Bills offense -- first in the NFL in yards per game

Kinda hard to believe given that they're 27th in pass attempts! They are fourth in points per game. 

 

They are also 11th in turnover differential (+3) and tied for fifth in fewest giveaways (6). Incidentally, Miami leads the league in turnovers with 15.

That’s great, and does speak to some efficiency, but Yards/game isn’t a great stat to hang your hat upon. Usually doesn’t tell the whole story.

No, it's not perfect, but it is something. Teams that lead the league in yards have historically had excellent offenses. My concern, actually, is that this is the sort of stat that might convince Beane that he doesn't need to add a receiver.

Yea the worry isn't that this stat is misleading - it's not. It is that without the incredible efficiency Brady has generally been able to coax out of this offense with Josh at the helm it struggles. There is no "cheat code" for the days or even the drives when they are less efficient.

I mentioned this under the "Brady is the issue" thread, but it certainly deserves its own. While, yes, it's not the "best" metric, it is still an indicator that this offense is very good, despite what some people think of Brady.

This stat is honestly pretty crazy especially when you consider they’ve gone pretty conservative due to blowouts/running out the game like 3-4 different times now

We had a few big plays against the Chiefs. Two of them went to Kincaid IIRC.  Thats all we really need is to get a few big chunks per game.

And also for as "bad" as we want to say the D has been, they are 12th in YPG at 311.3 and 9th in PPG at 20.9. Easily within Super Bowl winning performance if we could get this against KC in the playoffs.  Chiefs had 304 yards yesterday and would have finished well under 300 if not for a few crazy plays they made.

 

Their D has been better YPG wise than the Vikings, Colts, 49ers, Jags and Eagles.

do was play defense. It’s plain as day. The offense is great. Just stop teams and we are going to win the Super Bowl. That’s why I get so mad. It’s the only thing the HC is responsible for

My bar is so low, that I simply want to be able to stretch the field sideline to sideline.

 

Going into the most winnable SB in Josh's career, our offense is limited to 10yards and inside the hashes. Defenses have about 25% of the field to worry about.

 

Not sustainable in playoffs, versus the Spagz and Fangio s, especially not 2 weeks in a row... or 3-4 weeks.... when refs swallow their flags.

 

PLEASE, GOD, IM ASKING FOR JUST A "COMPETENT" OUTSIDE WR BEFORE DEADLINE. WHY IS THIS IMPOSSIBLE?!?

The turnovers caused by the defense (especially those fumble recoveries) have dried up completely

Two dimensional offense.  Cook and Allen give Buffalo the best running game in the NFL.  Brady and Kromer are multiple in scheme of runs.  Like yesterday.  Like the Chiefs, defenses have to account for it.  That opens up the play-action game. Kincaid is looking like the passing game threat he was drafted to be.  This is not a drop back 35-40 times team anymore.  That is ok.

We should all be uncomfortable with this idea. Sure we'd all love it, id love to eat crow... but this is the equivalent of hoping for a healthy season of Milano.

 

We cannot bank on the defense baling us out in any way in playoffs. 

 

This is saying "im sure Tiger Woods will respect our marriage and not cheat now".

 

"Bobby Brown learned his lesson and surely wont hit his wife anymore"

 

"Diggs won't tweet anything stupid"

 

"Antonio Brown will stay on his meds and act normal"

We can not BANK on the defense completing its responsibility. We need a backup plan, a tangible way to overcome that, should they do what they always do.

If they finally play like a playoff defense, thats obviously welcome. But im not hanging back and banking the best shot at winning in Josh's career, on that happening!!

The offense is going to hold their own and probably considerably more. They ALWAYS do. Which is infuriating. To ask them to be on every drive every game is irresponsible lunacy. All you need is the defense to hold their weight and nobody can beat us. The problem is they never do. Asking your offense to score TDs on every drive and pray for turnovers is not sustainable. Thats when we haven’t won one yet. I’m not comfortable with it at all. I hate it. I wish we just were a normal team and made stops. If we had a slightly above average defense we’d have a ring already.

All while running the same plays repeatedly, sometimes back to back...same thing we saw in the Panther game with the crack toss. Bills ran this counter trey 9 times against the Chiefs with them doing it on back to back plays a few times. This is called "make your life simple" until they stop it.

My point was more about how sometimes bad teams can rack up yards in desperation/garbage time situations.

Yeah it’s how much they need the “perfect” to be great.

 

A missed block for a 2 yard loss on first down? We are less than great. 
 

A procedural penalty for a 2nd and 15? We are less than great.

 

3rd and 10 in an obvious passing situation? We are less than great.

 

We are stylistically so different from

the Niners with Jimmy G, but that’s what this offense reminds me of. When we are rolling and running the ball well and staying on schedule, we are a wagon offensively. 
 

If you can bottle us up a bit and get us behind the sticks, it pays off for the defense.
