The coaches must have seen something in Shavers over the past 2.5 years to hang on to him and then roster him this season. If he has worked hard to get to this point, major props to him. And he couldn't have timed his breakout game any better. We are desperate for WR help and if by effort or luck Shavers turns out to be a solid role player, I will feel much more positive about the playoffs. 

 

As for Gabe Davis, it looks like the coaches used him in a specific role and didn't ask him to be the deep threat. Which is perfect. The issues in the past stemmed from him being asked to run routes deep and be situationally aware, which imo he struggles to do. If he can be that guy who keeps getting us first downs in the short to intermediate zone, it will be a win for us.

Shavers is ok especially if can fill the M Hollins role I’d be happy with that  but we still need a legit WR1,  and I’m ok with Davis, he works with Josh but for the most part the WR needs to be reworked.

He deserves a deeper look as the season progresses.

I think Davis gave us something yesterday too. I really want him on the 53. In big spots it was very obvious that Josh trusts him. Might be nice to see an old friend out there after all this time.

There was that one poster on here in preseason who called Shavers a total “loser.” Now someone else thinks he could be a HOFer!!!

Gabe can block it too though. Fairly confident he would. Next year is a different story, but knowing this team, and seeing the WR predicament we are in. Hes in great shape to see playing time and meaningful snaps. 

 

Hes not going to find a better place than where hes currently at to rehab his image and show what hes got. Have to imagine Bills have msde it clear to him, and they feel confident hed refuse getting poached!

The coming out party for Shavers was helped tremendously by Keon's benching.  I'm fine with Keon riding the pines until a WR injury forces him back into the lineup.  It will result in more targets to Shavers, which can only be a good thing.  Who knows?  Maybe Keon has played his last down for the Bills?  We can only hope....

I still think if this team is going to rely on Shavers and Gabe to really make this WR core work then this is going to be an issue. But the Bills honestly have no choice but to try to make Gabe Davis work in the Mack Hollins role (minus the ST ace upside) which I think he can do that. I also think the Bills can get some production out of Shavers and even Samuel down the field. The Bills just have to try to be willing to throw downfield even if it isn't optimal and lean into what the team has vs. what it should have.

I will say that Shavers made a tremendous “hands catch” on the Tuddy.  That was impressive; I love to see receivers $natch the ball with their hands rather than have it come into their chests.

 

(hehe…I said $natch)

 

I’d hold off on the Stallworth comparisons for now.
