This has always been the most likely outcome barring a Herschel Walker type offer

Eh, what is he going to say? I don’t believe a word that comes out of these guys mouths.

Although he has all the talent in the world I'm not sure that BTJ has the makings of a true #1 receiver. He was force fed the ball last year because he was pretty much all they had. He lined up about 75% of the time outside last year. This year they wanted to leverage his speed, quickness and separation ability by lining him up in the slot at least 40% of the time, like a true #1 actually. It hasn't worked out so far.
It's possible that BJTs true value is more like a high end #2. Having said that I'd be prepared to roll the dice by offering a first, though I feel this is an overpay all things considered. Then I would line him up the vast majority of the time outside the way the Jags did last year and let him run mostly push routes.
My preference though would be to send a third and change to the Saints for Shaheed.

I don’t think Shaheed as a one year rental is worth a 3rd tbh.  I’d really like to trade for him, but that’s steep for a guy like him imo.

You get to know him well and what he could do for you. You can offer him a contract if you think he's the real deal, even before he hits FA. If you dont do something you are dead meat this year imo. Shaheed is a dual threat, all pro returner and though relatively young he's an experienced vet. Maybe better than putting your hopes on next years draft-which is not without risk.

At this point I’d use a third to keep us in the running this year.

Calvin Ridley is the most likely available guy

Sure. He can flat out play and while he's nursing a hammy right now he has been a durable player. Haven’t checked out the cap implications though.

This would make even more sense if they could get Calvin Ridley and Jeffrey Simmons in the same deal. One-stop shopping would be great, especially with Ed’s injury.

If that’s what it takes, so be it.  I agree that we need to make a move for a WR.  I was just to get better value

A caller to postgame made the correct statement last night… essentially “we need to overpay bc of Beane’s mismanagement of the roster”

It is what it is.

Shaheed as a rental is obviously not worth a 3.  But if he’s one of only a couple outside receivers available, beggars can’t be choosers.

Demand is high and supply is low so teams have to pay more at the deadline. That's why it's stupid that it ever got to this point.

Case in point. Raiders wanting a day 2 pick for someone to get 8 games of Meyers. A guy that's gonna likely be a FA anyway. No thanks.

they aren't moving Simmons unless we offer something like 1st, 2nd, 3rd for both IMO

i honestly don't even think a burner at WR would move the needle much for this offense. Brady can't even get Curtis Samuel involved. He may not be an elite WR but he at least has a record of being a solid player. I don't think pushing the ball down field is something Brady wants to do unless we absolutely have to.

if we can't do any better, I'd take him for a 3rd maybe they have a DT or S to help us too?

And they know if they wait until the actual deadline (a week from Wednesday), some team will panic and give them what they want. Meyers is the only WR that we know for a fact is on the block, and at least three teams want to make an addition at the position. The price will be sky high.

IF we trade for a WR it'll most likely be for Rasheed Shaheed and for multiple reasons here's why...

1. Saints are 1-7 which means they're not making the playoffs which makes them sellers at the trade deadline November 4th, and a realistic trade partner.

2. Salary Cap wise, we can afford Shaheed. The Bills currently have $2.54 million in salary cap space. As of Week 8, a team trading for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed would take on a prorated cap hit of approximately $2.22 million for the remainder of the year which we can afford.

3. Trading for Shaheed opens up an additional roster spot since he has experience as a WR, KR, and PR. Bills currently have 1 open roster spot. Ed Oliver is expected to go on IR which will open another roster spot which will be used on his replacement. Curtis Samuel and Brandon Codrington are the primary KR and both are tied for the 5th best in the NFL with an average of 27 yards per KR, however Codrington is averaging a paltry 5.8 yards per Punt Return which ranks as the 5th worst in the NFL amongst all Punt Returners, and dead last amongst all PR with 10+ Punt Returns. Shaheed currently ranks as the 9th best PR with an average of 13.3 yards per Punt Return. Shaheed has a history of being an elite returner, earning All-Pro honors as a punt returner in 2023. Shaheed is an upgrade to Codrington as the primary PR and backup KR to Samuel, and an upgrade to our outside WR's. Another benefit of trading for Shaheed is McD has the option to not dress Samuel on gamedays in favor of someone else with Shaheed as the primary KR instead of Samuel. By trading for Shaheed and releasing Codrington, kills up to 3 birds with 1 stone.

Shaheed is a free agent after this season. I'd offer the Saints a 5th round pick but will go as high a 4th.

BTJ is really starting to seem like a guy that needs a change of scenery…jags might want to cut and run while he’s still got value.  Probably won’t happen but I wouldn’t be surprised

They did this with a CB drafted really high, traded him to Carolina, maybe 3 years back?

After checking CJ Henderson (9th overall, 2020), was traded ~ week 3 of the following season:

"Henderson was traded to the Carolina Panthers with a 2022 fifth-round pick in exchange for tight end Dan Arnold and a 2022 third-round pick"

Im not sure how much there is to draw on that, other than their is precedence
