Likely going to keep the house in Dunkirk (currently living in St George Utah) as a home base in the states.

we’re still in the planning/research phase.  We’re going to SE Asia for approx 6 months.  Likely 3 months in Thailand (Bangkok, Hua Hinn and Pattaya one month each), 1 month in DaNang Vietnam, 1 month in Canggu, Bali and 1 month in Malaysia, likely Langkawi and George Town.

Then head back to the states for a few months before going to Italy for 6 months.  Looking into cefalu, Tropeo, the amalfi coast and around Puglia.  Back to states for a bit then eastern Mexico (if it seems safe at the time) and Costa Rica.  Hopefully we’ll have some favorite cities by then  and will travel between them for 6 months to a year at a time.

my wife and I (51 and 46) don’t have children and are in a solid spot financially.  We’ve been taking care of my mother for the last 3 years and it’s really made vacations and getting out to see the world difficult.  So we decided to see it all when we are able.  That’s the plan anyway

word of advice from someone who worked in SE Asia for a decade, don’t bother with Pattaya. There’s nothing redeeming about the place at all, especially as you’re married. Try Phuket/pi pi island or Samui/Ko Phangyan instead. Bangkok is great though, and Malaysia has very friendly people although can feel a little boring after you’ve been in Thailand. Have a great time!

Thanks for the advice.  Yeah, I’ve heard that about pattaya.  We’ve been talking about scratching it off the list and instead going to Koh Sanyo’s.  Phuket seems like a vacation destination, which could be good for a month at a time

I haven't been there yet but it's on my Phuket list :bag:

(and before anybody dresses me down, yes I know how it's pronounced; but this joke does work in text) (sorta:-)

I love Phuket and Ko Samiu was the first island I visited in Thailand so always has a special place in my heart.

If you get a chance I’d also recommend a hop over to the Philippines and in particular Boracay, it’s not the most convenient flight but the beach there is fantastic, although it’s 15 years since I was there so hopefully it’s not been spoilt now. It was a great place to get my American food fix as they love American culture there (as do I) 🇺🇸

Thanks- yes, Boracuy is definitely in the discussion.  It’s become very popular for expats

I’m not going to judge anyone in this situation, but this is exactly why I’m far more passive than I used to be. I’d never escalate any disagreement, because people are so soft, anyone could take the smallest issue to the next level.

Completely disagree... I've had dozens upon dozens of good times after midnight when alcohol was involved. I'm sure many others here could say the same.

Yeah, same here, many of the greatest blurry memories of my life. That rule only applies when dealing with undesirables who can’t hold their liquor.

This is why I advise leaving your road rage at home. You never know when the other guy is having a bad day and will be quick to reach for their gun. It’s not worth the mini-rant if you consider the worst case scenario.

Josh was just interviewed by Sanchez this week also on his Fox show.

Hope both men are okay. Nothing good ever happens at a bar with too much alcohol in most cases.

I have been going to bars abroad for 15+ years in Europe and Asia and can honestly say I’ve never witnessed a bar fight. Sadly, violence in public venues seems to be a distinctly American phenomenon, at least among wealthy developed countries.

Depends upon the bar or pub, right?

Does "***** you, I'm Millwall" ring a bell?  "Football hooliganism" is kind of axiomatic

Brits drinking (or doing "snacks") and fighting is has kind of become a byword for British behavior abroad.  For example  "British Street" (Calla Gerona) in Benidorm, Spain

From Fox59 of Indiana:

“We can now report what is stated in the police narrative from last night’s stabbing involving former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez.

According to the police narrative we received from sources Sanchez  was not cooperative with police when they first arrived on scene.

Another man listed as the victim in the police report told police he was delivering food when Sanchez told him he needed to move and couldn’t park where he was.

That man told police Sanchez started threatening and following him and then attacked him.

The man said he first tried to pepper spray Sanchez but it didn’t work. He said it was at that that time he defended himself with a knife. Police noted the man had a significant injury to his face.

Sanchez was taken to the hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery. @FOX59

It is important to note that Sanchez has not been interviewed yet!!!!”
