4th and 1: fake tush push into pass play

In what world would a fake tush push pass play that's not a quick hitter ever work?

 

In a short-yardage situation where the "tush push" is likely, the secondary is never actively focused on coming up to support the run. They won't be "deceived" to crash the LOS because they are not part of the initial defensive push.  

 

So is Brady slow?  Why would he think this is a play that would ever work?

 

The thing that infuriates me is that they had to practice at some point during the year and noone on this staff or even a player questioned it?

Nah, ***** em anyway. The right play is always the push. They have effectively neutered Allen now and he is much less dangerous with his legs than in the past, taking the push away all the time is another hit.

I think this failed play was a huge momentum swing also.  down 7-0 youre starting to drive then you stall on that horrible play where clearly you shouldve ran it then we gave them the ball back at midfield when your defense still hasnt woken up.

This has been a consistent and maddening issue in their losses...Brady trying to get "cute" in critical situations near midfield on short down and distances and it has not worked in ANY of them.  Stop getting cute and just do what you do.

After running a play action fake during the timeout being called.  Finesse game play with finesse effort.  They are a running team.  Why not do what you did vs KC and Carolina?  I put alot of the blame on the coaches and Qb.  Seemed like Allen wanted a 300 yard game and he got it eventually.

Brady is in love with his own brilliance.  There's no amount of objective evidence that will change his brilliant schemes.  To paraphrase Naomi Klein, Brady's scheme cannot fail, it can only be failed

At least they proved yesterday that they can run the end around without fumbling it, granted it went for negative two yards but we retained possession.

 

Too often lately my comments after a play is "WTX was that" ... both on Offense and Defense.

You will notice the Dolphins played it like they knew it was coming. They were a step ahead all day.

The 2 4th and 1 decisions set the tone for the game.

 

On possession 1, keep the ball. You've got Josh Allen. After a 3 and out interception by Tua that was the time to establish, especially on a hot afternoon in Miami.

Punting there allowed Fins to catch their breath and mount a 7-minute drive.

 

The second time is all on the AWFUL play call. If he's going to fake it and roll out, then roll out and take the yard. 

 

I can forgive the turnovers later a bit. Cook was due and Jones made a great play as Cook tried to extend the play,as he always does.

Josh reverted to hero Josh on that tush push, trying to do it all. Move the chains, get a fresh set of downs and go down.

That's called 5d chess my friend- running the play they know you want to run, but expecting them to not expect it, and then hitting them where they expect it anyway. 

 

McD uses timeouts between plays to get no less than 3 steps ahead of the opponent 😏

Somewhat related but probably not thread worthy...

 

I hate when the Bills do tush push on 3rd and 1 (like the Allen fumble play). Vs anyone but the Chiefs it's pretty much automatic and you should be going for it on 4th down from almost anywhere on the field. On third go play action or try to catch the defense off guard and hit something deep. And if you don't get it then you have a cheat code to easily pick it up on 4th down.

They didn't. It was similar, no doubt, in that it was a roll out right but it was a different formation.

Other teams do it and it works.  We suck at trick plays for some reason.

I think, like with a lot of things Brady calls....the idea was ok. The actual design was horrible.

 

Take that same play. Have Josh fake going forward. Then abruptly stop and throw a quick hitter to someone that slipped out on a short pass. The RAC is there if you complete it. But instead, no, let's heave it down field to the 3rd string rookie blocking specialist TE.
