I remember posting two weeks ago the Mc.D was calling plays since the start of  second half of the Atlanta game, He finally admitted it. Some on this board questioned me on it.,

They were noticeably faster. Inserting Hairston, Hoecht and Hancock added so much speed. We just need to find a few more guys whose last names start with “H” to inject.

I'd take a Hutchinson any day for this defense

Oliver was have a good game that was reminding me of the first game when he was on fire….. The he and an O lineman fall on top of his arm awkwardly 🤬

Freaking D can never catch a break. If you have him and Hoecht both in games playing like that , ooof

That’s not what injured him. He reached out with his left arm as the RB was hitting the line. Classic mechanism of injury for a bicep or pec tendon tear. I expect he’s done for the season, maybe a playoff return, but hopefully I’m wrong. They called it a bicep injury, which is worrisome because there’s not much more than a tear that can happen to the bicep. A hyperextended elbow would be a less worrisome injury.

Have the Bengals given up yet? Tee Higgins would look good in a Bills uniform.

Not at his current salary. the salary cap is a real thing people.

Hairston and Hancock bring athleticism we simply did not have in the secondary. They have the potential to completely transform this D.

That's absolutely a TD with Rapp or Poyer.

Hancock even took a bad angle and still got him.

Just my own opinion from watching the game. I liked what I saw out of the bunch of them yesterday. I'll add in I thought the LBers had a very nice game. Both Williams and Shaq were very active. I didn't notice Larry O very much, but as a DT that probably means he was doing his job. Mad Max was impressive. Hoecht was a demon all over the place. Those two in particular really brought some fire that's been lacking. I also think McDermott's more aggressive inputs pumped the guys up. Defensive guys don't want to be passive and sit back. They want to hunt. And after 7 sacks yesterday...the freezer is stocked.

As some have said, it's one thing to look as good as they did against Andy Dalton and the Panthers. Let's see what they can do against Andy and Pat this week.

We can only hope it's not as bad as we think and who ever they put in to take his place can fill in or someone else's can step up their game to off set his loss & who knows they may even find a better combination that works as well or a little better but only time will tell & I hate that Ed got hurt that really sucks !!

I will keep a little hope. But it sounds like a tear. The fact that he was called out right away, because they don’t need a MRI to see the tear. He will probably get a MRI to see extent, and to see if surgery would be required. That would be around a 12 week minimum recovery. It will probably be, he maybe can come back for the playoffs.

I tried to tell people this was going to be a work on progress thru much of the season exactly for this reason. All we need is for them to peak during the right time. We don't need for them to be amazing all year long

Playoffs are NOT a given. Even winning the division is not. Sure, the ideal is to peak come postseason, the other 31 teams are not going to lay down and pave the way!

Anyway, Hoecht was fun to watch. On the O side, Hawe still blocks so well, and shoutout to Gilliam. I thought he was not useful besides special teams, but this year, when he is in there with #85, they and the OLine run block so well.

Agreed. But there are options.

If we can dump Samuels salary, and do a restructure or two (Knox, etc), we can get some room.

I wanted that rags to riches story for Shavers. He showed little sparks last season with limited snaps. But it seems like he is missing some awareness out there currently. Maybe after some more experience.

Also play Coleman as a slot, he will thrive there. He’s not on outside guy. I would give Shakir more outside shots. He has that IT factor. Hoping Palmer can come back soon and continue the connection with Josh. He can separate and is a smooth route runner.

I wanted Metcalf in the offseason. Would have been a great move for the Bills. I feel, Bills need to be aggressive and go get a game changer.

Now:

1. Olave

2. Shaheed

3. Wilson

4. Meyers - less exciting

5. Waddle - sure, but is Miami’s owner that dumb to allow that?

playing Andy dalton didn’t hurt either. Yes we infused some talent but it’s also one of the less threatening qb/rb pairs we have faced and no dominant wr.

I agree on Dalton, but Carolina has one of the best running backs in the league. I think he still averaged over 5 yards a carry against Buffalo, but they were able to take them out of the run very quickly.

Agree, but unsure how much of it was due to playing a weak offense.  Next week will tell us a lot.

100%, But McD was calling plays.  This I believe is not being discussed enough.  I don't believe the "They were sharing play calling" bull####.  Will be very curious if he is calling again next week and if the trend continues.

Bills have the 2nd highest chance in the AFC to make the playoffs at 86%. Colts are highest at 96%. Bills are higher than the Pats at 84%.  I know the Doom and Gloom is cool, but let's stop pretending this team is going to miss the playoffs. A lot of these so called "great" teams we are competing with will start fading by the end of this month as usually happens.

I've thought all along that the Bills had the pieces to be a lot better on D and that it was the way those pieces were being used and how the game was being called by Babich that was more of the issue. I mean let's be real, we see teams with average players on D and great coaching put up very good performances, like the 49ers did against the Falcons when half their D was out and their guys were all over the place making plays.

I have a hard time calling chuba or dowdle one of the best. You get to tenth and you are talking slightly above average and i think we get pretty close to that before any debate.

Hairston’s first NFL tackle took a guy out of the game. Thought he looked pretty sticky in coverage but need a closer look at all-22.

I don’t know why, but I’ve just got a feeling — and I think a lot of Bills fans have this feeling —that Jordan Hancock is going to be something. Thought it was very interesting that they had him in for Poyer on obvious passing downs.

I have been saying this since the first preseason game watching Hancock.  The kid looks like an NFL safety.  He can move, read plays and tackle.  He started for the Buckeyes last year on their Nat Championship team.  That means you have talent!!  Of course talent has to be developed at the pro level.  But you have a lot to work with there.  Just like Dione Walker.  The kid just needs to play.  Him and Bishop will hopefully turn into a strong duo on the back end.  With Poyer doing some mentoring.  I like that group.  And with Hairston getting some reps at CB, things are looking up in the secondary.  Not sure what is going on with Benford.  But he looks a step slow this year.  Not horrible.  Just not playing nearly as aggressive as the past few years.

But the real problem and liability in the secondary is Taron Johnson.  He just can not keep up anymore.  Teams are going to target him going forward.  Thats what defensive coaches do.  They target the weak link.  I think our only other option at nickel would be Cam Lewis.  Although I don't know if he is any better in coverage.  He is a pretty solid tackler though.  Anyone else has some thoughts on that?  Do we have someone on the PS that can play nickel?

And then there is McDermott staying too loyal to "his guys".

But a great defensive effort overall yesterday.  Great to see.

Hoecht looked like a stud! Strong dude and he takes the correct angle every time. He had multiple QB "in your face" moments which disrupted Daltons throw.

Max - wow. he was all over his man - every time! Like velcro. He is fast! Also loved how he was waving his arms after plays he made. very cocky! I love that.

Larry O - Ok, he is a big dude. He commanded doubles a few times which allowed the line to penetrate. Want to see all 22 on that.

Eddy O - I agree with above... out for season. Phillips looked good actually.

This Wande Owens on the PS intrigues me.  Yale grad, 5-10 210 - a bigger DB that could help in run support, explosive athletically, 43" vertical 11'3" broad jump 9.59 RAS.  Suspect having gone to Yale he probably gets schemes etc pretty well.

Bishop overplayed the run so badly that he was completely OUT of position.
