I'm surprised the league hasn't had a word with him about that.

Anything goes on the sideline but bringing caps on the field should be a nogo, imo.

A couple years ago we got passes to go down on the field after the Dolphins game and I couldn't believe how many smelling salt packets were all over the field.  I Assumed it was from staff coming out during breaks in play - didnt realize you could do it during play.

At least 2 or 3 times today when they showed a close up on Cook before a play he was sniffing smelling salts. Every time he did it, he ran the ball. In a league where everything is studied and any tells can been dissected and planned against this, could be an issue going forward? Any one else notice this?

Everyone knew we were going to run the ball. It didn't matter, he was averaging 10 yards/

Can’t find the source but I remember seeing a couple weeks ago that the bills run it ~80% of the time when Josh is under center and pass it ~80% of the time when he’s in shotgun which is a huge tell. I also don’t the percentage but I’m sure having multiple tight ends on the field is also a big tell. I think Brady’s philosophy in the run game is “we don’t care if you know we’re gonna run it you’re still getting bulldozed”.

yup.

also under center Josh even does the hand signal for which way to run often.

it’s been fine in the run game but I sure would like the defense even a little worried about it in passing plays. We just need every bit we can on that side

I think he's talking about the actual use on the field of play

Smelling salt have been used for a hundred years lol but typically they were used on the sidelines James Cook is doing it on the field which is why Simon is bringing up the gray area

oh it was, apparently mistakenly, reported they were fully banned. I’ve seen plenty of social posts about suspending cook etc…. Because announcers and writers did not well clarify the change in rule.

I would bet many if not most here think it’s a full ban

I believe it was banned for smelling salts to be issued by the team

If a player brings their own supply it's legal

Here's another tell, they run the ball under center like 80% of the time, and pass out of the gun 80%.

Yep. They need to make this less obvious.

It'd also be nice to get Cook a little more involved in the passing game or just keep him in on passing downs, if only to make it less obvious it's going to be a run play.

We have many tells. It doesn’t matter when things are do it right. They could announce that Cook is about to run on the stadium speakers, and he will still beat you.

200+ yards we’ve n when the Defense knew it was coming.

Which might be fine.  We'd have to know how those rates differ among the great offenses in the league (e.g. Colts) to know whether we could optimize better.  I pretty much guarantee no team is 50/50 run/pass out of shotgun, for example.   20% might be the right number to keep defenses honest.

It reminds me of poker.  Staying balanced doesn't mean you bluff half the time.  You just have to bluff enough that your opponents know you are capable of bluffing in that situation, and sometimes they call you down when you have the goods.

We were more disguised and even out of shotty and under center vs Carolina.  Some obvious 3rd and longs had us less than like 50/50 in terms of disguise, but it was better than before.

Carolina seemed to have their d set up to not get torched by okay action passes.  How many times did Josh take the hand off, turns round and see sweet eff all open?  Cook coulda run for another 100 if they kept at it in the 4th, so it's a problem now.

Kinkaide being banged up and only playing 14 snaps was our biggest issue IMO.  He's our best pass option, followed by shakir.  With even mid level Palmer hurt the rest of the wr corps are just terrible.

I remember a really well called TD drive that had us hit a quick slant to Coleman on the right side in one on one coverage.  He got the 1st but he like lunge stepped to get the ball which took him out of stride and got tackled immediately.  A good wr woulda been smoother and changed direction and maybe had a huge gainer.
