Allen2Moulds Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I don't know if this particular thing has been discussed, at least not very much, but I feel like our pass pro has taken a huge step back this year. Jerry Ostroski was on WGR recently, and was asked about the offense's early struggles, he mentioned potential complacency with both Brady and the oline as at least one of the things. Our season ended last year, because our oline had no clue who to pick up on a blitz. If I'm not mistaken, I believe KC only sent one extra guy, but it confused us so badly, that there were 3 guys running free at the QB, and there were multiple olineman standing around blocking no one. I saw a similar thing happen against Atlanta Sunday. Another thing, was a great point a caller made on Monday. He said, we like to operate a lot out of condensed formations. In doing this, you bring a ton of guys into the box, and invite a lot more exotic blitzes. When you line up in a spread formation, it's much harder for a defense to disguise their blitzes, and in turn a lot easier to diagnose where the blitz is coming from. In my opinion, Josh is at his best, when we are spreading it out, and allowing him to do that. How often do you see KC get fooled this badly? When they lose, it's because their lineman lost the rep, not because they're lost and confused. I know Josh has to a better job with his pre-nap reads, to properly adjust the protection, but post snap there should also be a better plan by the oline. 4 1 Quote

Earlier this week I was scrolling social media and saw a clip of Brady talking about the Super Bowl he won with Tampa. I stopped and listened. He said he studied the Chiefs defense closely and by the night before the game he knew Spags' defense and blitz schemes better than the KC players. He knew where the players were coming from, he knew when they would fake it and drop back into coverage, etc.. Brady said that was his "super power" and before every snap he had the answers to the test and knew exactly where the ball was going. I guess my point is, we are not that advanced here. I don't think the coaching this season has been anything close to good...and it's not even up to standards from recent seasons (which also was not good enough vs KC in the playoffs). 2 1 Quote
RoscoeParrish Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago What’s very funny is that Beane was getting GLOWING remarks about re-signing his defensive core early this offseason. lots of season to go left but the returns have been less than ideal. 2 Quote

Timmy writes a good article now and then, but he also has always had a penchant for being negative. 1 Quote
colin Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago the thing that stands out the most to me, both from the above article and from a post made in the is brady the problem thread (where the poster showed josh's numbers from last year's 3-2 first 5 games vs our now 4-2 six games, short story josh is slightly more productive per game now), losing the turnover battle is what has murdered us. we sucked badly last year on D, didn't stop 3rd downs, but got a ton of turnovers, and we never turned it over on O. as much as everything sucks now, that's basically why we are 4-2 and not 5-1 or 6-0. i think the read through is that we just have to not turn the over on O, and not need them on D. the easiest fix to this, imo, is to not be an open book with our offensive play calls, and similarly on D to not just line up in our standard sets until we get crushed by easy to execute plays and then adjust. i think we need to be simpler (do what works, less over creativity) and be a little less arrogant (actually make the d guess what we are doing instead of telling them ahead of time with our tendencies). Josh is currently the new Dan Marino. And even Marino played in a SB. No guarantees, but time to try something different. Honestly, love the Bills but I don’t enjoy watching them play at least half of the time anymore. 2 Quote
