The Cowboys aren't making the playoffs so I don't know why they're even making these moves in the first place.

Because he's more interested in winning the new cycle than actual football games.

Always hate trade deadline day. So many moving parts behind the scenes that we don't and will never know.

My best guess is that Beane has some offers out on some players already. However, the players we are in on there is competition for. I'm guessing that the teams that hold those players rights are waiting as late as possible to agree to a move to see if something better comes along.

Even though I'll be "F5ing" all day, I don't expect to hear about any Bills related moves until 3:40-3:55 at the earliest.

You have to see it from the selling team's POV. They have to maximize value, if for no other reason than to sell the move to their fans. They have zero incentive to make any trade until 3:55.

They wanted him to be more than a boundary guy. Had a target for him of 40% of snaps from the slot. So far hasn't worked out. For the same reasons as BTJ Shaheed has taken 40% of his snaps from the slot this year (up from 25%) and been productive. Steve Smith has said that in order to show real #1 receiver qualities BTJ had to show greater versatility this year. Hasn't happened so far.

That's an interesting take from Steve Smith, and he obviously knows a lot more about football than I do.  That being said, we need his skillset, more than what you would call a "#1 WR".  We need a boundary with speed, that can punish defenses, when they choose to over commit.  BTJ doesn't need to be our savior, and we certainly don't need him in the slot.  i understand that the more versatile a WR is, the more dangerous he potentially becomes, but I don't ever remember seeing Randy Moss lining up in the slot.  When your great at 1 thing, that can work too.  He proved that last year.

If we need boundary with speed I'll keep pounding the table for Tre Tucker.

Yup. Absolutely. Unless we knock em away with a Godfather type offer, players that are hotter commodities like the Shaheeds of the world will be held until the last second. Gives a team like the Saints time to call other teams and let them try to top. I would hope the Bills would do the same if they were sellers.

Am I the only thinking we should be looking for a TE?

...maybe a RB?

Possibly QB depth?

Agree. I'm just saying that we need to manage expectations. If I were Beane I would not pay as though we were landing a proven #1 at this point, and frankly I don't think he would for the simple reason that he's not stupid. I'm far from any kind of expert but I suspect that BTJ and Shaheed are closer as talents than most might think. In fact so far this year Shaheed has shown greater versatility. They are both deadly threats to stretch the field. It all comes down to what you are being asked to pay in either case.
From our perspective it is difficult to imagine a shinier object than BTJ. Smith, who knows something about catching a friggin football says that BTJ has more natural ability than  Malik Nabers (if that's even possible) but he thinks Nabers is a better receiver. The reason he gives: Nabers is a dawg and BTJ is not. His maybe not being a dawg is sort of consistent with some of his play this year. It actually takes more than physical ability to be a great WR.
Take it for what it's worth.

I find it hard to believe Buffalo pulls the lever on the Johnson deal without a deal in place.  Buffalo doesn't have leaks.  I feel like the media and “rumor” mill is always days behind Beane and the calls he is making.  Most deals/trades Buffalo make are reported when the trade is sent into the league.

TE depth is a need, but I don't think high on the priority list as other positions. They have Latu on the PS.

We've got Gore Jr. on the PS. No need for RB.

Buchele is on the PS too.

Beane runs a tight ship, but sometimes the other team or the agent will leak.

I like the receiver who plays angry and with emotion, ala Nabors, but with that usually comes a bit of diva (Diggs). BTJ and Coleman don’t play that way, but if they were the quiet producer like Jefferson (or Fitzgerald), no one could say they didn’t have that dawg in them.
