Let’s grade the game

[Italian Bills]

After another very expected (but not easy) win, let’s say what you think about at what level the Bills (players and coaches) played.

 

Offense:

- QB (b+)

- RB (a)

- OL (d)

_ OC (b)

 

Defense:

- DL (c)

- SECONDARY (b)

- DC (c)

 

Overall:

- Bills (b-)

- McD (b)

QB - B+

RB - A+

OL - C-

- QB (A-) -- 72% completion, 3 TDs, big runs

- RB (A) -- 100 yards and a TD

- OL (C) -- Pass blocking gave up B2B sacks

_ OC (C) -- Still don't like 4th down call

 

Defense:

- DL (C-) -- too many yards rushing allowed 

- SECONDARY (B) -- Bishop's play was enormous

- DC (C) -- Rattler rattled -- No plan for the running QB

 

Special Teams on Offense:

PR (C) -- Nothing Special -- let Bills get pinned in deep by failing to catch ball

KR (C) -- Nothing Special -- Samuel not better or worse than Codrington

K (A) -- 4/4 XPs and 1/1 FG

P (C) -- Nothing Special -- Not better than the punter we let go.  Poor punting distance 

 

Special Teams on Defense:

PR (C) -- Held my breath a few times.  Got the punter killed on B2B weeks.

KR (C) -- Nothing special.

 

Overall:

- Bills (B) -- I never believed the vegas line.  Figured Saints were playing for their season

- McD (B) -- Nothing stood out to me.  Thought his TOs at the end of the half were unnecessary.  Bills were not playing well in 2nd Qtr to want another drive.

Bills looked unfocused and undisciplined but at the end of the day Josh Allen just did Josh Allen things when they needed it.

Against a top 5 team, this would have been a convincing loss.   If this was played in New Orleans, not sure it comes out as it did.  

 

I enjoy a win as much as anyone who suffered for 20 years, but unless Hoecht, Obunjobi, Milano, Ed and Max get and stay active, I don't see IT this year either.   

 

Do you think this team can compete with Philly?    I don't.   We'll find out in December.

I don't think our D is playing at a level that can take on any of the top contenders in the playoiffs. Hope they get it together in the 2nd half of the season, but I'm seeing to much of the same crap we see evey year.. bend don't break BS

I don't think we are having bend but don't break issues. This defense is just flat out getting gashed at every level. The front 7 has just been bad despite the individual brightspots.

This, we are getting to a point where McD may have to, and probably should, take over the defense again. You don't get unlimited bites at the apple, and we have one this year, again. We can't waste it. I suspect it will either be just before the KC game as not to blow the opportunity, or just after the KC game if we lose.

I feel kinda bad for Brady tbh haha. I thought that 4th down call was pretty clever but they botched the execution and that’s all anyone is gonna remember 😂

Bills seem to very frequently botch the trick play calls!

 

However, the Bishop int, absolutely destroyed what looked like was going to be a perfectly executed trick play call.

If wouldn’t have even really looked like a trick play if Van Demark didn’t trip I don’t think haha we made that play look infinitely more difficult than it shoulda been 😂

Oh, It was clearly obvious Van Denmark was worried about the drones. He is in no way a capable backup for Spencer! Maybe as a backup guard, in a pinch.

That seems harsh.  I have seen David Edwards throwing people around in the first half.  A couple of bad plays from vandermark but nothing bad.

It was too clever. Put in a jumbo package that includes Anderson and Hawes and make like a Buffalo snowplow in January. 
The play depended too much on a part-time right tackle to pull and execute. 
Had the Bills lost that game, that play would’ve been one they looked at as a contributing factor.

Yea I think there was a bit of ‘make other teams in the future have to prepare for this play’ type thinking involved there…not saying you’re wrong just that it probably should’ve worked.  Van demark is usually a pretty solid depth olinemen it’s not like they were running that play with some chump which seems to be how some people talk about it 😂
