I wonder to what extent they are coached to make a play on the ball, cuz it seems like even when guys are in position they are thinking "tackle" and not "attack the ball". McDermott always likes the players to keep the play in front of them, so I do think there's something being coached in that regard. But this year our secondary is so slow it's kind of a non-starter since they're nowhere near the play anyway. That's exactly it we don't attack the ball at all. This whole defense is keep everything in front of you and tackle. Funny thing is this year especially were horrible at tackling. Quote

They have also faced the 3rd or 4th least amount of passes in the NFL this season. Fair enough, he says his source is TruMedia. I usually use TeamRankings.com. On there they show Rousseau with 2 passes defensed on the year and no other Bills player with any (hasn't been updated to include Epenesa's from yesterday). Off the top of my head I can't think of any legit pass breakups from the secondary. Certainly not 11. So I'd like to know how that stat is being charted by different sources. Quote

gobills404 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) As others have pointed the Bills have 11 pass breakups. It’s also worth noting that the Bills defense has faced the second fewest pass attempts per game in the league. Hard to get pass breakups when the other teams not throwing it. Hancock takes some reps at S and NCB? Can the next few years' secondary look like Hairston and Strong at outside CB, Hancock at NCB with Bishop and Benford at S. Would seemingly get our best athletes out there and offer greater speed and size than what we have now. Tre, Taron Johnson and Rapp from a speed standpoint are very pedestrian at this point. And I believe the 5 younger names mentioned are best combination of coverage and tacklers in the Secondary of all players on roster currently. This combo might not be the complete solution but it is the kind of creative thinking needed from the coaches. This personnel group and more man-to-man physical coverage play on the back end in combination with the full d line group later in the season could be what's needed to get past the Chiefs and win the SB. Erik is rock solid, perhaps he means like a DB deflecting the ball and not a collision/impact breakup or DL deflection? Pro Football Reference also has us with 11 PBUs. No one on the defense has more than 2 PBUs, maybe that is what he meant. Edited 1 hour ago by TheyCallMeAndy Quote
rjbbills Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago You have to remember we are playing with two less defensive players. No Safeties. I've seen it every game where our Safeties are so far back, slow, reactive vs proactive. The opponents players are catching the ball then these guys decide to take an action on the play. I'm sure their being told to play this way. Quote
Not at the table Karlos Posted 17 minutes ago Posted 17 minutes ago They miss John Butler. He’s still cranking out good passing defenses in college. Quote

Next get as far away from them as possible while still remaining on the field. When the QB throws rhe ball don't break on the route until the receiver catches the ball. Lastly, make sure to attempt the worst tackling technique as possible and make sure to take bad angles and miss. Allowing max YAC is best. Remember this is very complicated. bonus if you crush a teammate Quote
