The Bills defense had an OK game on paper. But there were a half-dozen times when they had a chance to put the nail in the coffin, but just couldn't make a play to kill the drive. I'm not someone who studies the All-22 Coaches Film or advanced metrics websites. I rely on my own eyes and experience of watching the NFL for 35+ years. My personal unscientific definition of "pressure" is by counting 1-2, and whether or not the D-Line is able to either reach the QB or force him off his spot. Even though Tua was getting the ball out quick most of the game, there were plenty of 3rd Downs where he was able to hold the ball longer than 2 seconds. That's not good enough from the pass rush. The Bills seem to get nice individual performances here and there, but not consistently strong play from the unit as a whole. Joey Bosa has looked really good so far. But Groot, AJ Epenesa and the other edge rushers have been totally invisible. Ed Oliver was amazing Week 1. But he's been hurt the last two games, and we haven't gotten much from anyone else. They showed three of the 3rd and longs on ESPN today that were all guys in position but just not making the play. Tre whiffs on corner blitz, DL surrounds Tua but doesn't bring him down, Bernard whiffs on Hill who caught it 4 yds short but just made a move and left him in the dust to get the 1st Quote
Sestak4ever Posted September 19 Posted September 19 A few issues that I saw that bothered me. We made a patchwork offensive line look very good. I know Tua threw a lot of quick passes, but we never got in his face. Third and long multiple times and they kept converting. On offense, especially in the second half when Miami would stack the line with 6 or 7 players was an ideal time for play action. We never did it. Not sure if that was Brady’s calls or Josh’s. That would have put them on their heels and kept them guessing. Again, in the second half, had series where we weren’t driving the ball downfield. Too many 3 and outs. Just glad we won. Go Bills!!🏈🍻 Quote

Bills started out strong on offense and then the Dolphins went back and pulled out the Colts WC tape and made Allen be patient throwing underneath. I’ll chalk it up to it being a Thursday game and we’re 3-0 I don't equate almost tying us to being "on the ropes" . Bills would have still had the ball with time left to drive for the winning FG or TD. On the ropes is what we were in week 1 with 6 min left in the game. But its all just semantics any way, so go Bills! 4 minutes ago, Sestak4ever said: A few issues that I saw that bothered me. We made a patchwork offensive line look very good. They had all the momentum in the game not when Bernard made the INT Quote

I still wouldn't call that "on the ropes" either due to the time left but I definitely see your perspective more clearly now. Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 The only annoying thing was our refusal to attack their secondary. Really thought we'd air it out against them much more 2 Quote

I mean on one hand it's nice to have expectations but oh yes I remember in the drought there was a time I would have given a kidney to open 3-0, be 2-0 in the division and beat the Phins by 10. Not *my* kidney, but there's no sense in letting perfectly good kidneys go to waste 4 Quote

As someone pointed out above, Tua did some uncharacteristic things on a few of those 3rd downs where he got out of the pocket/scrambled and extended the play and that led a few first downs out of those 3rds. Yes our third down D needs to be better, and pass rush needs to get home. BUT my point does remain, Tua was held to under 150 yards and half of his 22 completions were at or behind the LOS. That will make the pass rush less effective. The main job of a Defensive Coordinator is matching the pass rush to the coverage, and then adjusting it to stop what the Offense is doing. If the QB is getting rid of the ball very quickly, then a Defense must adjust. Have the corners play more press-man coverage. Have the D-Line focus more on batting and tipping passes. Maybe even try anticipating and jumping routes. Quote

ST were outplayed (other than biggest play of game), roughing. Dolphins have some talent and played desperate. Quote
TheFunPolice Posted September 19 Posted September 19 did anyone mention the strange 1st half kneel down? When I saw it live it seemed odd but the replay looks even worse. Of course, the whistle blew, so it's moot, but that is something to clean up. Could have been a terrible botch. Quote
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Apparently Stevie was at the game because he's on a flight to Cali and is seated next to my sister. Who apparently first bumped Fitz last week too. ... How Quote

BillsFan130 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) I thought the defence played pretty bad when watching live, but the stats are actually pretty damn good.. 1. 21 points to Miami. I'll take that any time 2. 275 yards given up . Holding a team to under 300 in the nfl is hard to do 3. 1 turnover. I think the big stat that made it seem a lot worse than it was, is the 3rd down defence. (10/15 which is unacceptable) Edited September 19 by BillsFan130 Quote
