anywhere & have success. They could drop a team in El Paso or Omaha & probably sell out every single game, and TV ratings would be high regardless of where the team is. The issue is obviously the amount of revenue that an owner can extract from that market though, so they'd obviously want bigger markets than those.

But still, you could find 4 x European teams to create a new division (if you wanted to go that route to limit travel distances), along with 4 new teams in North America, whether it be 1 in Canada + 1 in Mexico + 2 in the US, or they could just drop 1 new team in each existing division.

Of course, that'd be a huge undertaking & never happen, so I think we'll just get international games for all eternity. Either that, or a team will be relocated at some point.

They are currently renovating the Stadium in Jacksonville in ways that make it a new facility for all intents and purposes. They are going nowhere.

The stadium is a dump.  And for whatever reason they don’t seem like a real NFL team.  Or a real NFL city.  The biggest thing going there every year is the Georgia-Florida game.  And their uniform colors are horrible.

I think I am still bitter from the playoff loss in 96.  Can’t get that image of Jimbo being carted off the field w a concussion.  🥲🙄

It would be an extremely watered down league. Eight extra franchises? That’s approximately 424 more players on rosters. At that demand, practice squad players would have to be starters.

If they want to build an eight team league in Europe and hold an extra playoff spot in each conference for the two teams that emerge with the best record, that might be worth looking into. All of those European teams would have to travel to the US for weeks at a time playing their American counterparts. Or make them all travel at once and get those games out of the way before they head back overseas, I don’t know. Nightmare logistics.

Yeah, but every team in their division is in their timezone (Arizona technically is an hour ahead the last half of the year).

You'd be asking a London team, for example, to sit on a plane longer than the Seattle to Miami flight for every away game.

Not according to an internet search. https://www.mastt.com/blogs/biggest-stadiums-in-the-world

Largest stadium by capacity is Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, India. Capacity = 132,000

# 2 is the one you mentioned Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, Pyongyang, North Korea, capacity = 114,000

My cousin who lived in India worked in the US for 2 years some 20 years back. He liked NFL Football so much, he still follows the league and the best games of the week. Not sure how much that translates to the rest of the population there.

If there is an international team, I would like it to be in London just to blow minds of you and @GunnerBill

Who would you support then?

I dunno...I distinctly remember hearing an audible "Let's Go Dolphins" chant on TV during the first Toronto game, when we were getting thrashed by Miami. It was probably the lowest point for a franchise that has plenty to choose from.

I just don't get how that team would reasonably compete. Tons of players are not going to want to play there away from all their family while dealing with weird exchange rate issues on their salaries, they would be making transatlantic flights constantly, etc.

players would get paid in USD...and plenty of players willing to play there in order to be in NFL.

I'd support the Bills. Easy answer. If the Bills ever moved from Buffalo and there was a London team already in situ then it might become a question.

They screwed the pricing up this year. Removing the season ticket option and then hiking ticket prices. I'd expect some reversion next year. Because I genuinely think they priced themselves out.

The Buffalo Bills.

Picking a team and sticking with it is more ingrained in British sporting culture. You make your bed you better lay in it, my friend.

Booking fees were £40 for a couple of tickets as well.  Priced us out of watching a couple of teams we have little feeling for. Unless they do something to rectify the pricing we’ll only be going to games which our teams are involved in. And that’s just Bills and Cowboys.
